This was such a fun read. I just loved the whole idea. Already got the next in the series, Big ship, lot’s of guns. I hope the author, John Wilker keeps writing more stories like this.
If you’re looking for a fun, fast-paced adventure with a lovable crew of misfits, this book’s for you! This story has a Firefly-esque feeling, but with a plethora of aliens and only one human, Wil Calder, captain of the Ghost, a spaceship that reminded me more than a little bit of Serenity. I loved going along for the ride. The pop culture references made me laugh, as did the banter among the crew. An entertaining, enjoyable read!
The Epic Adventures of Wil Calder, Space Smuggler (Space Rogues, Book 1) by John Wilker and narrated by KC Johnston was a fun, easy listen! Would recommend if you are into space operas.
What’s it about? The summary explains it well so details here will be minimal. Some other things to expect: peacekeepers, officers, different planets, goons, smuggling jobs, night markets, aliens, and a robot. It’s fast-paced, lots of action, and humorous at times.
The narrator, KC Johnston, did a fantastic job at bringing the characters to life. I would recommend listening to his books. He is one of two narrators I’m following to see where their narrating careers go.
Overall it was good and I recommend if you’re looking for a space opera.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: some swearing (S-word, F-word), drinking (the brew of space but it does get you “wasted”), smuggling, death, MC considers suicide at one point.
I have read all the books in this series so far, and I will be getting the next one next month when it is published. Fun read, with several novel ideas, and good characters. The Ship is good too. A real Space Opera, without any singing.
Classic Space Opera
If I read it, it was worth reading. I READ IT !!!!!!
Easy reading and a good story
This a good youth level sci fi. Just enough “flash back” to explain how the main character got where he is at. Crew building is an accidenral delight culminating in a friendly group of races more than will to work together and even though technically outlaws they “save the day.”
Nice action play, not overly technical, and only the briefest mention of sex.
This is a good read. Interesting twists and a satisfying ending. Can’t wait to pick up the next book
Good read
Best read
better than expected from the trite title.
I think it was truly a scl-fi book with a plausible story line. I didn’t think it was trying to change my world view or morals. Just an enjoyable read.
A good introduction to the characters and world they live in. The story was clever as well. Hoping for more books in this series!
Great book, looking forward to reading the other books in the series
Perfect break time book…especially if it’s gonna be a 10 hour day!
I read the free first one, bought the 2nd and am waiting for the 3rd!
Absolutely loved it. Page Turner, unforgettable characters, exciting. If you love space operas then this is a must read. Lots of action.
Read all three and held my interest.
I appreciate the tongue in cheek humor that pops up in this book, as well as all the ‘human things’ Well done.
