Perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo, Spindle Fire is an enthralling, wholly original reimagining of a classic faerie story.
Half sisters Isabelle and Aurora are polar opposites: Isabelle is the king’s headstrong illegitimate daughter, whose sight was tithed by faeries; Aurora, beautiful and sheltered, was tithed her sense of touch and voice on the same day. Despite their … their differences, the sisters have always been extremely close.
And then everything changes, with a single drop of Aurora’s blood, a Faerie Queen who is preparing for war, a strange and enchanting dream realm—and a sleep so deep it cannot be broken.
Spindle Fire is a tour-de-force fantasy set in the dwindling, deliciously corrupt world of the fae and featuring two truly unforgettable heroines, from a writer destined to be a major voice in YA.

This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty – but, actually better. It’s different than anything Aurora you’ve read before.
I liked the two strong women who are two half-sisters and trying to live in a world where they have to look out for each other and be independent. One is blind, and the other can’t speak or feel.
There is magic and fae, other worlds, powerful dueling queens, human royalty, and a sad past.
**There is a little romance, but it is not what the book is about. Mild kissing, a few bad words, and violence.
I haven’t read a Sleeping Beauty retelling yet so I had to snag this duology. It’s been on my shelf for a bit and I finally grabbed it to read…and I’m glad I did.
I loved the fast-paced and rhythmic writing and especially the story of Aurora and her sister Isabelle. Their sisterly bond made me a tad jealous How Aurora came to be cursed made for a fun twist on the original story. I also enjoyed the story of the fae sisters, Malfleur and Belcouer. If you enjoy fairy tales and retellings this is a good one to add to your list. Will be reading the 2nd one soon.
This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Overall, I liked this book but the story was too slow for me. The writing is absolutely beautiful; the author knows how to spin lovely words with just the right cadence. I just wanted more pounding action. 🙂 I also listened to the audiobook concurrently and really loved the narrator. She had a wonderful voice for the characters.
I would have given it two stars because I felt like the plot took more than half the book to finally get going and then the last 50 paged we’re finally exciting and intriguing. The character development took forever as well-I like Isabelle much more than Aurora. I’ll read the sequel and hope it’s much better
When I saw the premise of the book I was really fascinated. And the book actually reminds me of Sleeping Beauty and even the name of the one of the princess is Aurora. I was really excited and not too much I am a big fan of anything fae or fairies. The book itself does paint the magical world of the Kingdom that two princesses live and also the world that is created within Aurora’s dreamworld.Though do wish the book did go in further with the world building and showed more magical elements.
I also felt like the characters as well. I think the bond between the two sisters despite their differences was relatable since I also have a sister. So that made it intriguing to me. I also like the character Isabelle for the fact she willing to go to wide lengths to get to her sister despite not being able to see. But I will admit there were times where she did irritate me and at times she can be a bit naive especially when it comes to how to break the curse. As for her other sister Aurora I wasn’t really a fan and feel like she could have been developed more throughout the story and felt like she didn’t explain many things.
There was also some other flaws in the story from the fact that I felt lost at certain times. I also had more questions and book had some plot holes that made me confused on how many stories this book had. This doesn’t mean I hope in the next book more question will be answered and there would be more development.
Overall, I think the book had an interesting concept and I liked the authors take on this world. I also think the book has potential to go from an ok book to a more better story as it goes on. I do think some of the characters could be more worked on and be a little more relatable
