Words are my weapon.
Stories wrap around my soul, choking me, capturing you.
I don’t work in dreams.
I don’t offer escapes.
I cage you within my nightmares.
Magnolia Grace is a horror writer, despite what the name might suggest.
One of the best in the business, if you asked around.
Pressure comes with that title. Expectation for the next nightmare. The next bestseller.
Sickness.
That’s what it … next bestseller.
Sickness.
That’s what it is.
She can’t be healthy. Because that means she won’t write.
And she hasn’t been writing.
A looming deadline and a crumbling psyche drive her into the woods. To a cabin which was the site of a grizzly murder.
A serial killer, butchering women, toying with her.
Her plan is to borrow some of the horror that seeped into the soil.
But hers follows her.
The woods are meant to be her escape. But they are almost her demise.
Almost.
He was an unlikely saviour. An unlikely muse. He has horrors of his own. A motorcycle club looking to settle a score. A soul too broken to offer her anything but pain.

This is a wonderful new story from Author Anne Malcolm. The story is dark, gritty and full of her unique style of writing. This is not a typical MC story, its dark and mysterious and pulls you in from the very beginning. If you are a fan of angst, suspense with a little bit of romance thrown in too then this is the book for you . You will really like Magnolia and Saint. Top 10 read this year.
I knew before I started this book that it wasn’t going to be like the other books by Ms Malcom that I’d read. I don’t know what i was expecting but it wasn’t this. Everything about this book was a surprise. From the story to the characters, none of it was expected.
I struggled with the main character for the majority of the book. I knew there had to be a reason she was the way she was and I put my trust in the author to hopefully change my mind. She’s not an easy person to like, she’s rude, selfish, cold, she doesn’t care if she hurts your feelings. She really rubbed me up the wrong way…until she didn’t. I’m never going to love this character but I begrudgingly admit she’s got my respect. She pulls no punches, she’s no ones victim and she’s not ashamed or embarrassed of how she comes across. So if you’re like me and you’re not a fan of hers at first, I urge you to keep going. It’s so worth it. Once I’d got a third of the way through this book, I was hooked. You couldn’t have paid me to put this book down.
I’ve tried to keep this as vague as possible because part of the enjoyment I got from reading this was having no idea whatsoever what was coming next. This isn’t Anne Malcoms usual book, it’s got a completely different vibe to it and I really liked that. I like the unexpected and this book definitely delivered that.
WHAT AN EPIC READ! Deciding to make changes to get back to herself and her writing, Magnolia uproots her life from NYC and moves to small-town Washington into a home that will hopefully help spark her writing back. Once there, she remembers why she loathes small-towns, but also decides to venture into what happened to the home’s previous owner who was found murdered. Along the way, she makes friends with some locals, where she only had one friend back in NYC, and also sparks a love interest with Saint, a “retired” MC guy. The evolution of Magnolia was a wild ride – we really get to understand her as a character and why she acts and thinks the way she does. The complexity of her character is what really sold me on this book. As a fan of Anne’s MC books, I was interested in how she incorporated the MC aspect in this one and was surprised at how it panned out. Without giving anything away – do yourself a favor and read this book! It’s dark, complex, and absolutely everything I wanted in a book that I didn’t know I wanted or needed. I’m interested to see if we get another book in this “book universe” with Magnolia’s best friend Katy – here’s to hoping!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The synopsis really piqued my curiosity in the best of ways and from that point on I couldn’t wait to for this book! I’ve also been wanting to pick up more of Ms.Malcom’s books this year and I’m so happy that I got the chance to with Splinters of You!
Magnolia’s journey is unique from beginning to end! I could picture all of it so vividly. I couldn’t get enough of how addictive her story was. It brought out my emotions in ways I didn’t expect which I loved.
With Splinters of You, Ms.Malcom has created an original and unputdownable read! Her words reach deep down into your chest and make you feel it all! I’m still thinking about this book!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Dark, twisted and unique, this story is unlike anything I’ve read from this author. The suspense will keep you hanging for more. I don’t know how else to describe it without giving stuff away, so you’ll just have to check it out for yourself!
Anne Malcom has a perverse and completely maddening talent as an author.
Her skin bleeds all over us in her stories, but this one is like drowning and being able to see the light just a few inches over your head. She tackles us with non-emotional emotions. She drives us to the brink of destruction, and then gives us another little nudge.
This author is terrifying in her development of a story (and thank the heavens, series) as she will NOT let us even guess in which direction she will take us.
What is a higher order thinking word for unique? Whatever it is, Anne has it.
I recommend this book. Not because you love romance and HEA’s, but because sometimes you just need to crawl in the murk, travel through the dark forest, and still question if you will make it out safely.
This is not your typical love story but it’s an amazing one nonetheless. I can’t want to see what this author has on store for us next.
