Island Chaptal—nerdy IT engineer by day, romance novel junkie by night—just walked into her messy New York apartment to find Mr. Right waiting for her. No, wait…Mr. Clean.A gentleman professional killer with a bad case of OCD and zero tolerance for unsorted laundry, March wants the diamond her late mother stole for a sinister criminal organization. Island agrees to help him find it, facing the … agrees to help him find it, facing the kind of adversaries who dismember first and ask questions later. Good thing she’s got March to show her the ropes. And the guns. And the knives.
The buttoned-up Island is soon having a blast racing from Paris to Tokyo following the clues in her mother’s will, and for the first time, she’s ready to get close to someone. For real. And it could be the tropiest, cheesiest romance ever between her and a brooding hero with impeccable manners and sexy chest hair, if only the bullets would stop raining, dammit.

This book was so action-packed that there was never a dull moment. I loved how the characters had so many flaws.
I adore this series. What’s not to love? It’s hilarious, action-packed, and has an ongoing romance that makes me swoon. Love it!
Audible.
I read this via KU a few years ago and adored it. Adding Amy McFadden’s narration to the mix makes it even better.
Camilla Monk has a totally unique and endearing sense of humor. I couldn’t help but embrace the ridiculousness that is Island Chaptal and her captor/protector March. Also, despite this being over-the-top it’s also strangely relatable. Entirely from Island’s POV – we join her on trying to survive her central but oblivious role in an ongoing mission to recover a diamond her deceased mother hid years ago. March plays the experienced yet OCD ridden assassin. (Think Monk, but with guns.)
Amy McFadden is terrific in this. She provides a full cast of characters from a variety of countries with discernible and consistent voices. Additionally, McFadden also gives each “outtake” from faux romance novels that serve as the intro to every chapter their own unique delivery.
Heads up: This is somewhat a cliffhanger in that there is a complete and enjoyable story here, but there are definitely more adventures to come and the book ends on a bit of a dun, dun, duuunnn…
Island & March
I read this during a book funk so basically I was struggling during the first half of the story. Still this book was enough to entertain me and get me out of the funk.
One of the funniest book I’ve read so far. I just wish we get to have March’s POV and speaking of March, I never thought I’d come across an assassin who has an OCD
I had so much fun reading this…
Good job Camilla Monk
I can’t believe I had this book on my Kindle and only read it after a recommendation on Twitter…
I could not put it down and even took my Iphone to the bathroom at work to sneak some chapters in.
Island is a bit strange but I loved her! Brought up by her mother until she was 15, traveling the world, Island knows languages and cities. One day she is surprised to find a man in her apartment, even more so when she discovers why he is there and an adventure begins. And this adventure is not for the faint at heart as shots are constantly fired and the body count rises alarmingly…
March is an interesting person with his quirks and background and I enjoyed his interactions with Island. I am happy to know there are more books because I need more Island and March. (2017)
This story was a lot of fun!
Overall, I liked the cast of characters. Island tended to get a tad annoying at times, while March paled a bit in comparison. To be fair, his character isn’t one given to grand gestures and theatrics, so that is quite fitting, even if I would have liked it otherwise sometimes.
Dries felt a bit inconsistent to me, I’m not sure I understand why he acted the way he did.
I really loved the little things, like the scene with the robo-mop () or rating the quality of private jets by their paint jobs.
While some story-arcs got resolved in this first installment to keep me happy (I HATE complete cliffhangers), there are enough loose ends to keep me wondering how the story will unfold in the second book.
4 solid stars.
The negatives.
The adult steamy factor is sorely lacking. There are moments that make you think finally something is going to happen, then like a cold shower, you are left unfulfilled. I don’t remember any typos, etc., but…..
this book had me laughing so hard half the time and intrigued the other, I may have missed them. Off the hook funny. The thoughts that run through Island’s mind and the things that come out of her mouth will have you laughing out loud. Oh, and March has a dry humor that will put a grin on your face and make you chuckle out loud.
Along with the humor is a great mystery, jammed packed action and plenty of suspense.
There are plenty of twist and turns. Some interesting surprises you don’t see coming.
A fun and delightful story.
I am still not a hundred percent sure if I will read book #2. My only reason for this is the lack of adult romance. In truth this is more of a between book. It is between ‘Young Adult’ and ‘New Adult’. So while there is romance, it is not the main part of this book. The main genre here is ‘Mystery’ and the secondary genre would be ‘Suspense’ and ‘Humor’ sitting side by side.
It is definitely worth the read!

A very interesting read about an OCD cleaning neat freak assassin and a computer engineer. Island had no idea, that her life was going to be way over the top for the best few days, Lol. This is my first read by this author and I was pleasantly engaged and kept on the tip of my toes throughout. Filled with danger, murders, guns, chemistry, suspense, and a wonderful set of characters, I could barely put this book down. The only thing that put me off a bit was the obvious chemistry between March and Island and though there were close moments, they still hadn’t had their moment even at the end. *sigh* C’est la vie. Oh! The brief little excerpts from so called fictional books at the beginning of every chapter is laugh out loud hilarious!!!!!!
Here’s an example of one of the many…
SPOILER AHEAD!!!
“Malcolm flashed her a seductive smile, revealing a row of teeth so white that she felt engulfed by their light, as if she had been hit by a supernova.” —Livia Torrente, The Billionaire’s Beautiful Waitress (Lol)
A great read. 4 stars!!!!!
I loved this unexpected book about a young woman kidnapped by a handsome hitman who happens to be a clean freak. She is caught up in spy action that began with her parents before she was born. She has the odd name of Island, and thought her mom was told n the diplomatic service, not a free-lance jewel thief. But Island is no faint-hearted heroine. She is as quirky as her name, and I soon found myself cheering for her to solve the mystery as she falls for her hitman. I’ve read all 4 books, and can’t wait for number five!
This is a must read series!! It is jammed packed with action and intrigue, all the while being witty and out right funny! You won’t be disappointed!!
A different and entertaining to read.
Best new series I’ve found in a long time!!
Talk about quirky humor!
The story was a far fetch silly story I couldn’t resist not enjoying. A great break away from everything serious in the world right now.
You have to go into this book with an open non-judgmental mind until you see how this different story flows.
All you need to do is just enjoy the ride.
Island was on the constant move all her life being raised by her mother until a tragic accident when she was 15 that killed her mother and sent her to live with her father in the states. Life for her was boring and normal until she walked in on a man going through her stuff. It all went downhill from there.
March is definitely not book boyfriend material for me but he seemed to work for Islander.
He is on a mission to find and retrieve a rare large diamond that everyone things she has or knows where it is located.
Kidnapping, interrogations, foreign countries, shootouts, and mystery all wrapped up in a hilarious combination.
The events in this was more strange and crazy than anything and I really enjoyed every minute of it.
I had the audiobook and Amy McFadden is always great on her impressions.
They need a new category, annoying. And OCD hitman and a poorly draw geekish woman book 1 is the best of the lot. by book 3 it was hitting 1* and book 4 should come with a warning sign it was that absurd. Skip the whole series
