Wow, this is one of those books that stays with you for a while. Deep, dark, and beautifully written. I enjoyed it immensely! I will say that it took me a while to get into it, the beginning was slow but then things started to pick up and I couldn’t put it down. The characters were a little twisted but still relatable and the plot was interesting. It shows love can come in many forms and even when you don’t think you deserve it. If you like dark, twisted romances you will enjoy this book!
What a book… it really is a mystery to be how one so seemingly innocent can write something so dark and sinister! Anne takes you on an emotional journey as we dive into Magnolia’s world and what a world it is. She captures your imagination with her strong character, and her feisty don’t talk to me attitude. Her demons and monsters bleed out of her through every word she writes, but her new book just might bring all the monsters straight to her door! Entangled through this dark tale is also a story of two broken souls finding each other, the push and pull, the fight that goes on between Magnolia and Saint is intriguing as it is endearing.. a love story of sorts but nowhere near the conventional love story. This book will test your spirit, it will take you to the brink and back so many times… definitely not for the faint of heart, but so totally worth the roller coaster if you dare to get on!
If I could give this book more then five stars I think I would. This book was Everything you would expect in a book. From just reading the blurb, this book oozes grit, darkness, mystery, horror and of course a sprinkle of romance within.
Splinters of you by Anne Malcom is the first book in a all new brand new Series called the Retired Sinners MC. This book is told by the heroines point of view.
This is Magnolias and Saints Story!

If you are familiar with Anne Malcom’s work then you will realise that it’s completely different to anything she has ever written. You’ll notice that she has exorcised a lot demons in this book and if your a hardcore reader like me then you’ll know that this book is different. It’s not romance. It’s something else entirely.
If you thought Anne found her darkness in Birds of Paradise think again, this book tops that by almost EVERYTHING!
As I am reading this book, the pages are seeping into my very pores and I am living for this book and I feel connected to these characters in a way that no other book has done.
I feel like I keep repeating myself but this book is so different, quite a fair bit of people are referring this book to some of their favourite investigation shows and I have to agree.
It felt like I was watching my very own CSI or even a Criminal Minds show where not only was I watching the show but I was the show, I was the investigator but also the victim and the villain.
Magnolia doesn’t claim to be a good person, she is who she is and to be honest she doesn’t give a damn if you like her or not. Above all she is fiery, sassy and within darkness is sleeping through her pores and is written using the keys on her keyboard.
Saint is what can I say, everything I expected him to be and not expected him to be at the same time. He had lived a life of evil and depravity and is now hiding from his past. Saint is the type of man who wears his sins on his sleeve. Although as much as he didn’t want to fall for Magnolia, he just did. He wanted her just as much as she wanted him.
Together they were perfectly imperfect, there’s something between them that neither of them could control, their monsters and darkness called to one another and played well together but there manipulative and dark minds. Well what can I say? They are at War with one another.
I am not going to go into the plot of this book as this is a book that needs to be read going in blind. It is the only way to go into this book. Although I can say is expect the unexpected and all is not what it seems.
I cannot write or even tell you how much I loved this book, it gripped me from my soul and held on with a tight grip. I certainly cannot wait to see where Anne takes us next in this series.
Splinters of You was nothing like I expected. This novel was unique and so different from this authors other stories. It wasn’t a romance but there was a little romance in it, it wasn’t a dark read but there were some trigger elements included. Anne Malcom gave us a tale that started off slow but eventually escalated, one that will have you at the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next, and one that had some twists you never saw coming.
This novel is the first book in a new series called the Retired Sinners MC and it was told from the heroine Magnolia POV. I loved that the author portrayed Magnolia as selfish and brash and I loved that she was not jumping through hoops to please anyone.
The characters in this story were complex and flawed but the author did an excellent job developing them. In addition there was a cast of secondary characters who greatly added to the story in one way or the other.
This novel was well-written, descriptive and layered and the author did an excellent job keeping me hooked until the very end. It was not a flowery pretty story, it was intensely gripping and while you think you now what’s going to happen, you really don’t.
