From New York Times Bestselling Author, Kristen Proby, comes Spells, the next installment in her gripping Bayou Magic series… control.
Like the powerful and broody warlock who’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—and even the lifetimes I often can’t. Things almost as dangerous as Lucien Bergeron’s hold on me and the breathtaking smiles only I get to see.
Or the evil still stalking the streets of New Orleans that beckons to me to see. To feel. To die.
With everything riding on a razors-edge, and things that have been portended coming to fruition, threatening both me and those I love, I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to resist my fate. Or his charm.
If I work with Lucien, it could mean the end for both of us.
If I don’t, those I love most will pay.

I was so excited for this book and I was not disappointed! Lucien and Millie’s story was so worth the wait! I could not put this book down! I did not really see that twist coming and it was perfect! I cannot wait for the last installment of this series! FIVE STARS!!
I completely devoured this book and Millie and Lucien’s story is just amazing.
The second Bayou Magic book focuses on many of the themes and includes the same people as the first book, but you get Lucien as part of the mix. He and Millie have known each other forever. Literally. And their souls continue to find each other but sadly death comes for one of them each time they’re together. This time, they are joining forces with Millie’s sister and others to try and defeat the evil spirits that are trying to tear them apart.
While the first book had the serial killer focused on Brielle, this one focuses on Lucien, as a way to get to Millie.
It’s the second in the series, and I only wish that the third was coming sooner. It’s going to be a long wait for the finale and the showdown of “the six.”
Thank you Valentine PR and Kristen Proby for a complimentary copy. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Spells
Bayou Magic #2
By: Kristen Proby
REVIEW
I loved Shadows, so it was no surprise that I equally enjoyed Spells, the second book in Kristen Proby’s Bayou Magic series. And, now, I have freaking CCR ( love them!) “Born On The Bayou” stuck in my head!
Three witch sisters. Three different stories with commonalities. This book is the story of Lucien and Millie. Lucien is a warlock. Millie dabbles in coffee. Lol! Spells is intriguing in that the main aspects of the story are so contradictory to each other. On one hand, a serial killer is running wild and free. On the other hand, there is an amazing and romantic love story for the ages. See what I mean? I don’t want to give anything away, so I won’t go into details. Suffice it to say, Lucien and Millie are involved in this situation.
The setting and the atmosphere of Spells is perfect with a gritty, dark, lurking in the shadows vibe. It feels gothic and Victorian and like a bit of southern folklore. Whatever you call it, it works. Lucien and Millie are characters I like individually and together. They are quirky, engaging, complex and likeable. More of their story would be great.
As paranormal stories go, Kristen Proby has created a compelling mystery with enchanting characters to root for–all in a magical place that beckons readers to come in, and stay for a spell. Or two. Pick up Spells today!
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this second installment to the Bayou Magic series. This one sticks to what Proby does best, romance. The romance between Lucien and Millie is front and center, and the paranormal and thriller elements move the plot along really nicely. They have such great chemistry and work really well together as a couple. This isn’t quite as dark and gruesome as the first book. It still has its moments but they aren’t quite as grisly. I really feel like the author has found her stride mixing romance and paranormal together and I can’t wait for the third book.
This follows Millie, owner of a local coffee shop and the only practicing witch of the three sisters that star in this series. They each have unique powers, but Millie is the only one who has really embraced her power and uses it regularly. After escaping a horrific childhood, and banishing the evil spirit of their father all seems well, but when strange things start to happen again the sisters fear that their evil father has returned to haunt them. Millie has always had feelings for Lucien, so it comes as no surprise when secrets about their mystical past come to light linking them together. They must work together if they want to defeat the evil once and for all, but each of the sisters must find her partner and close the circle before the prophecy can come to fruition.
I feel like romance readers and paranormal readers alike will enjoy this. I’m very much looking forward to the final installment to see how the fabled six finally come together and defeat the lurking evil. This series is really fun despite being a bit dark. I really like the characters and the magical aspects. If you need a spooky read for Halloween or anytime of year, pick this up!
A perfectly haunting page turner just in time for Halloween! When a centuries old evil makes an unexpected & gory reappearance in New Orleans, it will take all the mystical resources the Landry sisters & their loves can summon to defeat it. A horrifyingly depraved killer and a thousand year old love story set the tone for this scary yet romantic paranormal tale.
Favorite Quotes:
Why can’t we be a normal couple? … Just a normal, run-of-the-mill couple, who likes to have sex all the time and watch old eighties movies.
“I love you. No matter what you look like, or what you eat, I love you. I always have. So, eat your sweets. I don’t care.” “If I could find a way to clone and sell you, I could be richer than that dude who owns Amazon. You’re exactly the guy that every woman is looking for.”
