“As with all Connie Shelton books, a fantastic read. Can’t wait to move on to the next one.” –5 starsNow that Samantha Sweet has a contract to provide her special handmade chocolates for the wealthy jet-set clients of Book It Travel, Sweet’s Sweets bakery is taking on a whole new dimension. Only problem, Sam isn’t ready. It’s almost Halloween, her pastry shop is bursting at the seams and she … the seams and she needs extra employees but there is no place to put them.
Right before the witching day, she comes upon a large Victorian house she can adapt for the business, and it seems her problem is solved. But is it? The mysterious, spooky noises at night are way more than the normal creaks and groans of an old building. Something else is going on and Sam suspects it may be related to her husband’s newest case, investigating where an abandoned duffle bag crammed full of cash came from. Beau is dealing with a greedy reward-seeker, a robbery with no leads, and a waif who appears and vanishes. Sam’s mystery has her watching for ghosts and working almost around the clock. Is she relying on magic?—well, occasionally.

This is such a fun series to read!
I love Connie Sheldon books.
I read the first book in this series and then came upon this one for free. Lots of character development between the two but are still perfectly acceptable stand-alones. Nice Halloween backdrop and like the details. Was happy to jump later in the series and see where life had taken the characters. That being said, you need an open mind to enjoy the series. Some magic and mystery that isn’t easily explained. Doesn’t take away from the story for me but it might for others.
This was the first cozy mystery I’ve read and I loved it so much I want to explore more in the genre
Easy to read and I’m sure if you read the series it is much better but it is really not a stand alone book.
Samantha Sweet is such a relatable character, you just have to pull for her.
Thoroughly enjoyed this mystery. Loved the strong female heroine.
This isn’t a book with young, beautiful main characters falling in love and into bed. This is a story with an older, greyhaired main female character who is starting and expanding her life’s dream. There is a little danger and of course a touch of magic and mystery.
I love Connie Shelton…I’m on #12 of Samantha series
Good cozy read.
A nice and easy read all the way thru!
A story within a story: Sam has a successful bakery and is attempting to open a second location for candy making. She finds a victorian mansion to renovate for a picturesque candy store. Meanwhile, her husband, who is the local sheriff, has a myterious bank robbery he is trying to solve. When the two stories intertwine, who knows what will happen. A few magic ingredients and some mysterious characters make this story delicious!
I loved it .
Enjoyed this book perfect for this time of year. Will definitely read more of her books
Read last book first-ever oops! Loved the characters so I went back to book 1 (2 and 3!). Can’t wait to continue to find out what adventures await. Unique twists. Original. Add to your read list of must reads cozy mysteries!
Just finishing this up! The more I read the better it got. Going to read more of her work for sure!
I enjoyed reading this book from the first page until the last. Heartwarming with great characters.
Really enjoyed it. Will definitely read her other books
I enjoyed the slight idea of magic, and mystery of the crime being solved at the same time. I felt although all was finished it seem to come to a too simple end.
I really enjoyed getting lost for a while with this book. It’s a great escape from reality.
