In a small country town, justice might be swift…but rumor is swifter! My name is Joey and I’m just a simple country girl. Nothing special at all. Well, except for the fact that I tend to find bodies all over the place. But aside from that I’m just like everybody else.Oh, then there’s that really big secret in my past. The one that involves my parents dying in a fiery crash and me finding out that … dying in a fiery crash and me finding out that the person who caused their deaths might be after me too.
But none of that matters right now. What matters is that I have a problem. My friend, Deputy Arno Willager just arrested his mom for murder.
He’s devastated. And to make his problems worse, his mom’s beloved elderly dog is in bad shape. Yeah, long story, we’ll get into that later.
Arno’s mom…well…unfortunately she can’t remember a thing. So Hal and I─oh, Hal’s my boyfriend and he’s a PI─are trying to help Arno figure out who killed the troublemaker his mom was standing over with a bloody knife. Yeah, it’s quite a mess.
But with the help of my best friend Caphy (my Pitbull) and Hal, I’m pretty sure we can suss out a killer.
After all, we’ve done it a few times already!

Quite an involved mystery with lots of moving and emotional parts the ending may surprise you. Great read
A good, clean romantic mystery read as part of a collection.
I was able to read Country Cousin Mysteries Collections One a couple of weeks ago and it was a real treat to be able to read Country Cousin Mysteries Collections Two so soon after finishing collection one. Even though these are all stand-alone stories, I enjoyed reading them in chronological order with the Box Collections. It was like binge watching a favorite season of a favorite tv show. Previously, I read Book 5, then Book 6, then Book 4, then Collection One (Books 1&2) and now Collection Two (Books 3-5). They are such good reads that I enjoyed reading Books 4 & 5 again. I have added them to my 2022 To Be Read List because I really love this series. Some of the stunts that Joey’s animals pull have me laughing out loud while some of the storylines have me shedding a few tears as they pull at my heartstrings. It is rare for me to find such a well-written series that elicits so many emotions while reading.
I really enjoy a good, clean, well-told, romantic mystery. There are more than a few red herrings in each of these entertaining whodunits. And the red-herrings all seem to be likely of being the murderer, so I was stumped to name the murderer until the reveal at the end, with more than one of the stories, and that is always fun for me. The romance that is interlaced into the stories is a plus for sure. Hal and Joey are such a cute couple that have each other’s back. There are also other recurring characters in the story that I foresee as becoming romantic duos in the near future.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves to delve into a good murder mystery with a bit of romance woven into the story.
I received a free copy of this book inside a box collection from the author via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This gift did not affect my review of the book. This review is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Once again Joey & Hal take us on an adventure of too may suspect to count! They are helping Arno on this case – to find a killer who framed his mom!
I love this series! Joey and Hal are asked to investigate the murder of the town bully. The only problem is that the suspect is the Deputy’s mother. Could she have done this or is she being framed? The narrative was great, setting the scene and helping to further develop the characters’ personalities. The investigation is filled with pitfalls, unexpected twists, multiple motives and surprises that keep you glued right to the end. The romantic element was charming and added a lot to the storyline. The story kept me on my toes and I was truly surprised a couple different times on who could have done this. You could feel Arno’s emotions as he tries to deal with this crime and his mom’s health. I loved the antics of the animals; Caphy and LaLee are a hoot! This story provides something for everyone with mystery, suspense, and a little romance. I enjoyed the small town mystery feel and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
