Anne Hillerman, the talented daughter of bestselling author Tony Hillerman, continues his popular Leaphorn and Chee series with Spider Woman’s Daughter, a Navajo Country mystery, filled with captivating lore, startling suspense, bold new characters, vivid color, and rich Southwestern atmosphere.Navajo Nation Police Officer Bernadette Manualito witnesses the cold-blooded shooting of someone very … shooting of someone very close to her. With the victim fighting for his life, the entire squad and the local FBI office are hell-bent on catching the gunman. Bernie, too, wants in on the investigation, despite regulations forbidding eyewitness involvement. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to sit idly by, especially when her husband, Sergeant Jim Chee, is in charge of finding the shooter.
Bernie and Chee discover that a cold case involving his former boss and partner, retired Inspector Joe Leaphorn, may hold the key. Digging into the old investigation, husband and wife find themselves inching closer to the truth…and closer to a killer determined to prevent justice from taking its course.

First in a series with characters from her father Tony Hillerman’s books. Very enjoyable, very readable and like a visit from old friends.
I love Tony Hillerman and was sad when he died. I was happy to hear his daughter Anne was continuing with his Navajo series. This is her first book. I love Tony Hillerman’s characters: Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Bernadette Manuelito. In Tony’s last book Chee and Manuelito were in love. In Spider Woman’s Daughter, they’re married. I love the …
It helped describe many of the White bad actions against Native Americans! I
Was helped to see their culture and actions realistic of Native Americans. I also think these stories can be written or told by either of the two Hillerman’s. I’m pleased to see Ann Hillerman’s name now following that of her father telling by writing these stories just …
Solid mystery
Unlike many series that are continued by another writer after an author’s death (e.g. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), this one is done beautifully. It is wonderful to continue to enjoy the setting and characters created by Tony Hillerman. Being Hillerman’ daughter certainly helps in that Anne, is totally familiar with the area and characters …
Loved it!
I loved her dad’s books and am delighted to find she is doing a good job of carrying on the great characters. Thank you. linda
After reading all of Tony Hillerman’s books, I didn’t think anyone else could do justice to the Navajo Police story line. Anne Hillerman is a worthy successor and captures the real Southwest and the same characters as Tony with the same realisim.
I enjoyed this book very. Loved the authentic info on the SW locations and historical data along with fictional characters and story. Kept my interest from beginning to end. She is a chip off her fathers shoulder and I will continue reading her books
Am glad that Anne Hillerman is continuing her father’s series. Her writing is even more descriptive, and I’m enjoying how she is developing the character Manuelita. I continue to enjoy learning about the Navajo beliefs and life. Spider Woman’s Daughter is one of my favorites.
So nice to see an author following in a parent’s footstep actually being as good as the parent.
Love all his books. Good writer.
Anne Hillerman continues is her father’s footsteps to write great books about the Navajo tribe.
This reader is so grateful that Ann Hillerman has carried forward the stories of beloved characters, Joe Leaphorn, and Jim and Bernadette Chee, and the fascinating culture of the four corners area of the southwest.
Hillerman’s write great stories
Reminiscent of her fathers work, I totally enjoyed this book and am looking forward to her other books!
Ann Hillerman has taken over a great series with great charaters. I have read them all. Very enjoyable and gives a view of the southwest that us easterners wouldn’t see even if we went to visit. Keep writing Ann.
I am so glad Anne has continued her father’s series. I especially enjoy Bernadette Manuelito and her mother.
This was Meh. The only thing I found interesting was the native American cultural tidbits. I eventually just skimmed it to see if what I saw to be the obvious outcome was in fact the outcome. It was.
she is a quality heir to her father’s tradition and ability
