From the author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Congo comes a psychological thriller about a group of scientists who investigate a spaceship discovered on the ocean floor. In the middle of the South Pacific, a thousand feet below the surface, a huge vessel is unearthed. Rushed to the scene is a team of American scientists who descend together into the depths to investigate the astonishing … investigate the astonishing discovery. What they find defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship, but apparently it is undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old, containing a terrifying and destructive force that must be controlled at all costs.

I know, I know…a science fiction book by Michael Crichton sounds weird. The dinosaur man from Jurassic park branches out to write a book about aliens. Maybe not his first, but the first one I’ve read.
Sooooo, it was good…I’d say better than good! Really enjoyed how the characters evolved and morphed into, well, who knows what they were. Norman …
Great book, couldn’t put it down.
Not at all his best work. A UFO is discovered that is at least 300 years old. It turns out to be made in the USA. Time travel. There is a mysterious sphere inside the ship which allows peoples subconscious fears to be physically manifested. Good research, fair characters, ho-hum ending. I think he became bored with this one. Okay reading for when …
Good but unusual.
Forget the movie…that was a farcical joke compared to the depth and intensity of the book.
One of my favorites of his
This is another great book by Michael C. This book is about the journey. What would you do if received a powerful gift from the future? I saw the movie years ago and it left me feeling blah like something was missing. I was finally able to read the book and enjoyed the journey so much more now that I understood what was left out by Hollywood.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was full of suspense and the end was unpredictable.
Kept me engrossed with every page.
Book is better than the movie – of course!
Not the type of book I would normally read, but I got caught up in the situation at the bottom of the sea. It was quite different and interesting. Every time I thought I had things figured out, I didn’t. I enjoyed this book.
Weird! Well written but strange!
Not my favourite from Crichton – one of my favourite authors – but thought-provoking, nonetheless.
That rare combination of a popular style thriller, and a profound spiritual and psychological theme, about projecting and manifesting the reality we imagine.

This is one of his best
Too long
Very original sci-fi tale. Realistic basis.
Great book, I looked forward to reading it every evening!
Good story. I felt like the author drug the ending out a bit long. It was kind of anti climatic in the end.