My Review:
Paranormal is not my typical jam so I had to work a bit harder to keep up with this one. Groundhog Day hooked up with The Witches and Practical Magic in this complicated, intriguing, gruesome, creative, and eerie tale. While there was no naked dancing in the moonlight, Words of Power were spoken, spells were chanted, potions were brewed, covens convened, possessed souls were expelled, and amusing observations and an epic love story spanning a thousand years were woven in amongst several rather heinous murders.
But wait, the series isn’t done yet as there is still one sister to go and I’m not totally convinced the depraved villain was completely dispatched. I am thoroughly enamored with Lucien as he is the ultimate BBF – sexy, thoughtful, intelligent, romantic, highly skilled in every room, oh yes! And he can create snap his fingers and create fire, which is an exceptionally handy and convenient little trick, as I can never seem to find matches when I need them.
To say I have been excited for this book is an understatement. The witch in me was just beyond thrilled when this popped up in my kindle. Ms. Proby keeps us on edge. I loved being back in the Bayou Magic world. This series is just what my Halloween loving self needed. The perfect October read. You will not be able to put this down. And now I have to not so patiently wait for the next book in this series!!!! A DEFINITE MUST READ!!
Book 2 of the Bayou Magic series picks up where Book 1 leaves off and you dive right back into they magic of Kristen Proby’s New Orleans.
Millie is a fun and sweet character. She doesn’t fight against herself and accepts changes as they come. I enjoyed getting into her head and seeing how she accepts changes, like a new familiar, with grace and ease. Lucien has secrets and it is wonderful seeing him reveal himself and his secrets to Millie. This story raised a lot of questions, and Kristen Proby did an excellent job of twisting the story around so the answers were all revealed in the end. This story has a lot of dark violent themes, but they add to the spooky Halloween vibes throughout the book
I am sad I will have to wait another year for the conclusion of this trilogy. While all books are focused on individual sisters and their relationships. Without having read Book 1 Shadows, the story would be lacking context that would add to the reader’s enjoyment of the book.
This is a great paranormal witchy romance Low Angst, but still suspense and drama. Minimal heat, but high levels of romance.
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.
This was another fantastic, spellbinding journey with Millie & Lucien! Lucien waits patiently through every lifetime for Millie to realize they are one – past, present & future. Along with Brielle and Daphne, the three sisters along with Lucien continue to battle evil forces. I am loving this series immensely and can’t wait for Daphne’s story!
A long awaited story. This is a thrilling story of sisters battling evil through magic. Very apropos for this time of month. Millicent and Lucien story is simply mindblowingly spellbinding.
There are so many words I can use to describe the magic and love in this romance. Two souls connected over the millennia only to reunite again and again, to fight evil over and again. Lucien and Millicent are passionate and explosive in this book of spells and love.
Potions, spells, chants, and an amazing All Hallows’ Eve, is what Kristen Proby gives. A book filled with love that just zaps you and keep you riveted to the page.
I eagerly awaiting the power of the 6 which will hopefully be in the next book, for Daphne and Jackson.
Bayou Magic makes me want to go to the French Quarter just to feel the history, the magic and maybe catch a glimpse of what Millie, Brielle and Daphne give us in this series.
Perfection!
Let’s start of with . . . This book is ah-may-zing!!!! I am trying to write this review while my mind has been completely blown away by this book (Spells by Kristen Proby). Yes, it’s that good!! If you’ve read Shadows ( Bayou Magic book 1/ Brielle and Cash) already, just get the book!! Phenomenal!!
This is such a well written paranormal romance book. While we saw the character of Millicent (Milli) in Shadows, we dive into her character further in Spells. Spells is about Milli and Lucien, their history, their family, their love and how it has transcended lifetimes. Many shocking discoveries are revealed with Milli and Lucien’s past, which enhance the storyline and makes it hard to put this book down. Every page is a new discovery and suspenseful. Horace was introduced in book 1 and is back wreaking havoc, but together Milli and Lucian work together to defeat his evil presence in New Orleans.
Five stars are just not enough for this book!!
Spine-Chilling Perfection! Elizabeth @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Be prepared to not put this one down. Millicent and Lucian are going to keep you deeply engaged and also feeling that familiarity you have with every Kristen Proby Kristen Proby story.
So Enter if you dare into a world of magic and the paranormal.
5 Spell Binding Stars!
Though she’s known Lucien for most of her life, he unsettles Millie. She’s been dreaming of him, he’s helped her, he’s in her life. And yet she keeps avoiding him when possible because there’s a connection between them she doesn’t want to face yet. But it will be this connection that will be her biggest strength when facing the evil that first made itself known in Shadows, Millie’s sister Brielle’s story.
