Just started this book and so far so good. I hope it continues to be upbeat.
City girl adapting to the West, ghost adds whimsy, characters well defined, the negative to me was the repetitive facts therefore could have been shorter.
Georgina Witherspoon is from New York and comes from a rich family that has servants. She finds out that her grandmother is “ill” and wants to head west to go help her aunt and Grandmother out. Life in the New Mexico Territory is different than she expected but she has always wanted adventure. She is trying to embrace everything that is the western culture. She has several culture shocks along the way but grows to love everything about it.
Ash Barrett is the sheriff in Picacho Wells in the New Mexico Territory where Georgina’s family lives. He has an issue with Georgina from the start because she is a big city girl and reminds him of his dead wife Phoebe. All though Georgina is really nothing like his wife and it takes him ages to see it.
Georgina’s grandmother is not insane like everyone thinks. She is very high spirited though which is against polite society that they were all raised in. Devlin her lover of 25 years died and now is haunting her and everyone he sees fit to show himself too.
I liked the writing style. The ghost made me laugh several times. I know the characters were written well enough that I wanted to slap both of the bankers silly. I loved how one tells her the other is going to try to do something bad to her but he had already tried that himself. I just wanted to hug her poor aunt. I will definitely have to check out the other books in the series because it was good for a laugh and a good romance.

This was a tough read for me. It was slow going and did not keep me engaged. Ash was an opinionated, overbearing jerk for most of the book and then suddenly Georgia decides he’s wonderful, but then hates him again. I felt like instead of slowly realizing they loved each other, it was very back and forth between love and hate. To the point where it was annoying for myself as a reader. The ghost of the story was a hard sell as well. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This has to be one of the most hilarious books I have read for a while. Georgina’s parents express their obvious disenchantment with Grandmother Maybelle, but her plight calls to Georgina and she persuades her parents to allow her to cross the country in order to go and assist her aunt and ailing grandmother. As it turns out, her crotchety grandmother doesn’t need that much help, but Georgina is entranced with the territories, where life is hard but fulfilling. Meeting a real-life sheriff is not at all what she expected, and as the two lock horns, Ash alternately frustrates Georgina and entices her. Ash has been married once and has no intention of repeating the experience. He is therefore surprised at the possessive feelings he has for Georgina. When two other suitors show their faces, Ash has a hard time controlling his temper. Throw in a stubborn Grandmother and a reprobate ghost, this novel had me laughing out loud from beginning to end. It is well written and entertaining, with memorable characters that kept me in stitches. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
While I usually don’t bother with “ghost” stories, I thought I’d give this one a try. It was a cute story, but to tell you the truth, the whole “ghost” part could be eliminated and I would still have liked the story. Georgina Witherspoon travels from New York City to the New Mexico Territory to help her aunt take care of her crazy grandmother (neither of whom she has ever met). Sheriff Ash Barrett is an unexpected complication as well as a boon to her visit. They don’t get along at all, but at the same time are drawn to each other. Sparks fly!