Completely blown away!! I’m really kicking myself that I haven’t read any books by this author until now. From what little I’d read about this one I had a feeling it was going to be good but it exceeded my expectations by miles. It was dark, depraved, and twisted…..all the things I love in a story like this one. The twists & turns made it impossible to put down.
HOLY CRAP! This book was so much more than 5 stars. It was dark, beautiful and brilliant. This author fast became a favorite of mine and I can’t stop reading anything she writes but this blow me away. It is a total must read.
If you thought Anne Malcom had found her darkness with Birds Of Paradise, think again.
With Splinters Of You she hasn’t just embraced the dark, she’s drawn herself a bath of blood and evil and bathed in it until it’s permeated her pores!
This story is nothing short of the wicked brilliance.
Look up “dark” in the Thesaurus. You’ll see sinister, vile, atrocious, foul, damnable, sinful…check, check, check, check and check! This book is all that and heinously more!
And my dark little soul absolutely LOVED IT!!!
Magnolia Grace is a monster. A monster of the literary world and in so many other delicious ways.
A preeminent author of horror, she’s accomplished, confident, ruthless…but currently wordless and in need of inspiration with a deadline looming.
So she takes herself off to a cabin in the woods that was the host of a grisly murder to get her own ghastly creative juices flowing, and she’s seeking to spice those up by sucking any evil that lurks in the lives locals she can find.
She just didn’t count on them sucking anything vaguely resembling “emotions” from her!
This is nothing like Anne’s previous works, it’s so, so much more murky violent and unforgiving.
Magnolia is such a wonderful character; the perfect anti-heroine and now my favourite female character of any story I have read EVER!! She’s just so awful, I love her!
And though there’s a romantic element to this story and so despite her love interest in this one being a sensational damnable character in his own right, it’s the immersion into the mind of true monsters that’s the core of this story and it’s an edge of your seat, nail biting page turner, that will have you leaving the light on and checking the shadows.
Don’t think about this one, just one-click it, read it, live it and survive it!
You might be scared, but you won’t be sorry!!
She Did it Again
Ever since I fell in love with reading, I am on the search for that certain book. You know the book. Hell, all readers know the book. It is the Unicorn book, as a reader, it is akin to the holy trifecta. This author has given me a couple of them but this book right here? Yeah, this book just hit that special coveted spot for me. There is magic in the way that this author writes. Sure, I can say that about quite a few writers, because I do have several, but in all fairness, I read a CRAZY amount and have had years fine-tuning what I like. So when I find an author, like this one, that can make perceptions change all through the use of her words and how she crafts a sentence, then I am ALL about it. This book is hands down one of, if not the best book that she has written in my opinion.
It is different than anything that I have read of hers. Many call it dark. However, it is not dark in the way that one thinks in regards to dark, especially when it comes to romance. It is more like a Stephen King type of dark. It doesn’t mince words or make things pretty. It also doesn’t elaborate on a lot of the details if that makes sense. It is concise but also descriptive, almost Hemingway like in what it does say and the power behind what is written. These characters are beyond sublime. Magnolia, is similar but also not, to I would say Isla (Vein series) or Charlotte (Doyenne), in regards to their take no crap attitude or in their fierceness. However, Mags was even different. She truly didn’t care what others thought. She was selfish and brash but she was upfront about it. It was not a facade or a mask, it was written into the very template of who she was. I respected the hell out of her for it. Saint. This guy. For a man of few words, he sure made a statement in the words he said and the body language that he exuded. Both of these characters made me think about the things they said and why they said them. There was truth to their words which at times sucked to have it have to be put in that perspective to truly appreciate it. However, there was something liberating in that depiction as well. As much as I liked these characters, and trust me when I say I liked Saint A WHOLE LOT, it was the story itself and the mystery and suspense of it that kept me captivated. I needed to know the why and the how of it. Moreover, in the end, I needed to know how all these fragments fit together because this author always has a million little facts scattered around that don’t seem important at first only later I come to have that “wha?” moment when it all magically makes sense.
I wouldn’t call this a romance per se, but I also wouldn’t call it not one. Instead, I will say that the romance that was there was more a blending of kindred spirits that just happened to happen while the story was going on. The romance was not the focal part of the story in any way shape or form.
All I can say is that this book is gritty and intense. It is brilliant and one I will think about for a very long time. Even amidst the craziness of the world in which is happening all around us right now, it is books like this one, that offer me solace because they touch a part of my soul. Well done to this author.
This book is like nothing I’ve read in a very very long time. It’s more suspense story then anything but every part of it was written flawlessly. Magnolia is a horror writer who writes so well cause she is a damaged soul and draws from her inner turmoil but she owns who she is with apologies and I loved that about her. You need to go into this book completely blind to enjoy it best in my opinion
This book isn’t like anything else this author has written. It’s dark. Definitely twisted. Mysterious. Wicked. Suspenseful. There is no redemption, so don’t hold your breath. It’s shocking, fascinating and just plain incredible.
