Praise for Space Team:“Laughed so hard I shot coffee out my nose.”“If all scifi was like this, everyone would be reading it.”“This book is so good you might punch yourself in the face.”Cal Carver thinks his life has hit rock bottom. When the small-time conman finds himself imprisoned and forced to share a cell with a semi-naked cannibalistic serial killer, he’s pretty sure his day can’t get any … killer, he’s pretty sure his day can’t get any worse.
He is wrong.
It isn’t until two-thirds of the human race is wiped out and Cal is mistakenly abducted by aliens that things really start to go downhill.
Whisked across the galaxy, Cal is thrown into a team of some of the sector’s most notorious villains and scumbags and tasked with delivering a package to a warlord-run solar system where the authorities dare not venture.
The mission should be simple enough, but as one screw-up leads to another the ragtag group of unwitting heroes find themselves in a frantic battle to save an entire alien civilization – and its god – from total annihilation.
Featuring epic space battles, unforgettable characters, and a shapeshifting blob with the face of Tobey Maguire, Space Team is the first book in the internationally bestselling series by award-winning author, Barry J. Hutchison, and is perfect for fans of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Galaxy Quest, Guardians of the Galaxy, and pretty much anything else with the word ‘Galaxy’ in the title.
Except maybe Samsung’s Galaxy S series, which is a range of mobile phones, and so not really similar.

Very entertaining! Would recommend it highly!
It’s been a long time since a book made me laugh out loud but this book has me laughing every other chapter.
Fun in a great, nonploding way
Who would ever think a story including plagues, prison, and cannibalism could ever even be remotely described as hilarious? Yep, it’s this story. So grateful Barry Hutchison has more in store.
Hysterical sci-fi adventure! Could not get through a single chapter without laughter! Great imagination in regards to the dominant space entities. Thoughtful attention to descriptive phrases. A Very Enjoyable Read!
Very long, slow start. Nothing to grab my interest, so I closed it and went on to something else with more to offer.
It was a good read!
Slightly shady hero and really villainly villains. Fast action and lots of humor. Classic “let’s assemble the team” subplot. Even folks who don’t like sci-fi should enjoy this. They might not get some of the jokes, though.
Ok, this is cross between real sci fi and comedy, but it falls short on both. The characters are well founded, the wit is OK, but falls short. Too many characters doing too many things with too many capabilities are like page fillers. Typical good guys, bad guys, and the required corrupt leader of the “good guys.” I’d wait to see the second in the series to see if the author has found his groove for me to recommend it.
Contrary to the comments on the cover, there wasn’t any part of it that merited more than a smile; nor chuckle. So falling out of my chair funny it isn’t.
Decent read – a bit silly, but decent space opera. Nice diversion.
The book was not funny right away, but I laughed out loud when he tried to swear!
for my reADING ENJOYMENT
Lots of fun
This is one of the most fun series I have read. Don’t look for pathos and deep philosophy. This series is fun to read. Nuff Said.
A must read. Read it when you need a lift. Hilarious! Very creative. I’ll be reading all the books in the series. Who would think a character who looks like lime Jell-O with eyeballs would be so helpful! And every character is equally original.
Too simplistic
I like science fiction and I enjoyed this book in spite of its flaws. The author tried too hard to be funny all the time at the expense of the story. Nevertheless, I like the characters and will probably read the next book in the series. I hope there’s some breathing room between the jokes in the next one.
It was a fun book to read. Great characters
Three disparate aliens and one human (of shady character) are roped into exciting, daring space exploits by a scheming, power-motivated president of a sector of space. Funny, snarky, and rather violent, it’s all in good fun with a soft moral twist. Think Douglas Adams meets Galaxy Quest. Improbable adventures, lots of craziness, and great brain candy.
Very funny and crude. Enjoyed this series very much.
