My name is Ava Mendoza, and I’m not a species traitor. I’m a species savior.
I never thought the Veilorians were the enemy, but I also never could have imagined I’d find myself in love with one. Meeting Finn changed my life, and I happily gave up everything not just for him, but for what I believed in as well.
But now the future is uncertain, and the stakes higher than ever. Veronica Waters is … Veronica Waters is determined to make everyone in the District pay for our crimes against humans. To her we’re species traitors, but I don’t see it that way. I believe Veilorians were sent here to save us and I refuse to back down. No matter what.
I just hope I don’t lose everything in the process.

Species Savior (Species Traitor #2) was a great read by Kate L. Mary. Ava Mendoza doesn’t believe that she is a species traitor, she’s a species savior. She never believed that the Veilorians were the enemy, but she never thought that she would fall in love with one of them. Her life was changed when she met Finn, and she gave up everything for all of the Veilorians. Veronica Waters is determined to make everyone in the District pay for the crimes against humans. I absolutely loved reading this book and cant wait to read more by the author.
This book starts right where book 1 left off, so definitely read that one first. In this one, Ava, Finn, and many other Veilorian sympathizers and Veilorians find themselves on a dangerous trek through the wastelands. After the last book, I was really hoping the Veilorians would all start fighting back; they were being killed and tortured, but not enough fighting back happens for my liking. This book goes a different route, so I was disappointed that there wasn’t enough resolution to the problems between the humans and the Veilorians, but I’ve really enjoyed this whole series. Both books in this series were very entertaining! The romance is so sweet! I love the connection between Ava and Finn! Loved reading about that relationship developing further. Still loving the alien aspects; interesting ideas with the alien/human pregnancies, and I enjoy the whole dystopian feel to this world. More urgency to the action scenes would’ve added some good excitement to the story, but I was entertained the whole story. I wanted a bit more to the ending, but overall, cool premise, interesting scenarios, and a super sweet touching romance! Loved this series!
Species Savior (A Science Fiction Dystopian Novel (Species Traitor) by Kate L. Mary and narrated by Heather Firth is an enjoyable listen and a good ending for the series. If you enjoyed the first book, give this one a listen. 4 stars for story, 5 for narration.

What’s it about? Ava and Finn are back and struggling with how to proceed with their future as it looks rather grim as tensions continue to climb between humans and Veilorians. It gets even worse when Ava is faced with betrayal, discovering she is pregnant, and Mayor Waters nefarious ways. I love the world connects to another world of Kate L. Mary’s. There are plenty twists and turns and new characters that keep it interesting. I wish there would have been a little more use of certain bad characters or learning about their histories in full detail and a tad less of repeat dialogue (ex. Veilorian facts). I’m not gonna lie, I would love one or two more books out of this series or a new series where they connect to the others in the world and team up to take the bad guys out.
The narrator, Heather Firth, once again does a beautiful job. Her character voices are perfect, great pace, and adds to the overall story.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: violence/hatred against the Veilorians and humans who support them/live with them/etc., death, hunger, pregnancy, mother who was not a supportive or kind person, family betrayal, kissing, and other like situations that would arise in a dystopian society. Language used: Fx2, Sx9.
*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!
I loved this book, it kept me glued to it unable to stop, it was fast paced, action packed and an emotional rollercoaster that had me reaching for the tissues. The political corruption and manipulation kept the plot on a knife edge, and the determination of Ava and the Veilorians kept me hoping for their victory. This series has been fantastic, and left me wanting more, hoping for a follow up for the missing Veilorians, Heather’s narration was perfect, really giving the characters personality. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Species Savior starts off with Ava being arrested and put in jail for loving a Veilorian. Ava fell in love with Finn and is now pregnant with his baby and being punished for it. Humans don’t think that humans and aliens should mix. Ava does not believe this way she thinks all life is precious. Ava believes that it doesn’t matter what is on the outside that the only thing that truly matters is what is on the inside.
People that believe like Ava are being gathered up and exiled to the wastelands. Half-human/half-aliens are also being sent away. Human women that are pregnant with a Veilorian’s baby are being sent away as well.
It is tough going in the wasteland with little to no water. Veilorians are better apt to deal with the heat of the wastelands than humans are. Ava, Finn, and the others slowly make their decent across the barren wastelands to find a home and a safe place to have their baby. They meet other people who have been living out in the wastelands for a long time. They didn’t know that others have been living in the wastelands.
Unlike the rest of the human race, Ava believes that the Veilorians were sent to their planet to help save them. People with hearts like Ava’s are the people who are going to keep the world going.
I have enjoyed reading Species Savior and hate to know that this the end. I would like to know more about this world and the Veilorians. I am a big fan of aliens and dystopian books and would love to see more in this world. I can’t wait to see what Kate L. Mary has in store for us with her next book.
If you like alien/dystopian/romantic books then you are going to fall in love with Species Savior! Be sure and check out Species Traitor the first book in the series!
The pretty and the ugly of nature are on full display in this two part series. You cannot help but feel anger, hope, and so much more as you go deep into this dystopian world. The possibilities are endless in the way this story will get your mind going.
This was a whirlwind. I enjoyed it so much. I want to know what happened to Roderick, Finns parents, Brentwood. Michael, etc. What happened when they found out what happened. The creatures in the wasteland were frightening . I sure hope the author revisits this world. It was fascinating. I love the HEA and epilogue. I became a fan reading Broken World.
This is the second book and the conclusion to this imaginative series and this begins exactly where we left things previously with Ava’s sister and her shocking betrayal.
Ava with her previous bridges fully burned is now totally committed to her new Veilorian family and also pregnant with Fin’s child.
So she now has much more than just herself to worry about and after a series of escalating occurrences mostly orchestrated by Mayor Waters Ava and Fin find themselves along with a group of mixed Humans and Veilorians exiled to the barren wastelands and trying to survive there harsh new reality while they also search for a safe place to call there own.
So I enjoyed this very much it was so imaginative and heavily story led.
I was ecstatic that certain individuals got there just deserts it was so fully deserved.
I also would love to know the fate of Brentwood and Roderick and the other Veilorians left behind in Polis and I really hope we get to revisit again some time in the future just to discover this and get some final closure on it all.
This was a great series that was so imaginative and gripping and if you like story led dystopian this really is a good one.

