Piper Ford is one kickass female! She is a true warrior…forget that she is a female in a very male-dominated world…she could kick most of their asses, whilst wearing high heels!
Doing a favour for a neighbour really shouldn’t have landed her in the trouble that it did. But intentionally mistaken identity is the least of her problems!
Zane Cosworth has been undercover for so long, he feels that his grip on his true identity is slipping away from him. But when fate sticks a trained soldier in front of him rather than the intended kidnap target, he makes the best of a bad choice and takes Piper to appease the terror cell. But can he extricate them both from the increasingly unhinged cell?
Talk about fast paced! Zane and Piper don’t do things by halves. I loved the concept of the Medusa Team and Camp Vanessa. Their boss is a bit of a martinet but he has a heart of gold under all the gruff…somewhere!
The Medusa team could be made to be very Charlie’s Angel-ish but they are a hard-core crew and I loved that they are willing to go out on a limb for each other. There are plenty of twists and turns and whilst the incarceration and interrogation of Piper is intense, it is handled with dignity and there are no superfluous violent scenes. They are all serving a purpose. The worst scene was Zane and Piper attempting to subvert the bad guys, that would be a bit of a trigger for anyone who has survived sexual assault possibly.
I did read this quite soon after Operation Valkyrie series and some parallels can’t help be drawn but they are both great stories!
Wow, this book had me on the edge of my seat. Piper Ford is a member of Medusa, an all female special forces team. Piper agrees to drop off a neighbor’s son at school but must return because he forgot his lunch in the car. A group of masked men rush the school looking for a woman named Persephone Black. One of the masked men takes Piper instead to save the school from being shot up. Piper must use all of the skills she has learned during her training with the Medusas to stay alive. One of her captors, “Amir” is not what he seems and goes out of his way to keep her as safe as possible. Soon they realize they must escape when the terrorists are about to kill them both.
I won’t go into great detail about the story because I don’t want to give anything away. I couldn’t put this book down. After Piper and Amir escape, we find out who he really is and what his mission was. Piper went through quite an ordeal while being held hostage. It made her question her abilities as a special forces agent. I really enjoyed the fact that during their escape, Amir, realizing Piper’s skills, allows her to take the lead in their escape. Once both identities are revealed and they manage to escape, another event takes place that has Piper and Amir/Zane working together to rescue Persephone’s husband from Iran. It is at that point that we find out why the terrorists want Persephone Black as a hostage. This story has strong, capable women, a spy, Iranian terrorists, action and suspense and two people who realize that they can have a life outside of the job and be accepted for who they are. I look forward to the rest of the books in this series.
Who are Piper and Zane? Who are the Medusas? Who are Susan and Jack? Where is Piper from? How does she know and/or meet everyone else? What happens when Piper is asked to drop Jack off? When Piper has to go back, she sees something, what is it? Why does Zane call her out? Wowwie! This was one heck of a read! I cannot wait to read more Special Forces stories. I had a hard time putting this book down to eat or do anything else! What a fun read. Many unexpected events!
