Going through my GR lists recommending first books of series that I love. I got hooked on Estep’s writing with her YA Mythos Academy series so it was no brainer to check Spider’s Bite out. Gin is such an original character. I love the facets of her magic and her deadly skill as an assassin. Also the criminal underbelly of this city.
Spider’s Bite is book one in the Elemental Assassin series by Jennifer Estep.
Well Dang! I should have picked up this seres sooner. I was entranced by the first page and couldn’t put Spider’s Bite down. I devoured the book. That opening scene, WOW.
Spider’s Bite starts with a thrilling ride and doesn’t let up. Their are so many twists and …
I LOVED Gin’s vibe and can’t wait to go on more murderous escapades with her soon. When she was in her Spider assassin persona she was amazing. Cool under pressure, but her inner commentary was so funny! I’m looking forward to seeing her use more of her elemental magic In future books. It was nice that Gin had the skills to kick-ass without …
Great series, I enjoyed the kicking ass and justice being served because they had it coming…wonderful characters and villains…story is excellent, even if you choose skipping the steamy parts…it would have been just as good with out it….
The Spider books just keep coming and they are all amazing. Read them, but start w/ the first one. You’ll come to know and love all the characters.
There is so much going on in this story! I got swept away. What an engaging read. I am intimidated by the list of books in the series, but will probably weaken soon and read the next one.
Interesting characters, good flow, will read sequel.
Gin is a Stone elemental that, as an assassin, goes by the name Spider. She’s a hitwoman that excels at her profession. When an unusual job request comes in, Gin and her handler have reservations, yet accept it nonetheless. Too late, they discover that it’s a double cross and people near and dear to Gin wind up either dead or seriously injured. …

A lot of fun! Strong female protagonist “Gin Blanco” lots of action, some sexual tension, a little sex, some witty banter.
Great world building, diverse and interesting characters set in a very different contemporary America. Magic, vampires, dwarves and giants are everyday people.
It grabbed my attention from the start, never a dull moment! …
Hands down, the best Urban Fantasy series out there. Gin Blanco is a nuanced, complex yet simple character with a clear credo: mess with my loved ones, I’ll pay you back in spades. She brutal, efficient and way, way, way deep down, soft. I find myself channeling the Spider’s patience daily. There’s romance, magic, violence, mystery all told in …
Kick ass heroine who runs a BBQ joint. Awesome sauce.
Fast-paced and good balance between action and romance. I liked Gin and all the talk about her cooking made me hungry!
Spider’s Bite is what you’d expect from an Urban Fantasy assassin’s tale. Crazy characters, powers, and a whole lot of gore. This book would have been five stars for me, except for the cringe-worthy, predatory attitude Gin has towards Donovan.

I have to admit that it did take some time for me to get into this book. I don’t know why, it was decently written, I just wasn’t connecting to the characters at all. By the end of the book, though, I was enjoying myself and engaged in the storyline. So all in all, a good read with an entertaining plot that keeps you going. I’ll continue this …
When I first started reading urban fantasy, one of the earliest series that pulled me into the genre was Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin books, featuring badass assassin Gin “The Spider” Blanco. After her family’s slaughter when Gin was thirteen, she lived on the streets until she was taken in by a man who raised her as his own and trained her …
Fantastic first book in an addictive series.
This series has been great reading!!!! Keeps you hooked from 1 book to the next!!!! Very enjoyable and a great way to relax!!!! Love the characters, they keep your interest as well!!!!
This was a good book, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. It was slightly off-beat; people dying or getting hurt before I knew them well enough to care. But the world was interesting and the story kept me entertained to the end, and through the long-winded aftermath too.
Gin is literally one of my all-time favorite assassins ever. I can’t get enough of Jennifer’s world with the Elemental Assassins series.
