My name is Alyssa Grey, and I have no idea what I’m doing… in life, love, with my magic powers—you name it.Working as a personal assistant to the busiest realtor in the small Southern town of Swan Hallow always kept me plenty busy, but then my boss’s partner died and I got a promotion… Just without the extra pay.Now I’m showing old homes, and every single one of them is haunted. As a witch, I’m … haunted. As a witch, I’m not supposed to be able to see ghosts. But I do. And they know I do. And I know they know I do. And, oh boy.
Worse yet, an apparition that looks an awful lot like my boss’s dead partner has come knocking, and demanding I solve her murder. I’ve been given an ultimatum: help or die. It looks like I can’t really trust anyone any more. Will my cat, mouse familiar, and a new shapeshifter friend be enough to help me get the job done in what little time I have left?

I’d like to give it more than 5 stars
Great start to a new series by one of my favorite authors. I love the main character & enjoyed getting to know her and learn about her background as the story progressed. This is a well written original story. I look forward to reading more in this series.
Quite a spooky tale!
A fun and suspenseful witch cozy. Ghost cozy. This was a light-hearted read, with some whimsical elements (like a mouse with attitude!), but it did get scary at the end! Well written, engaging, with secrets revealed and twists and turns. I absolutely loved it!
Poor Alyssa! She may be in over her head. She has a very haunted house to sell while trying to discover who murdered her boss’ partner. After all as a witch, Alyssa should not see ghosts, but this one is issuing ultimatums! She will need all the help she can get. I love the characters, premise and plot for this new series. With her cat and a very funny mouse familiar, will Alyssa be able to solve the murder? You will have to read this great, new mystery to find out!
I have been provided with a copy of Spooks for Sale by Sweet Promise Press for an impartial review. This is the first book in the brand-new Magical Real Estate series and this was just a fantastic way to start off a new series. Oh my gosh this story was just absolutely amazing to read. I just loved this story and I just didn’t want it to end. It was just extremely easy to lose yourself in this great story and I just fell in love with these amazing characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
One of the keys to a great mystery is keeping the suspense and surprising the reader when the ‘whodonit” is revealed. Aspenson nailed it in this one. I definitely didn’t see that one coming.
This new book is a winner! Alyssa is a hoot. Making her familiar a mouse made for some LOL moments. The meeting between the John (the familiar) and Farnus/Roland (the cat) is great fun. Alyssa is a scrappy brave character and a strong woman. I love books with strong female character who isn’t whiny or shrill. This is the first of a new series and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I received an advance reader’s copy of the book, which doesn’t influence my review. This was a flat out fun book!
Spooks for Sale (Magical Real Estate Book 1), my seventh highly enjoyable read from author Carolyn Ridder Aspenson and the first book in her new Magical Real Estate series. Well-written & enjoyable. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Alyssa Grey is a personal assistant in a real estate agency and a witch that is a slow bloomer. Holly Glumming has died in a fall down the steps of run down mansion that is for sale. Alyssa sees her ghost and learns her gift is as a ghost hunting supernatural. With the help of her smart talking familiar John who is a mouse and Roland, Holly’s cat she needs to find out who killed Holly and also discover who Alyssa Grey really is. A very enjoyable cozy with a large serving of Ms Aspenson humor and wit. Highly recommended
This is an absolutely delightful start to a spooky new series! Holly takes over the listing of a deceased real estate agent and finds her ghost in residence. As expected of this author, the plot is well thought out, the characters (both 2 and 4 legged) are engaging, and the story moves along at a nice pace. I’m looking forward to the next book. I received this book free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.
Allysa Grey has a pretty normal life for a witch, she is a personal assistant to a Real Estate agent, has a human to watch over and a house to get ready for sale. But, all is not what it seems and when the ghost of her boss’s dead partner shows up in the house she is trying to sell she wonders if maybe the fall she had was not an accident. This is the first book in the Magical Real Estate series, looking forward to the next installment.
