Rylee couldn’t believe her rotten luck… the streets, in the trenches, and her boss knows it. Keeping Mr. Fancy Pants out of the clutches of a worshipping stalker, mercenaries and a man out to seek revenge for an old injustice just annoys her.
Not excited about his pending cruise, before boarding the ship, Jake Andrews sees an enticing woman on the pier and decides it might not be so bad after all. Becoming landlord to two stowaways – one being a tiny kitten – isn’t at all in his plans for this vacation either. His goal is to finish his phone app for the Pentagon, have a good long rest to heal from recent stress and take a break from being threatened, stalked and attacked.
But if he can spend some of the voyage romancing this chick, that might add enough spice to his days… and nights for the trip to prove eventful.
Surprise!

I love this story. It has everything I look for in an entertaining read: fast-paced suspense, an exotic locale, interesting characters, unexpected plot twists, and love. It’s masterfully written. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy a good suspense story with a satisfying love story.
Rylee is a tough as nails agent with a traumatic past. Jake went from living on the streets to being rich with multiple targets on his back. Together the two become fire. Full of action, heart, and compassion, Book 7 in the Undercover FBI Series is a winner.
I don’t know what I was expecting exactly but this story was really different. And that’s not a bad thing either because it was really good. It starts out with great main characters too!
Rylee was just as tough as you expect from the book information but she was also so much more. Life has given her some tough times and that was way before she became an agent. It also affected some of the choices she made, like taking on so many dangerous assignments. Something that drove her loving sister Mari often to the point of fearful tizzies. Mari was successful in her own right but she was nowhere near anything that’s even close to violent.
Jake was nothing like I was expecting and once again that was a good thing. He was a genius but he also was so softhearted and that was something different. Things that he had experienced so much earlier had made him sensitive to other people. It also caused him to want to help those who were in pain. He was pretty perceptive when it came to that.
Miguel was a surprise twist and one that I really enjoyed. Carlos was another interesting surprise as well.
Dangers kept coming at Jake and caused a lot of action and surprises. One of the last surprises was an enemy that surfaced that they hadn’t realized was on board. More action, more danger, more to overcome. Which they do with the help of at least one other agent as well.
Great ending with a H.E.A. and a look into some of the changes that come into their lives.
Special Agent Rylee is the seventh book in the Undercover FBI series, but reads well as a stand alone. Rylee has been tasked with going undercover to guard a tech genius on a cruise ship, and she’s furious. She wants the fast and furious jobs with the FBI, not a luxury vacation. No one is more surprised when she meets Jake and not only does the attraction fly, but so does the danger. With so many people interested in Jake’s work, will Rylee be able to keep him safe and walk away with her heart intact, especially with two special stowaways thrown into the mix?
Oh my, this book was the perfect blend between funny and steamy, sweet and romantic, with snark, danger, and a lot of self discovery! I loved it! Rylee and Jake definitely captured my attention and I loved reading their romance. It was the perfect read right now, too, because the whole book was set on a cruise ship – how fun and original! Rylee is an adrenaline junky, loves the dangerous job, is known as having ice in her veins, but I just loved watching her melt for Jake and for the two special stowaways. It was heartwarming to see her vulnerable, but thrilling to read her kick butt scenes, too! Jake was just the biggest sweetheart with the kindest soul. I loved how he helped soften Rylee, that they were two sides of the same coin. The danger in this book was amusing at times, serious at others, and I loved that it was constant throughout the whole book. The stowaways added an extra special element to the story that I just loved! While I haven’t read all the books in the series yet, this one has been my favorite so far and I am excited to read more!
There is danger, excitement, romance and worry. I like that Jack can bring out Raylee’s soft side. She can melt at a kitten and sympathies with a 13 year old child who just wants to help his family. Very good story. I wonder if this is the last book or not. I will check it out and see. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Rylee was assigned as a body guard for Jake. His invention was wanted by several countries. It didn’t take them long to realize they were attracted to each other. But it took longer for some to understand why. Along the way there was 2 stowaways, hand to hand battles, shooting, death, kidnapping and boat chase.
I have read several of Ms Barbour ‘s books. This is my favorite by far.
This was a fun and entertaining story for me. I liked how Mimi Barbour kept taking Rylee out of her comfort zone and how she kept Rylee fighting against everything. Rylee fought against everything. It was fun watching Rylee’s walls crumble. Jake was fun and was more accepting of things. I enjoyed Rylee and Jake’s story. Not sure how believable this story was but I enjoyed it. Mimi Barbour did manage to bring a tears to my eyes towards the end. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Rylee and Jake
Rylee is told by her boss that she is taking an assignment undercover to protect a billionaire who needs some time away from Miami to finish his current project without interference from others. However, Rylee is not pleased with her assignment as she wants to be in the thick of things!
