Anne Hillerman, the talented daughter of bestselling author Tony Hillerman, continues his popular Leaphorn and Chee series with Spider Woman’s Daughter, a Navajo Country mystery, filled with captivating lore, startling suspense, bold new characters, vivid color, and rich Southwestern atmosphere.Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very … shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter.
Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key. Digging into the old investigation, husband and wife find themselves inching closer to the truth…and closer to a killer determined to prevent justice from taking its course.

I was astounded to find that Tony Hillerman’s daughter had carried on his story line. This is an excellent book with the great characters one expects from a Hillerman classic.
Sometimes a bit wordy with the landscape descriptions. Not as clear writing as her father.
His his father daughter.
Have been a fan of Tony Hillerman and now Anne. Lived in 4 Corners area. Reading brings back many memories.
Amazing
I loved it! So glad to see these characters live after Tony Hillerman’s death. Seems his daughter has picked up the pen to carry on the story telling traditions of the American South native culture.
It was great to revisit characters created by Tony Hillerman, but the plot moved slowly, and it was way too easy to see what was coming.
I have read all of Tony Hillerman’s books and this book by his daughter is excellent and in many ways is better than his novels . It is also set in Indian territory and includes some characters that were key in his books.I highly recommend this book.Linda Hughes
Anne is ably filling her dad’s shoes. Love the continuing journey.
Great plot. Very well written.
Excellent plot without all the sec, swearing, and violence of most “cop” books. Thank you!
I worked with Navajos and found this to be entertaining and authentic! Really enjoyed it!
She may be trying to carry on the family tradition, but she isn’t up to the task. Her voice is close, but not quite right for any of the characters.
Tony Hillerman left some large boots to fill…
Anna Hillerman has seamlessly continued developing the characters her father, Tony, created, while painting intriguing pictures of the stark, beautiful landscape of the New Mexico desert country.
A successful continuation of the series originated by Tony Hillerman. Continues and advances character development, while remaining faithful to the tone and milieu of the earlier books.
Good sense of place.
Enjoyed it but it is different than her father’s writing.
Enjoyed the fact that the author is carrying on her fathers writings and using the same cast of characters. Seems to switch the focus to Bernadette and builds up the lead female characters role in this book
This book was better than I expected. Anne is of course Tony Hillerman’s daughter. I was curious to see how she would do following in her father’s footsteps and continuing the much loved Navajo Nation mysteries my dh and I love so much. Well, as I said, Anne did better than I thought. She captured the familiar characters such as Joe Leaphorn and …
So I wasn’t sure if I’d like this book after years of Tony Hillerman. Turns out, Anne Hillerman is terrific. I was hooked by page 3 and have read every book in the series to date. I like that the police couple who are the main protagonists get equal time in the story and that as it is in many American Indian families, family is just as sacred as …
