Anne Hillerman, the talented daughter of bestselling author Tony Hillerman, continues his popular Leaphorn and Chee series with Spider Woman’s Daughter, a Navajo Country mystery, filled with captivating lore, startling suspense, bold new characters, vivid color, and rich Southwestern atmosphere.Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very … shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter.
Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key. Digging into the old investigation, husband and wife find themselves inching closer to the truth…and closer to a killer determined to prevent justice from taking its course.

As a fan of Hillerman books, I enjoyed the same characters
Have always enjoyed novels set in th Southwest and this didn’t disappoint. But the characters are all a bit of a cut-out—not much depth to them. Still it was entertaining.
I have read most of Tony Hillerman’s murder mysteries on the Najavo Nation Rez. I know many of the landmarks he wrote about, and I was excited to know his Daughter continued the saga. Though, noticeably she has her own style of writing ~ with a “girl’s” touch :).
She certainly stays true to her father’s style and characterizations. I enjoy these novels as a window into a culture I know so very little about and so find fascinating.
Beautiful picture of the American southwest and the Navajo culture.
I often have enjoyed the Tony Hillerman books about the Native Americans living in New Mexico/Arizona reservations in the past. I was intrigued to read my first Anne Hillerman book not realizing she had followed in her father’s footsteps continuing with the same characters as his books. Sometimes predictable, but always enjoyable, I continue to …
i did not connect the title with the book, but still a very good book, not unlike her dads’ books but still a little way to go. Good story.
I love anything Hillerman. I was a fan to Tony Hillerman and his daughter Anne has continued where he left off. If you enjoy Native American stories then you will love these.
her Dad would be proud of her storytelling and style
Anne has taken up the pen to continue the wonderful series started by her father. She doesn’t disappoint. This book is full of Native American lore, descriptions of the southwest and a page turning mystery. I always learn something new about native Smerican culture. I sincerely hope she continues the stories of Leaphorn, Chee & Officer Manuelito.
True to her fathers characters and style.
Ms. Holler man has taken on—and largely succeeded in taking on the challenge of continuing her father’s literary legacy. A terrific source of cultural education about the deep and wide Native American culture of the Four Corners region of the US, these novels always leave the reader with at least one thing to do further research on. Excellent read.
Anne is as talented as her father, Tony Hillerman.
I loved this book. I will read it again!
Anne Hillerman has continued her father’s tradition seamlessly. For fans of her father’s characters, this book continues to explore the changing landscape of friendships as individuals age while pursuing the solution of several crimes.
This is such a good read. She is truly her father’s daughter. She has come into a stye of her own for story telling. I recommend reading this book for the stories are wonderful to read.
A good read, although not as good as her previous books.
Every single book that either Hillerman has written is wonderful. They are all full of native american lore, breathtaking desriptions of the dessert, and wonderfully platted mysteries. Read them all
I like Anne Hillerman better than Tony. The woman’s point of view is obvious and appreciated. Detective Bernadette is great!
Mystery, lots of information on Navajo art and traditions, descriptive Arizona landscapes. Good characters..
