This book is RATED-R FOR LANGUAGE by the publisher.Bush pilot Tom Stokes is about to face the worst day of his life. On a clear winter morning, he sets out to do some repairs on a remote hunt camp, leaving his five-year-old son and very pregnant wife snug in their beds.On the return trip, a squall forces him into an emergency landing and he winds up—quite literally—in the lap of petty criminal … the lap of petty criminal Dale Knight. Dale, now a fugitive from the law—and worse, from a merciless drug lord who just happens to be his brother—draws Tom into a web of mayhem and treachery that puts not only his life at risk, but the lives of his wife, son . . . and unborn child.
SQUALL is a fast-paced, darkly-comic tale of murder and gang-style retribution that grabs the reader on page one and just doesn’t let go.

I’m gonna be honest, I couldn’t even finish the book. I realize it’s a fictional story but there was just way too much random worst-case-scenario things happening all at one time. After the mountain lion scene when they end up taking off towards the pilot’s home, I just couldn’t deal with it. It’s extremely rare that I can’t finish a book but this one didn’t seem worth the time.
Very basic. Not much left to the imagination.
Too much blood, guts and profanity for me. I couldn’t get through it. This may be a great read for those who like gruesome thrillers.
I hated this book. Juvenile
I enjoyed the way the story unfolded. The characters were three dimensional..they had depth. I also was pleased that the women were strong and capable. It came as a pleasant surprise to have one of the bad guys redeemed himself and got away and turned his life around. Also the setting was here in Canada.
It is not credible that a 5 year old boy and his mother who has JUST given birth are able to hogtie the bad guy, even if he has fainted.
The story line was ridiculous! An airplane crash landing on a bathtub?!
Bad language and drug related. Couldn’t read it
Squall by Sean Costello is great. He writes with such a fine economy of words, and yet everything felt so vivid. I had as much fun reading this book as the author did writing it!
Scary
I quite enjoyed this. It alternates from various points of view all the way through, which I liked, the pace is fast, the dialogue good, the characters clear and well-defined. It didn’t quite hit the spot, though; it was a nearly-but-not-quite for me as far as the storytelling itself was concerned. There’s a bit of sloppy proofreading (words like ‘defuse’ that should be ‘diffuse’) that wouldn’t have bothered me if I’d really loved it.
The story is good, and mostly well thought out, with some nicely psychopathic killers, a ruthless slapper, a likeable junkie, and, of course, the ‘goodies’ ~ Tom and his family. There are some dodgy plot points, though, such as why Tom would have gone out in a flimsy plane to repair a building (that could have waited) when a severe storm was on its way, especially when it was his and his beloved son’s birthday and his wife was about to give birth. Then the whole reason why the aforementioned killers find his house – he left his wallet in the plane after it crashed into the house in which Dale was taking a bath. Seemed completely out of character for someone so conscientious, especially considering that his license was in it, and he knew Dale was being hunted by dangerous people.
It’s like a less compelling Blake Crouch novel. I’d try something else by this author, though.
Unfortunately, I was not able to get “Into” the story.
Hate just the one star but I could not removed it from my list without a rating. This is just not my style of book. I only read a couple of pages so do not have information to really rate this book.
This book was not what I expected. I deleted it after reading just a few pages.
An excellent read, the characters are well thought out and portrayed, it is so easy to read that you can get into the characters and try to guess the ending
couldn’t get into it. Don’t care about people who do anything for drugs and money so couldn’t keep reading.
Boring.
Three Stars for the shocking first and I mean first word of this book.. I am all for 4 letter words, but couldn’t we slowly build up to the big “F”. Found it easy to read and was packed with lots of action and the plot had a twist, but again every other word in a book. Is it really necessary.
I stopped reading because of the language
I thought it was really silly