Splinters of You was a murder mystery thriller with a hint of romance. I loved it and would highly recommend it.
Like a fine wine, Anne Malcom’s writing just gets better and better with every book she puts out. This book is dark. Darker than we’ve seen from her, but it’s amazing.
“Our monsters played well together”
We see demons exorcized in a literary form as we watch these characters grow and bond. I don’t want to share too much, you need to read this book to see the extent of the spine tingling relationship. I’m excited to see where this new world of Sinners will take us!
This book had me at MC romance, dark and Anne Malcom. I was way past exited to get into this story and I was not let down, by anything!! The story is dark and dirty, gritting and harsh but it is a story of horror writer, a serial killer a broken scared MC alpha and all that that implies. I LOVED this story so hard! There is also mystery and passion, violence and heat. It is the perfect mix of the list above. I was swept away with every character, every gasping moment, every heart stropping revelation and the romance… yep, if I was not already in love with MC men then this book would have converted me. Perfection!
4.5 stars. Unapologetically dark. This reads like a deeply personal novel from Anne Malcom, almost autobiographical in its details. Told from the female protagonist’s point of view, she’s not too likeable, but real and strong. Almost other worldly strong but this isn’t a paranormal in any sense. It’s a crime thriller with a slightly alcoholic heroine. Yes, there is a love interest here who helps balance out poor Magnolia, but the romance takes a backseat to the thriller/murder aspect. I wanted more of the MC world – it’s ugly but interesting. I wish there was more about the killer and the ending seemed abrupt to me. I loved Magnolia’s relationship with her father – So real and riveting! Go figure but it was my favorite relationship in this book.
Sucked in by the first page. The story, the characters, their backstory (or lack of, that had me riveted), it was everything I didn’t know I wanted. Yes, the anti heroine, Magnolia Grace (don’t let the name fool you), I just loved her. Yes she was a cow, yes she was harsh, and yes, she was remarkable, strong and thought herself incapable of love. An author who goes to extreme measures to get over her writer’s block. Leaving the hustle and bustle of New York for a cabin in the woods in a town called Terror, all to get her words back. Magnolia is not a sociable person, she’s not looking for friends, but maybe if she opens herself up to friendship she’ll find what she’s looking for, and maybe more. I don’t know how to write this review without spoilers, there are so, so many things happening throughout the story. Murder, suspense, including some pretty violent and gruesome scenes, and maybe there’s a possibility of a little romance. I loved, loved, loved it. I’m always afraid to try new authors, I don’t like the unknown, and I don’t like being disappointed. I am so glad I took a chance on Anne Malcom. I loved her writing style, her characters, and her story. I can’t wait to read more of her past (and future) work. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
This book was unlike anything I’ve ever read. I don’t even know how to put into words the feelings this book gave. I love Anne’s writing and I have to say I think this book truly shows what an amazingly talented writer Anne is.
“I wasn’t one person. I was many. Splinters of what I could’ve been. Mangled. Cut down like an old oak tree, now waiting to embed tiny pieces of myself into whoever I could. I didn’t want anyone to escape me. I want them to have to absorb me, what I’d done into their souls forever. Splinters of me.”
This was my first book by this author. I really liked it. This book reminded me how much I liked horror. I found Stephen King in high school. It reminded me of why I liked those dark tales. It also had me guessing the entire time I read it. I wanted to know who the killer was. I wanted Saint and Magnolia to be together, but every character had me wondering are they the killer.
Magnolia doesn’t claim to be a good person. She doesn’t live her life for anyone but herself. I can’t tell you that I liked her. I wouldn’t want to be her friend. I did want to know why she had these dark thoughts, and why she has writer’s block. She packed up and moved to a home in the woods that belonged to a girl who was killed by a serial killer. In the midst of the memories of that dead girl, Magnolia finds her voice again. I would never do that, so, I wanted to know her.