I love the push/pull between Magnolia and Saint. They both not only own, but embrace their depravity. She’s a woman who shatters stereotypes. She knows what she wants, how to get it and doesn’t let anything stand in her way…except maybe herself on occasion. Saint isn’t your typical dark alpha, in fact there is nothing typical about him which makes me like him even more.
This book isn’t just one thing. It is layered with hints of romance, a whodunit, and so much. I loved how the author had the character, Magnolia Grace, stuck on Stephen King. The character drew so much life into her books because of the people she came across, the life experiences she had, and the books she read for her own peace of mind.
Each character in this story was important. None were used for filler. I wished I had friends like Katy and Margot. Everyone needs some to kick your ass. Set you straight and be honest without any type of bullshit.
I fell so hard for Saint. He wasn’t the hero of the story. Magnolia didn’t need one. She didn’t need the white knight. She understood herself and the horrors life threw at ya. Magnolia took everything in stride. She was such a strong, feisty character. I didn’t roll my eyes at her antics. Saint and Magnolia weren’t everyday normal couple. Their story and this book in general won’t be all hearts and flowers. Saint and Magnolia understood what it means to be splintered.
I’ve read all of Anne’s books. This one is definitely unique. It’s very odd, in a good way, but odd. It’s wrong and it’s dirty. But it’s so real. Magnolia is so real to me. Out of all the characters I’ve read, I related to her more than anyone. She is morbidly funny. I found her highly entertaining.
Splinters of You really kept me on my toes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you’re looking for something dark and different, this is the book for you.
I have been a fan of Anne’s writing style since the sons of templar series. Splinters of You is unlike anything I have read from her and I freaking loved it. She is such a good author, one that switches things up. I just love her mind.
In Splinters of You we get to read a more gritty, darkly twisted read that has mystery and a with what did I just read vibe. This was unlike anything I really had read before not just something from Anne.
I do not want to give away any plots, or any of the twists. I want you to read it fresh, not knowing what to expect going in. This will give you all the moments fresh that make this story so good.
So my advice is curve out some time that you can read this without any interruptions. Sit back, you may need a drink or two, and read this dark read about Magnolia and Saint. Just keep in mind that Splinters Of You still has Anne’s snarky attitude, quick wit and sarcasm but now it is darker. Seriously for all of Anne’s fans, this is definitely not one to miss. I cannot wait for more in this series.
Fantastically dark
I’m ashamed to say when I first started reading this book I told my hubby I can’t read it at night because it had a serial killer in it! Suffice to say in order to get it read because I was behind schedule, I continued reading that night. Man this book is amazing and yes different to anything else Anne has produced. I’d say it has a similar feel to SOT and Doyenne but a bit darker but just a shade
Death, mayhem and some violence are all themes running throughout this book but also intelligence and snarkI loved Magnolia’s character and how she’s perceived by everyone and yes, the sexy Saint gave her a run for her money A definite must read book for 2020
I certainly hope there is more coming in this series as I can certainly see a few more books in this series and I’m super excited to see what journey Anne takes us on I received an advanced copy and I willingly leave my honest review
5 DARK OMG STARS!! Anne Malcolm is a BRILLIANT AUTHOR….her words were so detailed, they transported me into the Magnolia story. I could feel every emotion from these characters. I was right there with them and could not breathe through there book. This book is so dark, you feel there tortured souls, with lots of OMG moments, but it is also beautiful in a different way. This will by far go down as one of my FAVORITE BOOKS EVER.
This book was absolutely amazing and I couldn’t put it down. It has you hooked from to he first page until the last page and leaves you wanting more amazingness from anne. Everyone should read this book
This standalone book to me is a complete series, in one brutal suspense filled horror stories, of the lives around a small town murder, and the towns people that now live there.
Magnolia Grace is a author who loves to write suspense filled horror stories and the monsters behind them.
Deciding to leave the city life of New York behind and buy the cottage in a small town of a recently murdered woman so to emerge her life around the death and marcabe that fuels her writing. What Magnolia wasn’t expecting was for her life to become what she loves to write albout. The monsters that live in the shadows.
The dark dangerous brooding neighbour Saint.
The mysterious Deacon ex-marine who owns the local bar.
The equally sharp tounged local artist Margot who seems to know everyone in town and most of their secrets.
Ernie the petrol station father figure that sees past the nasty persona that Magnolia presents.
Katy the surgeon and her one and only friend back in New York
This is an epic read about hidden secrets, a serial killer, mysterious and dangerous townsfolk and the writer who needs to breathe and escape to reveal in the darkness.
Magnolia brings her innerstrengh and confidence to live her life as she wants.
Surrounded by death burried in secrets. Living her best life as her true self.
I thoughly enjoyed reading this story and hope that more stories can be told. Highly recommended read. You won’t be disappointed