A talking mouse and a cat, who can chat with the mouse, are new best buddies helping a witch, who also works as a real estate assistant. Fun characters in this magical new series. Alyssa must find out who killed her boss and also sell the house where her boss died and find out all of the mysteries of the house and her boss. Helping her along the way, besides John the mouse and Roland the cat, is Abershama, a 19 year old werewolf cougar. Everyone and everything is not as it seems and Alyssa uncovers a lot of secrets about her family. And sells the house. Looking forward to more adventures with these fun new characters in this very interesting town of Swan Hallow. Lots of twists and surprises.
Spooks for Sale is the first in a series by Carolyn Ridder Aspenson. Alyssa Grey is a witch and she’s not even sure what she is doing yet. Allyssa works at Blackwood Glumming Real Estate in Swan Hollow and gets promoted when her bosses partner Holly Glumming dies, selling houses! It just so happens that Alyssa starts to see ghosts which isn’t normal for a witch but then again having a mouse, named John as a familiar is pretty weird too. Alyssa also inherits Rolland, Holly’s familiar cat. When was Holly a witch?
Such a great new series! I can’t wait for the next one!
I really enjoyed this start of a new paranormal series it has witches, shapeshifters, family secrets, twist and turns. Alyssa Grey is a personal assistant to a real estate agent trying to sell an old estate where someone has just been killed so Alyssa is trying to find out who killed her and just coming into her witchy powers and finding out her familiar is a mouse. I highly recommend.
I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion
An unusual story about an unusual family history. So many twists and turns and so many questions needing answered. This book takes the reader on a real quest and keeps you searching for the answers the entire time. What a great read!
This was a different take on what Supernatural means. Yes there is Supernatural as we know it but it’s spun different in this book. That makes it more interesting to read the spin on Supernatural. This is a fun cozy mystery with that interesting twist. I know I am going to enjoy this series. If you love supernatural and cozy books then pick up this book.

Spooks for Sale is a wonderful beginning to Carolyn Ridder Aspenson’s newest cozy series. Alyssa Grey, a witch navigating both the paranormal and human worlds, is learning how to use and control her powers and working as a personal assistant to a very demanding real estate agent. When her boss’s partner dies getting a house ready for sale, Alyssa is ordered to sell it. Now! This book is funny, spooky, surprising and the cast of characters is great! I can not wait to see what Alyssa will do next and if the nice police officer who buys the house comes back in the next book! Her familiar, John is smart, funny and surprising!
Alyssa is a witch and she lives in Swan Hollow. Swan Hollow is in south Georgia and is a special town. Witches and other paranormals live among the humans. Alyssa is just coming into her powers and she finds her familiar, a mouse!
This is the first book in a new series and I look forward to the next. I loved the characters and the mystery.
I loved this story! Alyssa isn’t even a real estate agent, but gets stuck organising a house for sale, for her boss. A haunted house that no one wants, unless they can buy it for cheap.
When in the house, Alyssa sees the ghost of her boss’s partner, who recently died. Holly’s death was not an accident, as initially thought, and Alyssa needs to help solve the case, while also trying to get the house ready for sale.
So much is discovered about Holly and the history of the house, with some surprising twists!
The characters in this one were such fun, and I’m a sucker for talking pets/familiars in books!
I really enjoyed this story and I hope there’ll be another one.
This was a fun first in a new series. I enjoyed all the characters.
Witchy Fun!
Spooks for Sale is an excellent beginning to a witchy new series. Alyssa Grey is a witch who is trying to find her way in the world – and figure out how to interact with her newly found familiar, a mouse! Yep, other witches get cats and dogs, Alyssa gets a sarcastic, snarky mouse.
The buildup to the mystery is a little slow-paced, but the characters and town of Swan Hollow are really fun to get to know. Onde the mystery is underway, the action is fast-paced and relentless.
I really enjoyed Spooks for Sale and look forward to seeing where the series goes.
