There is no Quinn without Que. Her only family murdered, the males of her species governing the prison designed to contain her, Sigil mourns. Que had been her world, but it is Sovereign who enters her body day and night. No man has loved a woman more, and no woman has hated a man with such passion. She cannot help it. Designed to be the perfect slave soldier, programmed to exterminate her own … programmed to exterminate her own kind, Sigil wants nothing more than to butcher those who would save her.
Sovereign’s many Brothers lavish her with attention, taking turns practicing seduction to woo the only female who might propagate their species. No matter twisting limbs or thrusting bodies, no matter opulent gifts and distraction, Sigil sees what they seek to hide.
There is a dangerous secret Sovereign and his Brothers cannot conceal forever, though they are willing to risk the empire, their lives, and even her sanity trying. Is that not the definition of love?
Publisher’s Note: The second installment in Addison Cain’s provocative and raw Irdesi Empire series is a dark tale with explicit sexual themes and complete power exchange. Some scenes are written to be disturbing. If such material offends you, please do not purchase.

Addison does in again by adding on to the world and development of our favorite Psycho Heroine and Sovereign and his brother love for the only female of their species. This part 2 of the series answers some question left behind in book 1. Such as, what happened and how Sigil was freed from her prison as a child, what she and Sovereign really are, and why he and his brothers love her to the point of obsession. This was a great addition to the series and I can’t wait for the third installment.
Sovereign was a wild ride. If you haven’t read Sigil, the first book, then go back and read it. Sovereign is a breathless wrap-up, (hopefully not, but!) of Sigil. You find that when Sigil was created, she was created to be a psychopathic killer to her own species. Which blows my mind that she was the villain the whole time! How often do you find the character you are rooting for this the villain?! So much gore and battles are happening, bodies are literally hitting the floor. This was a thrilling read, I would recommend to anywho!
Awesomeness! The first book is still my favorite, but this one was nothing to sneeze about. You should definitely read it. After you read the first one.
Great addition to this series! Be prepared this read isn’t for everyone there is a lot of blood and gore but the story is so amazing and the characters really take you on a journey to another world. Sigil has woken up after 50 years of sleeping do to the damage done to her body in the first book. The Sovereign and the brothers are there to cater to her every need and keep her calm and happy. Let’s just say bad things happen when she isn’t calm and happy. They are also keeping secrets from her; will she discover the truth? This read is chalk full of drama and suspense the story is fast-paced and really draws you in. Sigil has been through so much and lost all of the people she loves; can she learn to be happy with her new role in the empire or will she find a way to escape again? Looking forward to the next in the series, I loved it!
Review on Updated version:
So our girl Sigil has finally awakened from her Psionic rage induced sleep. She finds that not only has the Brotherhood changed her eyes, her hair her face whilst asleep, she has had her powers muted by a chip. As she comes to terms with the changes, Sovereign continues his daily pursuit, until the day Sigil does what she does best and snaps and reaches for an eye.
Left in the care of Karhl and the others, it’s not long before the longings for what Sovereign can give her makes her go to the seat of the Empire. Here she discovers that all is not as it seems, and that there is much that the Brotherhood are hiding from her. She meets and old acquaintance and we meet Tiberoun, a brother once the man who was Sovereign and his connection to Sigil. As the brothers claim to love her, there are others who want her dead. What will this new palace bring for Sigil?
This being the second time reading this, especially as it’s been extended, there are a few more things I see and connect which were missed the first time around. The author has certainly made me fall in love with Sigil all over again and feel pity for those who cross her.
This book (and the series thus far) are awe inspiring! Cain takes you through every imaginable emotion with every turn of the page, keeping you on the edge of your seat and cautiously rooting for this (admittedly psychotic) heroine. All of the characters are complex, well rounded, and fully realized; there is no detail ignored in this story, and with the recent update it’s better than ever! The world is incredible and Cain’s world building is one of my favorite things about her! This is seriously a must read, even if it’s not your usual genre.
I’ve read this book and the Irdesi series many times. I’ve always been impressed with Addison Cain’s world-building and everything that goes into the series. There are so many levels and layers and things to dig through. I could end up talking to people about these books for hours and hours.
