“As with all Connie Shelton books, a fantastic read. Can’t wait to move on to the next one.” –5 starsNow that Samantha Sweet has a contract to provide her special handmade chocolates for the wealthy jet-set clients of Book It Travel, Sweet’s Sweets bakery is taking on a whole new dimension. Only problem, Sam isn’t ready. It’s almost Halloween, her pastry shop is bursting at the seams and she … the seams and she needs extra employees but there is no place to put them.
Right before the witching day, she comes upon a large Victorian house she can adapt for the business, and it seems her problem is solved. But is it? The mysterious, spooky noises at night are way more than the normal creaks and groans of an old building. Something else is going on and Sam suspects it may be related to her husband’s newest case, investigating where an abandoned duffle bag crammed full of cash came from. Beau is dealing with a greedy reward-seeker, a robbery with no leads, and a waif who appears and vanishes. Sam’s mystery has her watching for ghosts and working almost around the clock. Is she relying on magic?—well, occasionally.

This is the 11th in the series. The main characters are Sam and her hubby Beau. In this one Sam’s chocolates are making it big and she needs the expand the bakery. But there is no way of doing that or affording it. Then a woman in the bakery hears Sam talking to one of the bakers about it and has a place she thinks will be perfect. That starts everything else.
Beau is investigating a robbery and it ends up right in the middle of Sam’s new place. The way they work it all out is amazing. I look forward to reading more of her adventures.
I have to admit, I didn’t realize this was book 11 in a series until I was quite a ways through, but luckily, this was a book you could pick up and get into pretty quickly without knowing the background. I chose it because I really wanted a fun cozy mystery to read for Halloween, and Spooky Sweet fit the bill. It had everything you could want from a Halloween cozy: candy making, mysterious noises in an old Victorian house, bumps in the night, and of course, attempted murder!
It was a good book. I would have liked it to be a bit more in depth. Maybe in her next book I will find my answers!!
It was a great fun read
Love this series. Easy read, great characters!
Fun to read.
This one had a few twists with a little paranormal thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed it immensely as I do all of Connie Shelton’s books!
I liked the sections on Bobul, the master chocolitier, and how the author wove all the different characters and plots together to make one whole, beautifully integrated story. Well done!
O thought it was great. Would like more by her
As a bonus there are some recipes you can try out.
Great storyline! Following along with characters that don’t know what is going on keeps you turning the page! Unique twists to the story keeps you guessing!
The character’s are fantastic, Sam and Beau are perfect and when she’s running out of her secret ingredients the big guy shows up again. When Sam buys the Victorian house you just know things are going to happen. Have to say when you read these books you need to have chocolate close by because your mind tells you, you need chocolate. The robbery makes you realize why some people do what they do. Really enjoyed this book.
a well done mystery set in a chocolate factory…which I enjoyed a lot.
The perfect ingredients for an enjoyable reading experience! Sam has landed a big contract and chocolate production has become a major priority. Space is cramped in the present bakery with cake orders, cookies, pies and other goodies to supply the locals. As chance would have it, an affordable victorian becomes available – complete with noises – and the chocolate orders are soon being cranked out, all made with the secret ingredient blend that gives them their signature twist. Amidst the activity is a major robbery, a magical box, an old book, and a mystical master chocolatier that seems to just pop in out of thin air at random. Enchanting with the right amount of spooky – and chocolate, of course! The narrator is a hoot!!!
Cute quick read.
It was a good story, wasn’t very Hollowness, but entering none the less.