I thouht I loved Shadows, and I DO, but I think Spells just might have it beat. This continuing story of three powerful sisters, and the men who love them, is just as creepy, if not creepier, and truly as cringe-worthy as its predecessor. And Millie and Lucien are H O T together! I love that their bond is a timeless soulmate kind of bond, and I especially love that it’s their bond that really came through for them in the end when they were fighting the big fight. As it’s now only 4 days until Halloween, the spookiest day of the year, Spells could have not have come at a better, more appropriate time. Just in time to freak me out and make me fall in love all over again with the Bayou Magic world, and make me even more anxious for the last sister’s story!
Oooh boy! I was excited to get this second installment in this series. I’m not a huge paranormal fan, but Kristen Proby knows how to hook a reader and keep them engrossed in magic! This book focuses on Millie and Lucien. Millie is the sister who is most open to her gifts and she encourages her sisters to use theirs as well. Truths are learned and the bad guy is out there. The reader feels the danger lurking, knowing things are imminent. I liked the growing relationship between Millie and Lucien. And I enjoyed how the past was brought to light and the strength of these woman and the family around them! This book held me captivated and I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t believe as things were revealed and was unsure how things would end! This was a nice, spooky Halloweeny read. And I CANNOT wait until the next book to come!
How about returning to New Orleans?
In this contemporary romance, drenched in magic, the author takes us to the magical world of the three witch sisters: Brielle, Millie and Daphne who, despite leading their lives normally (Brielle is a tour guide in the city, in “ghostly” places; Mille is owner of a Café, and Daphne owns an antiquary), also suffer from persecution beyond this world.
This time, men with similar physical characteristics are being kidnapped and left to pieces in parts of the city. All of this is a “gift” to Millie, for a very special reason.
Furthermore, she continues to try to deny the huge attraction she feels for Lucien, a friend of the family; a blood and DNA scholar and researcher, whose expertise helps the police solve countless cases (including Millie’s brother-in-law, Cash, a former FBI agent)
As the victims are found, strange phenomena – perhaps not so coincidental – appear, from old lives and whose power can be stronger than any spell ever created.
SPELLS complements the first book, SHADOWS, and therefore it is much better that it be read in the order of release.
The story is super engaging – a little dark in some points – and with a great romance. Every girl will sigh for Lucien.
Be prepared to be scared.
This was the perfect October read!! I have been anxiously awaiting Spells; the second book in Kristen Proby’s Bayou Magic Series, since the second I finished Shadows last year. It was well worth the wait! I absolutely loved this book. This book is the perfect combination of creepy and sweet romance. Millie and Lucians love story is one that will stick with me for a long time. A love that spans lifetimes. I love these characters and I’m dying Serendipity’s release next fall!!
I don’t know if I can find the right words for how amazing this book really is!!! Oh Lucien….the world definitely needs more men like him!! The connection him and Millie has *swoon*! Their story is so captivating I could not put it down!!
I am sitting here stunned, but so in love with the love story between Millie and Lucian.
The paranormal factor, holy cow. Kristen Proby has that part nailed. I felt like I was watching a movie. The serial killer and suspense, absolutely nailed it.
I honestly wasn’t sure how I would feel when reading a paranormal romance series, but it’s a Kristen Proby book, so an automatic one click. I fell in love with this story. Yes, it has a serial killer in it with some crazy good suspense. But at the same time a love story for the ages with Millie and Lucian. It’s one of those love stories that make you smile and think “this is why I read romance.” I can’t say I’ve read anything like theirs before.
Spells is book 2 in the Bayou magic series and it was phenomenal. This one follows Millie, who is the middle sister and a practicing witch. Book 1 was Brielle, the oldest sister. Serendipity will be the youngest sister Daphne’s sorry.
This was a hands down, across the board.
So when KP announced she was going to write a PN romance series, I was a little worried because PN romance is not generally my thing. But, it’s KP, so I HAD to read it. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit! She KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK! Like, I’m itching to read it again! (And I’ve read it twice now.)
Add a murder mystery; deranged serial killer; three witch sisters; a dark magic, “dead” father; along with her epic romance stories, and then set all of this in New Orleans, where paranormal things tend to abound, and you get a freaking masterpiece! Not to mention, the epic timing of the release of this book is perfect! Spells is nothing short of amazing (and I thought I was impressed with Shadows). I can’t wait to read the next story! I, officially, have something to look forward to for next Halloween!
Well..considering that I devoured it in one sitting, it shows that I can’t put it down, in fact I don’t want to put it down once I start, I’m hooked from the prologue, and since then I fall in love with Lucien and Millie ‘s story and I just don’t want this book to end.
Yup overall I loveeeeee this book, it has everything, amazing love story, awesome creepy spooky suspense, witches and warlocks fighting against evil, superb characters, lots of actions, lots of cute full of laughter moments, and lots of love, although it’s a bit predictable for me, who cares, in the end this book is one of my favorite reads.
Totally recommended for paranormal suspense romance lovers and a MUST-READ for Halloween.
