One look, and it was like falling in love the first time.Everything changed the moment Hugo met Kevin. They were only teens, and despite many obstacles, they fell in love. But young loves drift apart.Hugo hasn’t been in love since. Dating is a chore, his drag queen persona and acting gigs are always an issue, so he’s just done with men . . . until he runs into Kevin at the lake.Years after their … Kevin at the lake.
Years after their last kiss, the spark is still strong, but life is complex. Kevin lives in the shadow of divorce and is navigating single fatherhood. Plus no one knows he’s bisexual.
Rekindling their romance is easy away from the demands of the city, but what about when real life kicks in?
Does their love stand a chance this second time around?

Oh man, I loved revisiting Hugo and Kevin. I loved the first edition and love edition number 2 just a little bit more. I really loved going back and forth from Kevin & Hugo’s highschool memories to the present, it flowed so nicely. Spark is so lovely and a great start to the trilogy and I look forward to the rest. Their story is so beautiful and their supportive family & friends were such a great part in the book. I love Miss Cherry Pop!. I read this book so fast, I just wanted to keep reading their love story and see how it develops (I mean, I know, but it’s so nice to read again with this new edition). I can’t recommend this story enough. And the cover, oh man, it’s beautiful.
I am a big fan of friends to lovers and this book is a prime example why. You get so much more than a love story. You get a feel of the times and how the boys/men feel with them. Their struggles and the pressure the felt then and now. It is so much more. The characters are what really got me. I loved Hugo from the start. Kevin I went back and forth on. I understood his reasons but it took me longer to fall for him. Summer is my girl. Her relationship with Hugo is an example of a true friend. Both knowing what the other needed. Brooke and Finn also had my heart quick. How could they not. I’m not even going to compare this to the previous one. There is no comparison. You will finish this with a warm heart and an eagerness for the next one.

Spark is Book one of the North Star Trilogy by Posy Roberts. It is the beginning of Hugo and Kevin’s story. We get the backstory of teenage boys discovering love for the first time and the years between that last goodbye and their second chance meeting. It is all interwoven seamlessly and beautifully.
Well written story that flows well and kept my interest. The characters are well written and interesting. Kevin and Hugo are amazing characters who captured my heart and made me a fan. Seeing the evolution of these characters and their rediscovery of one another was amazing. They are loveable characters who are surrounded by great supporting cast of characters. This is a great start to a trilogy and I can not wait to see what comes next for our characters.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This is a great second chance romance that drew me in and kept me turning the pages. Kevin and Hugo are interesting characters, Ienjoyed getting to know them. The secondary characters strengthen and enhance the story. Things for Hugo and a Kevin are just getting underway. I look forward to reading what happens next.
I love the characters and the strength and am looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy but found this a bit clunky to read and I didn’t actually finish the book. The jumping from past to current and Hugo to Kevin made it hard for me to read but based on the parts I did read and the blurb of book 2 I will continue the series. For me this would have been better as maybe half the book past Kevin and Hugo and half the book current Kevin and Hugo.
Honestly, I’m not quite sure how to start this review. I have a bit of a…love-hate relationship with this book I guess. First of all, it’s not a standalone and while it does have a HFN (I guess, it’s happy in the end), it’s…annoying to know there’s more to the couple’s story and NOW YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE.
The beginning of the book was a bit meh to me, but it did pick up later so I am glad I carried through and haven’t given up on it. I didn’t really care for the characters at the beginning, but then I got to know them more.
Basically, the two men, Hugo and Kevin have known each other in school, when they started their relationship. It was doomed from the beginning though, as Kevin had a demanding father, who dominated his whole life and who had everything planned for him.
They meet after seventeen years, completely by accident. Hugo has come to the lake with his best friend Summer to cheer her up after breaking up with her boyfriend. When they bump into each other, things happen faster than it would be good probably. But they do eventually work things out among themselves but even though Kevin is prepared to eventually come out, he is worried about custody of the children if his ex-wife gets to know it.
I liked the flashbacks to their teenage years. It made me like the characters more. Another thing that increased my love of the characters was their interaction with Kevin’s children. The kids are just adorable!
It is an enjoyable book even though it had a slow beginning and the ending is relatively open. If you’re anything like me, be sure that you can get to next book as quickly as possible
I loved the characters very much. Hugo and Kevin meet after big seeing each other since high school.
Hugo was surprised by the run in. After getting reacquainted they end up in bed together. The next morning Kevin is acting strange and Hugo has no idea what Kevin has yet to reveal.
Kevin’s wife is pretty awesome and so are his kids. They book ends with a HFN. So if you are not a fan wait until book 2 comes out.
This is the first in a 3-book series about Hugo and Kevin. I love these characters. Kevin is a good guy who wants more than anything else to make sure he does not become his father. He is bisexual, almost divorced, and the father of two fun and funny kids. Hugo is just adorable. He has so many facets to his busy life, and I just could not get enough of him.
These two first fell for each other as teens, and when they happen upon each other again at a summer party, it’s like their hearts were never separated. Maybe this is the reason neither has found a happy ever after with anyone else. Their conversations and sweet moments together are wonderful.
I smiled watching Hugo get to know Kevin’s children, and I adored the supportive relationship Hugo has with his best friend Summer. There is really not a lot to dislike about this book. It is only the start, so the ending is a happy for now, with hopes for so much more. I look forward to the next in the trilogy.
