Great read! Love the whole coroner and csi kind of thing. The story was a slow build but i enjoyed it. The ending was a bit predictable but really good.
I’ve been wanting to read the Stalking Jack the Ripper (SJtR) series for a while, but $8 for an eBook is more than a little expensive (yes, I said it). But, I finally bit the bullet the other day and bought it.
SJtR was a good story, and well polished. I didn’t find any errors as I was reading, and I enjoyed it, even though it was a bit on the obvious side. I also found it odd that there were, in some ways, two endings to SJtR. There was the ending to this book’s storyline, then the ending to the book itself that set up book 2.
The first ending came as no surprise. Ms. Maniscalco left us enough hints throughout to figure out the big reveal despite her attempts to mislead us. I will say, however, that the Ripper’s complete personality change during that ending seemed out of place. We’re given no reason for its occurrence, and people don’t just change personalities at the drop of a hat. I would have liked some explanation for it.
The second ending is lighthearted. It comes across as a “pick-me-up” after the intensity of the first ending. I like the changes in relationships that it promises, and look forward to seeing what happens in book 2.
The attraction between Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell was well written, although perhaps a bit more disregarding of Victorian mores than it should have been. Still, there’s a delicious tension between them that I kept expecting to ignite into something more. Granted, it is a young adult book, so I shouldn’t really have expected much in that direction.
I did, however, greatly appreciate the author’s note at the end regarding the historical and creative liberties taken. It’s always nice to have a glimpse into an author’s mind. The author’s note gives some great explanations and backgrounds to various elements of the story.
Ultimately, while I certainly recommend the story, I’d suggest you check it out at your local library if at all possible. At only 352 pages, I don’t feel the eBook is worth $8. Without the recurring productions costs you have with a printed book, this eBook is significantly overpriced.
I absolutely loved reading this book! I’m sure I’ll be reading it again in the future. It portrays a young woman in Victorian London breaking down gender barriers and pursuing her dream of becoming a medical examiner. This story is packed with science, police procedures, family drama, and a little romance. And one of my favorite things is the witty bantering and flirting between our two main characters. Audrey Rose is one of my new favorite characters! Definitely worth reading!
I started this for fun and didn’t go to sleep until I’d finished the sequel! I love Audrey Rose and Thomas’s relationship. Thomas reminds me of Sherlock, but Audrey Rose gets him to let down his guard to the arrogance isn’t constant. I didn’t predict at all who “jack” was. Brilliant read. I can’t wait to get my hands on the third one!
This book was amazing, and it had me on the edge of my seat since day one.
This book was really different, it’s based on the infamous Jack the Ripper, his crimes are a big mystery since the true identity of Jack was never be discovered.
This was an interesting read because the heroin Audrey Rose was a young strong woman who really had a passion for forensic, she was more comfortable practicing autopsies on dead people than between the living. She was completely obsessed with the idea of finding the assassin and bring him to justice, therefore she was like a freak between the women of the nineteen century.
On the other hand the story was predictable in my humble opinion and the romance was weird in this story full of death and corpses, so sadly I didn’t like this book as much as I expected, especially because I disliked the end of it.
Great twist on the Jack The Ripper story line. Loved the historical accuracy and appreciated the characters. Another series I’m looking forward to continuing.
A lady forensic scientist was actually probably unheard of in 1888 London, but in fiction, all things are possible. This tale takes us through the complex crimes of Jack the Ripper from an entirely new point of view and I think it works. Audrey Rose Wadsworth is most definitely not a typical Victorian lady and I like that the book acknowledges that and uses it as she struggles to be “proper” when her aunt is around. But her fascination for science (an unladylike pursuit) and not just any science but forensics makes her a world apart from her peers.
I won’t go into the story here, read the book. You will most likely see several possibilities as you read along, you might even guess the outcome….or not…how it all plays out is the fun bit. I liked it enough to get the second book in the adventures of Audrey Rose — Hunting Count Dracula. So far so good there too.