An amazing conclusion to a truly exciting series…..after reading this two part series, Species Traitor/Species Savior a great life lesson is learned. Being different shouldn’t be considered a bad thing. All beings should be treated with respect and dignity. Not ridiculed or made to feel in adequate. But to embrace their unique abilities, all while working together to make a better life for themselves and their families.
I loved this authors version of alien beings from another world. Using their vast knowledge and intelligence of their planets technology to help the humans dying planet. I found the information this species brought with them very interesting. Ava and Finn’s love story was so much fun to read, despite the horrors they were subjected to. Love wins out in the end, as it always should! I highly recommend this series. I’ve found Kate L. Mary’s Dystopian tales to be some of the best ones I’ve ever read!
5 Savior Filled Stars!!!
Thank you Kate L. Mary!!! I was having a pretty hard few days with this quarantine but when Species Savior popped up on my kindle was the first time I smiled in days and by the time I finished it I was thrilled and glad I read this duet.
We pick up exactly where we left off. Ava had gone to her family home after she got a letter from her sister that their mom was dying. Ava snuck out without telling Finn and when she got there she quickly realized her sister and Dean set her up to be arrested so they could collect the reward.
While in prison Ava learns things that the new mayor Veronica Waters has been doing with the Veilorians she’s has locked up. Ava also finally meets her brother and learns things from him as well.
I don’t wanna giveaway too much details bc this story is too good to giveaway. What I will say after certain trades and new rules the Veilorians are exiled to the wastelands. If you’ve ever read Kate L. Mary’s previous book series’s the wastelands are the backdrop to multiple different worlds to Kate’s and YES this is the same wastelands.
I wasn’t sure if it was the same one until Ava described an animal that sounded like it was in the Outliers Series and I’d had my fingers crossed we’d see some previous characters.
Anyway back to Ava and Finn lol. Thanks to them being able to get to the Veilorians ship beforehand they had gotten a piece of machinery off the ship fixed. That piece can detect aliens.
Now the Veilorians that are in the wastelands must work together. They’re not even sure if anybody in the second ship are alive after 22yrs off no contact and if they are alive that they’re living and treated better then they have in Polis.
It won’t be easy bc the trek thru the wastelands will be a lot harder for the humans. The Veilorians can deal with both the heat during the day and cold at night better then the humans and need less water then them as well. Not to mention if any of the human women who were pregnant with a halfling. Bc, those pregnancies usually end in a c-section. They’re not sure how long it’ll take to him the other Veilorians if they do.
I read this in less then 24hrs. It pulled me outta my funk that had been in for days now. And when they came across the underground caves that Indria and her family used I felt like I was home lol. One of the many things I love about Kate’s books is when she’ll bring back previous characters and places into the book you’re reading. I always love getting updates to the characters I’ve gotten attached to prior. Kate didn’t disappoint on that.
This whole story was amazing!! It’s like nothing I’ve read before. I love reading books that are completely different then all the others. I really wish we got more from this world. Like I’m dying to know what happened to the Veilorians that weren’t with Finn, Ava and their group. Hopefully, down the road we’ll get it.
When Kate shared a bunch of stories she had started writing I knew Species Traitor looked amazing and man it was amazing and so much more. I’m 110% looking forward to Kate L. Mary’s next release!!!!
Species Saviors is the second book in Species Traitors series and must be read in order.
We jump right into where book 1 left off with that cliff hanger. Ava is infuriating. There I said it. I thought she was going to make me throw my ereader on more then 1 occasion, she puts herself in so much danger I don’t understand how Finn hasn’t just locked her away.
They finally after much hardship make it! The chapters flow easy and I was excited to make a connect with another of the authors series. I hope that we get more on what happened to the second group and Polis. I would love more on the wasteland people also! An interesting and creative world that I want to explore more of.
