From the author of Jurassic Park, Timeline, and Congo comes a psychological thriller about a group of scientists who investigate a spaceship discovered on the ocean floor. In the middle of the South Pacific, a thousand feet below the surface, a huge vessel is unearthed. Rushed to the scene is a team of American scientists who descend together into the depths to investigate the astonishing … investigate the astonishing discovery. What they find defies their imaginations and mocks their attempts at logical explanation. It is a spaceship, but apparently it is undamaged by its fall from the sky. And, most startling, it appears to be at least three hundred years old, containing a terrifying and destructive force that must be controlled at all costs.

Much ado about nothing.
Really keeps you guessing about what is really going on
While it maintained my interest it reminded me of other similar stories.
Even the worst of Michael Crichton books are interesting and worth reading. This one, however, Is the least reality and science-based of all. There is one mystery for the reader to solve, but this is the weakest of all his writings.
An intriguing story as all Michael Crichton books were. I like the idea of the team assembling for something they signed up for but never really expected to happen.
When I teach writing, I do use this book as an example where I feel the author painted himself into a corner at the end that he couldn’t solve– other than by simply wiping everything …
Horrible ending
Sphere was a phenomenal read. It kept me fully engaged, and as always, Crichton’s sci-fi is enough sci to be realistic and creepy.
Awesome book. Great story and fantastic characters, a must-read in the science fiction genre.
I read it first as a teen 20+ years ago and it terrified me (and got me interested in reading). Reading again now, I see the flaws and forumalaic / contrived plot. But it’s still a fun read and good as an example for fledgling authors.
To me, an escalating series of monsters or multiple monsters is far less scary than a story that builds up to …
Very different story.
Not one of my favorite Crichton but still entertaining.
great
Michael Crichton is my favourite author – Sphere is highly recommended: once again the author’s magical story telling ability draws you in and makes the story come alive, the characters are wonderful and by the end of the Book you feel disappointed that your new friends aren’t around anymore! At his passing we lost a masterful story teller who …
Great read
Beyond fab
Such an incredible psychological and scientific adventure! Amazing plot with great twists and detailed science behind it. From black holes to the power of the human imagination, Crichton explores the depth of possibility. Highly recommend for those who like psychological exploration and science fiction!