A new twist on the tale
“Fear is a hungry beast. The more you feed it, the more it grows.”
Audrey Rose Wadsworth is not a girl of convention. Rather than spending her days drinking tea and looking for a proper husband, Audrey Rose dons an apron and joins her uncle in his laboratory learning all she can about forensic medicine. A woman in the medical field is frowned upon, but Audrey Rose refuses to give up, and is encouraged by her uncle’s star pupil, Thomas Cresswell. But the streets of London are now the killing grounds for a serial killer calling himself Jack the Ripper. As clues unfold, Audrey Rose and Thomas are led on a gruesome chase to catch the killer…a killer that is leaving bodies pointing to a guilty party a little too close to home.
Stalking Jack the Ripper was an impulse buy for me. Was browsing the shelves at my local bookstore and the cover caught my eye. The story was engaging and the characters reminded me of Sherlock Holmes (Cresswell) and Dr. Watson (Wadsworth). Highly recommend and look forward to the next installment!

Review:
I was surprised by this book. I wasn’t sure if I’d like it since it’s young adult and historical but I did. This book was very captivating and it held by attention. I wasn’t bothered by the fact that it was ya and there was no smut because it fit the time they were in and there was enough going on that was interesting.
What is this book about:
This book is about a girl names Audry Rose. She is 17 years old and is quite the modern lady for someone that lives in the 1800. She is beautiful, but also very clever and smart. She doesn’t want to be chained to what society deems good enough for a woman. She is an apprentice for her uncle and helps do autopsy’s. She is eager to learn and to be independent.
Ever since her mother died her father became over protective of her. He is terrified that she gets ill and something happens to her. He tries to shelter her as much as he can. Besides her father, she lives with her brother on their estate.
Audry Rose isn’t the only one apprenticing for her uncle, charming, witty and brilliant Thomas is as well. Audry Rose finds him as attractive as she finds him annoying. Thomas really isn’t shy and makes it known that he is very interested and attracted to Audry Rose as well.
Things are starting to get more and more dangerous on the streets in London as Jack the Ripper is on the lose. Together with Thomas, Audry Rose tries to discover who Jack the Ripper is and solve the murders. Shocking revelations come to light and Audry Rose realizes she is a woman that loves the Ripper…..
What did I like about this book:
I really liked how modern Audry Rose felt despite being an Victorian English noble women. I liked that she didn’t let herself be pushed into being just a trophy wife. She wanted to learn and make a live for herself.
I really like Thomas. He is very charming and funny. I really liked how he was supporting Audry Rose and how he though and treated her as an equal.
One thing I also liked is how well the author kept the mystery going. It was hard to tell who the killer was. And the way she described the medical stuff going on was very interesting me as I to work in the medical field.
I am very impressed with the author, she did an amazing job for her first novel. I can’t wait to read more about these characters!

5 Amazing Stars
I picked up this book on the suggestion of my friend and fellow #AuthorConfession Podcast host Jessica Julien. Again, Jessica’s choice did not disappoint. (Drat. Just kidding, Jess!)
Maniscalco’s debut was an absolutely thrilling ride through London during the time of the infamous Jack the Ripper. Even with the exciting premise of following the notorious Ripper, I was a little unsure going into this as I am not a huge fan of historical fiction (I’ve been burned before), but Maniscalco may have renewed my faith. Stalking earns a well-deserved 5 stars from me.
Audrey Rose Wadsworth is a beautiful high society London debutante–who has a morbid fascination with cutting up dead bodies in the name of Science. Much to her father and brother’s dismay, Audrey has been studying under her Uncle’s tutelage as he teaches her everything he knows about the forensic sciences. When a crazed killer hits the streets, it throws London into a tailspin. When her Uncle is accused as being the Ripper, Audrey’s world turns upside down. With the help of the brilliant but and eternally irritating Thomas Cresswell, Audrey must use her knowledge of science and the maccabre to save her uncle before it’s too late. The only problem? The Ripper is a hunter, and he doesn’t much like being stalked.
