“As with all Connie Shelton books, a fantastic read. Can’t wait to move on to the next one.” –5 starsNow that Samantha Sweet has a contract to provide her special handmade chocolates for the wealthy jet-set clients of Book It Travel, Sweet’s Sweets bakery is taking on a whole new dimension. Only problem, Sam isn’t ready. It’s almost Halloween, her pastry shop is bursting at the seams and she … the seams and she needs extra employees but there is no place to put them.
Right before the witching day, she comes upon a large Victorian house she can adapt for the business, and it seems her problem is solved. But is it? The mysterious, spooky noises at night are way more than the normal creaks and groans of an old building. Something else is going on and Sam suspects it may be related to her husband’s newest case, investigating where an abandoned duffle bag crammed full of cash came from. Beau is dealing with a greedy reward-seeker, a robbery with no leads, and a waif who appears and vanishes. Sam’s mystery has her watching for ghosts and working almost around the clock. Is she relying on magic?—well, occasionally.

I was looking for a light Halloween read and this fit the bill. It was engaging and well written.
One of my new favorite authors. Enjoyed this book immensely.
I like reading about my winter home area in Northern NM. This book takes us to Taos and Angel Fire so fun to read.
Loved it! Fun to read, kept me intrigued, and couldn’t put it down.
Great characters and unpredictable ending.
This was a fascinating book, full of great bakery and chocolate thoughts but also a bit of magic and other-worldliness. The characters were fascinating, and the drama and story line kept me guessing!
I love the characters and story…entertaining and fun to read!
Sam (Samantha) Sweet, the owner of “Sweet’s Sweets”, a prosperous bakery known for its specialty cakes and cookies, starts a new line of sweets, delicious handmade chocolates. Stan Bookman, a travel agent, loves her special chocolates so much that he puts her under contract to keep producing enough chocolates so he can distribute them to his many customers. As her candy business grows, she realizes she needs more space so she can keep producing enough cakes, cookies and chocolates to meet her ever growing demand. The book is called “Spooky Sweet” because she owes her energy and later, her safety, to a secret magical box , and the success of her chocolates to a strange man named Bobul who always appears suddenly and stays a short time, giving her techniques on how to make the chocolates as well as giving her the secret powders to use in her mixes. She acquires an old house and has it remodeled to meet the expanding needs of her chocolate production and packaging business. While Sam is totally submerged in her sweets businesses, her husband Beau, the local law enforcement officer, is investigating the sudden discovery of a bag of ten thousand dollars in the restaurant, “Charlotte’s Place”. The theft of the money, Beau’s search for the person who left it at the restaurant, and the use of the new house for her expanding candy business become intertwined and the reader cannot put this wonderful book, “Spooky Sweet”, down until all of the questions which keep turning up have been answered.
Love this series!!!!
Fun book!
Spooky Sweet was a wonderful story with crime, romance and very interesting characters.
I liked that this was an easy interesting read. I’m a fan of the mystical angle.
Its was a nice Halloween book that told a story about this candy and cake owner that had a magical book that pretty much saved her life. Thanks
Good mix of paranormal and realistic.
This is the first book I’ve read by Connie Shelton and it most certainly wont be the last! Not only was I surprised that I read as a stand alone, but the amount of mystery to keep me interested and intrigued I haven’t found in many other cozy mysteries. Eager to read more by Ms. Shelton. Thanks BookBub for introducing a great, talented, new-to-me author!
I always find these stories entertaining. A bit predictable, but a fun read in between heavier stories.
Light reading, relaxing.
