It was a pleasure to return to these characters. I’m including New Orleans as one of the characters. The plot hangs together well thru the many twists and turns.
Audiobook review: Love this series. Plenty of action, mystery, friendship, and family to keep you entertained! The narrator did a fantastic job!
This book was fast-paced and exciting. I loved how it featured Pyper’s long lost brother. It really helped him develop as a character and how his relationship continues to get stronger with Pyper as well. The fact that Julius is absent for much of the book started to wear on me though. I can appreciate how Pyper is a strong and independent woman who’s intelligent & powerful enough to solve mysteries without him coming in to save the day, but I wish there was some equality in their sleuthing. I can see how they could be a powerhouse couple, but they’re always pulled in separate directions. The end of the mystery was unexpected and thrilling. I couldn’t wait to dive in to the final book in the series.
I enjoyed it, love the characters and how they protect each other and when someone new enters the scene they are quick to welcome them.
Good mystery. None of the witches I know crackle
Fun entertaining… Love Deanna Chase!
In Spirits, Diamonds, and a Drive-Thru Daiquiri Stand, Deanna Chase is moving her readers closer to Pyper and Julius’s wedding day, but nothing in Chase’s New Orleans ever goes smoothly. Pyper’s newly discovered younger brother, Bo, calls her in a panic after he and his friend Reagan become trapped in Reagan’s apartment. Pyper and Jade rush to the scene, only to discover that a murder has occurred in the building that has all the hallmarks of an old curse. And the police seem to think Bo and Reagan might have had something to do with the murder. As Pyper and Jade work to figure out the curse, they learn disturbing information about the victim that involves one of Reagan’s friends. Meanwhile, Bo is trying to balance his growing feelings for Reagan and his demanding girlfriend. But the situation takes a definite turn for the worse when it becomes apparent that Bo is now the target of the curse. Pyper has her hands full trying to protect her brother’s physical safety, guide him through teenage-romance drama, and plan her own wedding.
This book picks up pretty much where the last Jade book left off, so I feel readers should be caught up on the Jade series before picking up this book. Of course, I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to read both series! This book really shows how much Pyper has grown since we first met her at the beginning of the Jade series. Back then, Pyper was close to Kane, but that was pretty much it. Now her family has expanded to include Julius, Bo, Jade, and others. It’s very enjoyable watching Pyper realize that she isn’t alone in the world anymore. Ms. Chase did an excellent job of depicting Pyper’s emotions in this book. A particularly touching aspect of this book deals with Kane’s insistence on helping Pyper pay for her wedding; it really shows the bond that exists between them and how important that bond has been to Pyper’s growth.
As usual, the plot line in this book is compelling and keeps the reader engaged throughout the whole book. The curse story was well developed and had an interesting twist that really tied the whole story together. I was thrilled to see Ida Mae again. She always adds a burst of humor that keeps me smiling. I also really enjoyed the new character Reagan. I hope she becomes a permanent part of Pyper’s world. Her budding relationship with Bo is so sweet and highlights Bo’s inherent goodness. But Reagan’s relationship with Pyper is also fascinating and is reminiscent of Pyper’s relationship with Kane.
Deanna Chase fans will love this new book, and I personally can’t wait for the next books so that we can see Pyper and Julius get married and begin a whole new adventure.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Love her books
This book literally is my favorite book by far in either both the Jade Calhoun or Pyper Rayne series. Pyper is a great character, and in this fourth installment in the series, she has her hands full with her teenage brother and his friend, as well as planning a wedding. I just love the interactions between the characters as they are so life-like and true to how real people would act. And, the mystery was interesting and fun, too. Just the way Ms. Chase’s book are: great fun, great characters, and great plot! And, to be totally honest, I literally cried tears at the end of the book. It was just so touching. I hope they can achieve what they were setting out to do at the very end. I know that sounded really vague, but I have to sound that way or I’ll spoil the end, and I hate spoilers. If you love this series, you will love this latest; like I said before, it’s the best so far! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