WHAT I LIKED:
– Audrey Rose (she may be a lady, but dammit if she isn’t going to do what she wants.)
– Intriguing mystery with well placed clues and hints to keep you involved and guessing in Audrey Rose’s quest. Who’s the killer?? I had at least three different suspects throughout the whole book)
– Writing style, flow, word choice
– Interesting concept and great execution
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
– Not much!
Overall:
This was a great read, that once I started basically didn’t put down. We usually read Podcast books over a two week period, and when I reached the stopping point halfway found myself coming up with reasons why I had to read it until suddenly the book was finished. While there are a few books that I have enjoyed a bit more this year, I honestly could not find a reason to give this book less than 5 stars. It’s not normally my genre, but it was a wonderful taste of something new. And I would recommend it to just about anyone. I look forward to reading more of Audrey’s story in the future.
A highly entertaining book, I read it within a day and cannot wait to devour the rest of the series.
Stalking Jack the Ripper was definitely an interesting spin on the most infamous serial killer. The characters had depth and Kerri did a great job explaining Thomas and Audrey’s obsession with the dead. This book has plenty of mystery and suspense to keep the reader turning the page with speculations running wild. I also liked that this book doesn’t sugar coat the violence of the crimes or how the characters describe injuries and dead bodies. It really gives this book that scary, ominous feeling. The end was stunning and all around sinister and crazy in its delivery.
I definitely enjoyed this book and will be picking up the next book to see what’s in store for Audrey and Thomas. I hope it will be just as good as this one.
This is was a new book for me. I don’t normally listen to Historical Fiction but this has set a new found love for it.
I loved this book.
This book follows the acts of Jack the Ripper that was set in 1888. This book was so detailed that I actually began to Google the story of Jack the Ripper and to my surprise this was following his time line in 1888. Yet there are some fictional characters and actions to elaborate the story, I still love this book.
Audrey Rose was so fun to read about. Not only did we follow the story of Jack the Ripper but also a love story between Audrey and Thomas. The love story was not over done and did no way take away from the story line of this book.
This book kept you guessing until the end as who Jack the Ripper truly is. Kerri Maniscalco became a favorite author for me. So far this has hit one of my 2018 favorite reads
I borrowed this book from the library and thought that it was pretty good. Since no one really knows what happens, it makes a new tale for an old mystery.
Just an exceptionally well-written book.
i think this book is very awesome and that if you like a good thriller/mystery this is the book.
It took me a while to finish this book, but I finally did it! I honestly think it took me a while because it was something that I wasn’t used to reading. I’ve been trying to get out of my comfort zone with books that I read and this was recommended to me.
I adored our main character Audrey Rose! She was witty, sarcastic, and brilliant!
She refused to conform to what society wanted her to be. She was engrossed and fascinated by forensic science and a woman back in that time had no place in that kind of setting. Audrey Rose said why can’t I?
I loved reading about her journey trying to find out who was murdering all these women. Her interactions with Thomas were funny I loved every minute of it.
I read a lot of reviews that when the killer was revealed it was obvious. Well, I didn’t see it coming at all! This book kept me on my toes and I actually enjoyed it.
I’ve been told that Stalking Prince Dracula is pretty good and I think I will read it, just not right now. I will hopefully pick it up in near future.
3.5 Stars
Stalking Jack the Ripper captured my attention the first moment I saw another blogger post about it when it released. How could it not with that gorgeous cover and a title mentioning stalking one of the most notorious serial killers ever? Even though I was able to predict the ending very early on and the book didn’t blow me away, I still enjoyed this adventure. Audrey is a brave and snarky heroine during a time where women were not encouraged to think independently or do anything more strenuous than sip tea or perfect their needle point. As much as I liked Audrey, Thomas was my favorite character. His comical banter and flirting with Audrey made this book for me.
