Elsa Meier, a talented young Hessian girl who plays the hurdy-gurdy and dances, signs a contract to entertain miners in the Wild West. Elsa travels to America in the company of Miles and Alicia Peabody, the brother and sister who persuaded her mother to allow her to go. Elsa hopes for freedom and the chance to send money home to help her family. Instead she comes to the attention of a wealthy and … and unscrupulous man. On a stagecoach traveling into Montana Territory, Elsa conveys her peril to a handsome stranger with an Irish accent.
Con Walsh, on a quest to find the truth about himself, stumbles into a dangerous situation involving a frightened young woman in need of rescue. Despite his own pressing troubles, he finds that her own safety matters to him more than his own.
Set in Montana during its gold rush — a time troubled by outlaws, corruption and vigilante violence, Stagecoach to Liberty explores faith, love, and courage in the wild west. This story can stand alone or continue the saga that began with Hills of Nevermore and Cheyenne Sunrise.

The Montana Gold series continues with another exciting story of life on the frontier as readers are introduced to Elsa. Most of the main characters we have come to love from the earlier books are back and play a role in this new story. I appreciate that the author keeps the story clean but the message is clear about the desires and intentions of the people who are escorting Elsa to Montana. At times, I simply shook my head at the depravity and cruelty of certain characters who thought nothing at all of going to any measures to get what they wanted and apparently thought they deserved. Janalyn Voigt has taken certain historical locations and events and woven an interesting story about the plight of a young woman who was convinced to come to America to earn money to send back to her family in Germany, a very common occurrence during that era. In many cases, these young women became pawns in the hands of greedy, unscrupulous individuals. Compounding the problem was the fact that those who would try to protect the young women could easily end up brutally beaten or even dead. Would Elsa survive with her virtue intact? What would happen to the evil couple who had tricked her and so many others under false pretenses to come to America and travel out West to be auctioned to the highest bidder? Would other innocent people suffer for trying to do the right thing? Once again faith played a vital role in the lives of the people in Liberty and Bitterroot Valley as they struggled to have a decent life. I enjoyed the action, the romance, and the struggle of good versus evil. I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This was another incredible book proving God’s power and plan for each of his children, despite Satan’s attempts at stopping him! It seems like every key character (good guys), in this story had to fight their fears, step out in faith, forgive the unforgivable, follow their heart, and love despite the consequences! Definitely an emotional roller coaster for this reader! I highly recommend this book to Christians who want to be encourage and entertained, as well as those wanting to know what makes a believer respond differently in horrible situations! This book has it all in spades!!
Once again, Janalyn Voigt writes a story full of action and intrigue. With human trafficking, stagecoach robberies, lynchings, dangers from the Indians, kidnapping and more, Stagecoach to Liberty brings the Montana Gold Rush to life.
The characters were appealing. I could understand the motivation that drove Elsa to indenture herself to virtual strangers to travel to another country without her family. It was great to watch her transform from meekness to having courage to stand up for herself.
Though the book stands alone, it is best read after the others in the series to give a more complete understanding of some of the characters and their circumstances.
I was given a copy of this book for free. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
