In the aftermath of his terrible war, Ender Wiggin disappeared, and a powerful voice arose: The Speaker for the Dead, who told the true story of the Bugger War. Now, long years later, a second alien race has been discovered, but again the aliens’ ways are strange and frightening…again, humans die. And it is only the Speaker for the Dead, who is also Ender Wiggin the Xenocide, who has the … has the courage to confront the mystery…and the truth.

Mr Card is my favorite author. All of the ender series are wonderful books. You will find yourself there in enders world every time in these books Get the whole series for vacation and read read read.
This is probably my favorite book by Card so far!
If you liked Enders Game this is a great follow up novel.
I am a huge fan of the Ender stories.
I read this years ago. I remember enjoyed it. I liked how the story got into the minds of the bugs and showed Ender’s compassion and regret. It has a spiritual element to it that drew me in.
One of the great scifi books ever. Incredible world-building and with a deeply religious undertone (in an alien way). Recommended for everyone. Far better even than the author’s Ender’s Game.
Classic Card. Sometimes preachy, but the Ender series is essential. But start with Ender’s Game.
Amazing story!
“Speaker … “ was quite engrossing. I was drawn to it because it is part of the Ender series and was not disappointed. It was detailed, original, engrossing … and in a couple of scenes, confusing — at least for me. I am ready to pick it up again because it intrigued me.
This is a great addition to a wonderfully thought provoking series. Sci-Fi with a message!!!
This book is a decent book but it just doesn’t flow as well as Ender’s Game. I suggest reading this and the next book. But the books about Ender when he is younger are better. Also the books about the other kids, especially Bean are really good.
McCammon has been chasing Heinlein for a long time: here I think he catches him. Exponential stars.
One of the most amazing, human, book Ive ever read. The transition of Ender; from accidental, genocidal, wunderkind, to Speaker for the Dead is transcendent. What a concept. Which I wish were a real thing. The secret truth of a persons life, in all of its beauty and ugliness, is a unique gift to the world. To be known, truly known, is to be loved. At least a bit.
As wonderful as Enders a Game is, and it is wonderful, Speaker is miles deeper and insightful. You must read Enders Game first to truly appreciate this one.
I read it far too long ago to give a precise review. I remember I thought it even better than Ender’s Game. Actually much more mature and less game like. Extremely original and creative. In a way it belongs to the first contact theme. But there can be much more to first contact than the first contact. It is rare indeed that the second book will thus surpass a first book that was already outstanding.
The rare sequel that is better. Though it’s practically a tie as this is so wildly different. A masterpiece.
It was not afraid to be unabashedly science-fiction. Every sci-fi theme and concept out there was thrown in and he made it work.
Another wonderful and original author. His work has a tremendous impact.
I read this, years ago. It’s worth re-reading. Orson Scott Card is a great author.
A better book than even Enders Game.
Picking up where Ender’s Game left off, we find Ender (no longer using his nickname but his actual name of Andrew) starting over on another planet. As usual another Excellent Read! I don’t believe in Spoilers so that’s about all I will say, except that I have loved the Ender’s Game Book Collection for as long as I can remember, I have read every book in the series so many times that my paperback books are worn out and I have purchased replacement books a few times. I was happy when my husband got me a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 for Christmas so I could purchase a copy of the books in a format that I can read over and over, a format that will never wear out. I Love not only the Ender’s Game Series, but even those additional series which are related to it (especially the Shadow Series). What An Awesome read!!