Saint was a recluse. He had lived a life of evil and depravity. He hid from that past. He punished himself. But, he wanted her. She saved herself over and over, but I think he wanted to save her. He wanted to be the one she needed.
This book was a ride. It tosses you back and forth thru the turns in the road. It is not predictable. The minute you think you know where it’s taking you, you go thru a hairpin turn that you never saw coming. This book was good, and I will be making time for others by her.
Anne has written her most character driven book and in Magnolia Grace one of the most fascinating woman EVER.
Magnolia’s darkness and demons are like an ever present itch under her skin, you may not see them but you can feel them vibrating in the air. What does an author do when she’s lost her mojo, if your Magnolia y`ou relocate to a cabin in the woods with a dubious history in a town called Terror. When did I start to question her sanity, very early in my reading journey to be honest. However Anne had me obsessed with this story. By no stretch of the imagination is this a romance it is not light reading. Magnolia is not someone you can say you like but she gets under your skin, she is hard work. She doesn’t care what you think which is so refreshing. I’ve read alot of books with suspense but this one had my heart beating faster my adrenaline was through the roof.
This is different from Anne’s previous books but it will forever be one of my favourite stories by her.
I just finished Anne Malcom’s new book, Splinters of You, and I’m still shaken!! Every time I get used to the level of DARK in Anne’s books she levels up on me. The writing, attention to detail, description and love for her craft is next level genius.
5 STUNNING stars for Splinters of You!This isn’t your Mama’s romance, so buckle up and enjoy the ride!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Another great read by one of my favorite authors. As per usual you could really feel the emotion coming off of the pages while reading. I also love how this author describes her characters. You can truly visualize what they look like and how they act by her descriptions. Saint and Magnolia Are not your typical characters. You really couldn’t imagine them in a relationship but it works. They both have been through so much and I truly cynical. I love this author. She writes the stories that have so many ups and downs twists and turns you don’t know what’s going to happen next. I love that the relationship between the two main characters was not typical and not romantic at all. It was real and painful without all the hearts and flowers. Truly a great read had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!!!
“Happy people freaked me out.
They were all liars.”
Can we just pretend this entire review shows various ways my brain exploded while reading Splinters of You? I feel like every chapter I was either sitting there mouth agape with tiny explosions going off in my brain or I was laughing insanely hard (feeling slightly wrong about laughing at the context in Anne Malcom’s upcoming release). I’ve met a lot of brutally blunt honest people, it is actually something I think the world could use more of. Magnolia Grace is extreme in her brutal honesty. You both love that about her and want to know more or you’re too busy staring at the train wreck to notice anything else happening around you!
Anne Malcom uses her words like a tool of utter chaos and mental warfare. I don’t think I recall another time where an author has given us an anti-heroine such as this one. And Magnolia Grace was just that. You love that you hate her and you hate loving her. What’s really awesome about Magnolia Grace is she is well aware of her faults and she accepts herself. She might not like herself but she knows who she is and she doesn’t hide it.
I’ve been reading Anne Malcom’s books obsessively since her very first series. All of her books have a theme, one of love, of a couple who come together during their worst and bring out the best in each other. Splinters of You does not follow that theme. This feels like a book where she opened up her rib cage for us all to see what she’s made of! She’s full of passion and dreams, an obsession with the eloquent words released from her soul!! Every single time I read her I’m in awe of the poetic way she creates the worlds in her mind.
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
In this book Anne gives us another heroine who is powerful, incredibly strong but yet a little soft underneath it all. There was a lot of suspense that I felt like I was turning the handle of a Jack in the box , every page a click, just waiting for the evil clown to jump out. I loved that this was Not your typical romance book. I really enjoy darker books and this one fed by passion in spades. Highly recommended!!
You know it is a good book when it can take you a few days after finishing to write up a review. Yes Anne has another MC series but I believe this one will be very different. This one for me, since I have not read anything from Steven King is more along the lines of a Lisa Jackson story. There is a crime, some mystery and someone falling for the unlikely person than what you would expect.