Jake’s partner Leo has convinced him after the last few months and with everything that’s happened that he needs to have some downtime….we’ll considering he’s being stalked by a woman he has no interest in, he was almost kidnapped and it seems the list is never ending, he decides to go on a cruise and hopefully finish the development of the app within a less stressful environment. When he spots Rylee he’s completely enchanted and hopes he might get to have some more time with the beauty….however, things heat up quickly when he boards the ship
A really good quick paced story and longer than I’m used to by Mimi but absolutely loved it and all the characters. A few “hidden” surprises which are always nice twists to the story…..like a stowaway kitten and more
Riley and her sister Mari were the only family they had left after an accident killed their parents.
Riley’s job with the FBI made it especially hard for Mari not to be a protective mama bear as the elder sister.
An assignment to protect a wealthy inventor on board a cruise ship should be mind numbingly boring. Turns out to be quite the adventure in more ways than one. Some of the biggest unexpected challenges may yet be ahead for both Riley and Mari, with very different futures possible.
Action and adventure and romance!
Well Rylee didn’t want to be there — babysit a spoiled billionaire? She wants to do “real” work but she went anyway. Jake wasn’t looking forward to the cruise, but spotted her right away. Great chemistry between them and a hot romance, there are bad guys, an adventure, and all kinds of interference in their path to True Love, if they can even figure out what that is. Fast moving story with lots going on. Great, well-developed characters and it’s all wrapped up in an HEA. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
Mimi Barbour, ‘Special Agent Rylee’, Undercover Book 7.
As an ARC reader I received this book for free. And promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4 stars (of 5).
In general: Sweet love between tough FBI agent and computer nerd.
Leading character:
– Rylee James.
Inspired by experiences in her youth she becames a tough FBI undercover agent, specialized in dangerous, dirty cases. And was very successful.
– Jake Andrews.
Computer nerd. Designing security apps. Very important for the US government. So he got FBI protection, because of threats from foreign countries and criminal organisations which want to steel his app.
Rylee and Jake meet when Jake – fleeing the threats at home – takes a cruise into the Caribbean. Rylee, disguised as a tourist, is one of his bodyguards. She doesn’t like the job, for she thinks it’s too soft and not in accordance with her reputation as solver of rough cases.
Meeting Jake she likes him; he’s not the spoiled, wealthy company owner she expected him to be when she studied his files. And Jake admires Rylee, the tomboy turned into a gorgeous looking woman. During the cruise Rylee and her colleagues discover that a lot of Jake’s enemies are on board trying to force him to give them the security app.
The author, Mimi Barbour, describes how Jake and Rylee fall in love while the FBI saves Jake from several attacks. She creates an interesting and exciting plot with a lot of wonderful characters, many suspenseful action scenes and unexpected turns in the story. Fortunately Jake and Rylee’s opponents aren’t always very clever, so there’s a happy end. For me the book was an easy to read, pleasant page turner.
R. Huiszoon.
I’m really on the fence about this one. There were parts of this story that I really enjoyed; Miguel and his family, the kitten, Rylee’s banter with Carl, and even most things that Jake does. But overall, the plot feels more like a Mr. Bean spy movie than the romantic suspense of any of the previous books in the series. (And I’m not talking about Johnny English, I’m talking about Mr. Bean as a spy.) I’m learning to overlook a lot in terms of spelling and grammatical mistakes, but continuity errors will pull me out of a story every time. When the leading characters are suddenly concerned with the whereabouts of a villain that’s already in custody, I’m left wondering what I missed. And I see the author has returned to her inability to call eyes “eyes”. I mean “pleaders”? Why? There are a lot of tasteful ways to say the kid was begging with his eyes that wouldn’t have left me with a headache from rolling mine so hard. If you’re looking for something that’s completely over-the-top and more than a little ridiculous, this could be the book for you. I was looking for a bit more realism.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Hidden Gems.
This has suspense, action, romance and so much more. Rylee and Jake’s story takes place on a cruise ship and was entertaining to read. This is the seventh book in the Undercover FBI series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I have to say that the Undercover FBI series is my favorite series of Mimi Barbour’s numerous series, and Special Agent Rylee lives up to my expectations for this series. It is a great suspense read with some romance thrown in that kept me turning pages well into the night. The story taking place on a luxury cruise liner was a wonderful setting for this story too. This is a must read for anyone that has read any of the other books in the series. Or if you haven’t dove into this series yet, this is a great book to begin with – you won’t be lost as every book is a stand-alone with no cliffhangers.
