I’ve had the most amazing night of my life — with a complete stranger. Solving a riddle led me on an adventure I never could have imagined, only to be left in handcuffs next to the last person I ever expected to see. Prince Sage Stevinson.I’m considered one of the lucky ones. One of only four women who are in line to marry the Prince of Canterbury due to some antiquated law that should have been … have been updated five hundred years ago.
Every stand-up-straight, hold your chin up, place your hand in your lap while you eat, and suck in your stomach directive, was all to bring me to this moment. Even my name, Everly, represents my happily ever after.
But my happily ever after does not include marrying the Prince. I want to make a difference in this world and living the fake, pretentious life of the royal family is far from my dream.
If Prince Sage wants me to be his Queen, he’ll have to prove he’s more than just one outrageous night.

A fun, fast-paced romance that is nothing short of a modern day fairy tale, complete with a handsome prince, a girl who doesn’t conform to expectations, and even a redeemable villain to stand in the way. Everly’s sass and wit is absolutely perfect for the rule-breaking Sage and his plan of action for winning her heart is heartwarmingly swoon worthy. We do get a bit of angst from Sage’s overbearing father, who happens to be King, but it’s not over the top angsty and the fun of the story keeps things light-hearted, making for an engaging, leave you with a smile read.
This romance book is so much more than I expected. It had me doing everything from laughing to crying. I wanted to dive into the pages and meet the characters, stand up for love and find a way to bring two hearts together—even though they didn’t need my help!
I could feel the passion and chemistry between the two main characters. The author did an excellent job of showing the characters in all their glory—both their weaknesses and strengths. The book reminded me not to judge a person so very quickly because I admit; I probably would have felt the same as Everly. Sage really brought it all home in the book about what it means to fight for something you believe in. What’s even better is that this was so much more than just about the two main characters—it was about what it means “to be the change” and an encouragement to all.
Thank you Lauren Runow for such an amazing book.

The Island of Cambridge was still living under an age old law where the Prince had to marry a woman from a certain bloodline by his 25th birthday or he would forfeit his birthright to be the future king. Neither Prince Sage nor Everly Stanley liked the outdated law, yet Everly was one of the girls suitable for the prince to marry. Right from the start Sage saw more to the woman hiding underneath the pomp and circumstance. The lone black painted fingernail upon her ring finger, a sign that she detested the idea of the forced marriage as much as he did, was enough to intrigue Sage the man to pursue her, but he needed to pursue Everly as himself and not under all the pretense of the Prince.
Sage was already under enough pressure to choose the right bride, but he would not make the mistake of choosing one who was only after the throne. He wanted a woman who would challenge him, be his equal, and he had a feeling if he got to know Everly without the title attached they just might be well matched. During the day Sage wore the crown for the public, but at night he ignited a spark to win over Everly’s heart.
Everly never wanted to marry royalty, it was always her mother’s dream. When Everly receives a mysterious text on a night she wants to blow off steam she doesn’t hesitate for long, unsure of how many more nights she will get now that she is in the running to be queen. Experiencing the best night of her life with a mysterious stranger it all comes to a crashing halt when she discovers she was duped by none other than Prince Sage.
How could the man who gave her the best night of her entire life also be the man who wants to take away her future?
Confused and torn she agrees to spend more time with Sage. Not the prince, but the man. The more time she spends with him, the more she grows to like him, even possibly love him, but at the end of the day he is still the prince which is a huge responsibility. What will happen when sparks fly between them?
Sparks Fly is a wonderful story of love, giving back, never giving up, and when you find your true love you never work a day in your life because you work from your heart, you work with passion, you love what you do. I loved this book for reminding me how important that is.
Whether you are a princess or a commoner you can make a difference; Be the change. I happen to have that quote pinned to my wall and tattooed upon my body, it’s one of my all time favorite quotes. To say I was exponentially moved by what Sage and Everly accomplished, I loved every moment of it and had to fight back happy-sappy tears so I could continue reading.
Thank you to every volunteer out in the world doing amazing things and continue to be the change.
Thank you Lauren for reminding me to continue to be the change I want to see in the world.
Sparks Fly a stand-alone from Lauren Runow, I haven’t read many books by this author but every book I read seems to be better than the last and this one captivated me, it drew me in and if I had to give you a phrase from the book that would describe this story it would be ………
“ Nothing is what you think. You have to find the truth in everything. At the end, is where we begin”
Prince Sage needs a wife and he is inviting suitable candidate’s out for a meal with his parents the King and Queens, every girl on paper is perfect to become a princess and eventually the Queen but personalities are very different to resumes and blood lines…….. Sage is attracted to Everly but the King wants nothing to do with this candidate and truth be known Everly doesn’t want to be a princess, so it’s up to Prince Sage to win her over and convince his father she is a worthy candidate.
I loved this story, it took me to a happy place and it left my everyday life behind, I loved the characters and I loved how Sage was not giving up on his heart. This book has it all, love, passion, the perfect mix of humour and friends that are loyal as well as obnoxious royals, this book will bring a smile to your face and this authors did a great job with Sparks Fly.
How would you feel interviewing for the role of Queen? Not a part for a play but a real-life part. Everly had no interest in royal positions or anything that went with it. When and if she married it would not be arranged but for love.
Prince Sage is just as excited as Everly. Not. He doesn’t have a choice. He has to marry as the next in line to rule and it has to be soon. The two women on the short list he’s met are not in the running. When he sees Everly and watches her reaction to his position he is more than interested. He knows her–not her name but he’s watched her. He just has to figure out how to get her interest.
I love the characters. Real people who see past the glory of being royal and want to use their positions to improve the people they can. They take chances–a lot of chances. Fight for their own needs that are good for their people. They have loyal friends and an obnoxious royal. This is a good read and I recommend it.

I think this might be my favourite Lauren Runow book. Sage and Everly’s story was so sweet, but also a very much needed story in this day and age in my opinion. Not everyone is what they seem and that is very true of both Sage and Everly and the legacy they want to leave on their community. “Be the change that you wish to see in the world” is a good way for all of us to live. This story was so well written and the characters so relatable as they both just want to make positives changes and impacts in the world I think we can all learn something from this book and the characters. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.