Anne knows dark in some of her books, but this one kept me wondering what happened next and when you think you know, you are so wrong in your theory. I have yet to read one of Anne Malcom’s books that has not keep me wanting to forget the outside world for a while and binge read her stories. So if you like a bit of mystery, an unsolved crime and a bit of unexpected, then you should read this one.
Been looking forward to this book ever since I first heard about it. Dark MC by Anne? YES PLEASE!!! She writes both fantastically (definitely reccomend), so knew this book would be epic.
The book starts of slow, lulling you into a false sense of security, but I know how evil this author can be, so don’t let it fool you. The way the beginning is written makes me wonder if the heroine is based around herself, which intrigues me more, and makes me wonder how this is going to turn out.
Like all other books by this author the detailing is so descriptive you feel like you are right there beside the characters, or even the heroine herself. Anne’s words are always magical and this book is no different. She normally always writes strong and sassy female characters but the bluntness of M is taken to a whole new utterly inspiring level.
Although with the series title I expected more bikes within the story and was slightly disappointed as the author writes brillant MC, S’s dark and broody nature veiled in dark secrets more than makes up for it. Throw in the bar tender and I was more than hooked.
This book will have you thinking and finding a lot relatable. The world may be a scary place at this present point in time, but nothing is scarier than the inside of your own head. Own and talk about your demons to someone, it helps lighten the load and takes away some of their power, even for a moment.
Although I thought more could of been said about the main villain of the story when that plot thread was tied up, the book was still an enjoyable distracting must read that will satisfy most readers of different tastes.
Splinters of You was unlike anything I’ve ever read… mysterious, gritty, twisted, dark & not romance centered at all && It was just everything. Reading this book was such a unique experience. Unlike anything Anne Malcom has ever written but her sarcasm, sass & one of kind writing style are all still there…. just darker. A one of a kind read full of serial killers, secrets, crazed fans, anti-heros, MC drama and the twisted uniqueness that is Magnolia Grace & Saint.
“Our monsters played well together”
I’m obsessed with this new series… & this new dark book world that Anne Malcom has created is a place that I cannot wait to visit again.
Splinters of You was my first book by this author. I had no idea of her way of writing when I jumped into this.
That being said, I will now add that I was blown away by Splinters of You. The heroine is cold, distant, egoistic, and yet she’s real. For a few seconds I though about how am I going to love her, but I fell for her so fast. She’s wealthy, a little snoby, but not to your face, she never asks for help, she never gets into panic mode, and she’s always her true self. I will admit – she’s everything I wish to be. She’s thinking about herself. Period.
As the blurb reveals, Magnolia is a horror writer. In order to write a good book, she moves into a cabin in which a serial killer butchered a woman. She hopes for a good story and soon enough she founds herself a muze in a shape of a he.
Even then this book is not your tipical romance book. And even if this is a MC series, do not expect a gang of MC brothers. But you will get your fill, no doubt.
The writing is so good, the style of it, the words Anne uses. She makes it seem like every word matters. And I, I think it does.
Absolutely addictive!
I have read Anne Malcom since she first published her first book and have loved watching her evolve and watching her writing style change. To see her branch out and write a story that is completely out of her comfort zone is amazing. This book is completely different from what Anne typically writes and it had me hooked from page one.
This is not a love story, there are no unicorns and ponies, there is no love at first sight, no instant love between the two characters. This story is a mystery story, that flows with suspense, grit, danger and darkness. Once Anne has you sucked in with that, she weaves a love story in there as well.
This is Magnolias and Saints Story. I’m not going to detail who these characters are, I simply could not do them justice. You need to read the book to find out how great these characters are.
Be warned, this is not for a person wanting flowers and accolades of love. This book is perfect for the person wanting some angst, wanting some struggle, wanting some darkness. If you crave angst, darkness, suspense or grit with a little bit of love mixed in, then this is the book you should read.
Splinters of you by Anne Malcom is the first book in a new series called the Retired Sinners MC. This book is told by the heroine’s point of view.