Every time I read the books, I am struck with the differences between love and obsession and whether what Sovereign feels for Sigil is really love, just obsession, or even real at all. It’s always interesting for a book to make anyone think so much about things like this, which is just one of the reasons that I love these books so much.
It has been suggested that Sigil is a villain, but I don’t think that she is. She’s a victim. She was tortured and experimented on as a child and her creators put in a huge mix of stuff into her DNA and then others got into it and fiddled with it too, which didn’t help at all. She was turned into a psychopath. When she was finally able to gain some hard-won control, she gets chased down and hounded, and then everything is ripped away from her. I think that she’s a victim from the start, not that Sigil would like for me to think that about her, but everyone around her, minus one person, tries to manipulate her and control her for their own purposes, to one extent or another.
I need to so much more to this story. There just isn’t enough to it, not because the books aren’t great or that Addison Cain hasn’t packed plenty into it, but there isn’t enough to it because the story isn’t finished yet. And even when it’s finished, I don’t think that there will be enough for me. I’ll still always be wondering what happens next.
This story keeps you on the edge of your seat! Sigil is a true fish out of water in this book! Thrust into this new life surrounded by men who just want to love her and she wants nothing to do with them. Needless to say it was so interesting to see Sigil form reluctant relationships with Sovereign and the brothers. She is a predator who is now being pampered and somewhat domesticated. However she’s not going down quietly lol! I love that she remains a strong and feisty character! There are quite a few twist and turns in this story but so worth the read! As always Addison Cain does a phenomenal job! Looking forward to the next book!!!
Sovereign is the second book in the Irdesi Empire series. You have to read the first book, Sigil, in the series to understand what’s going on. This is a dark science fiction with some erotica. I’ll warn that some of Sigil’s cannibalistic tendencies skeeved me out, however I love the author Addison Cain so I stuck with it and it was well worth it. I ended up loving how Sigil had enough spunk to deal with all Sovereign’s brothers. So, while she is dealing with and sometimes drowning in her grief, she still has the strength to hold her own. I enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one!
Sigil’s story continues with Sovereign and his brothers, and it’s so much more than the first book. Secret agendas and machinations abound in this sexy sci-fi romance thriller. It’s dark, yet at the same time, it’s captivating, steamy and sexy, and Sovereign and his brothers are a mind-blowing wild bunch, as well as Sigil and the other characters. I didn’t see some of these turns coming – they definitely took me by surprise, but the imagery and the emotions it draws out is fantastic, down to every last vivid detail. I loved this blended genre and love the characters eve more. Amazing balance of sci-fi and romance with dark overtones, and a must-read!
Sovereign was a satisfying and thrilling follow up to Sigil, and if you have not read Sigil, you should do so before reading on, so I don’t spoil any of the fun for you.
Addison Cain has an amazing talent of world building in such a complex way. I am often swept up more by settings and the larger world in the books I read then the story taking place, and so it adds another layer of enjoyment to find her story so compelling as well as the world she’s created to set them in. There is clearly a lot of work and thought put into her writing and I would love to read more on this world’s history and cultures as well as the story she’s actually writing.
The story itself, was amazing. I have followed Ms. Cain in other writing avenues and seen snippets of this story then, but always wanted more, and now she’s giving it to us with such dramatic results. I can’t wait for the next book. I enjoy how she crafts Sigil, who is entirely inhuman from her violent, genocidal tendencies to her cannibalistic moments, and yet she is so human in her vulnerabilities and struggles. She is neither a good, nor a bad person. She is simply very human. Given what we’ve been told of her past, it explains much of her behaviors, but it’s also nice to see that despite that she is trying to grow and learn new ways, that she is relatable and complex.
The interactions between her and her Brothers, the men of her species, is intriguing and exciting as well. It’s hard not to enjoy the exchanges with Tiburon or the ferocity of Sovereign and the oddly tender care of Kharl. The differences are intriguing, and provide a lot of avenues for advancement and fun. I was both excited and sad to see how thr story played out with Arden, who had been something of a favorite of mine, and the twist there, with the children, was not one I saw coming. Another mark in Ms. Cain’s favor as a writer.
In all, a very good sequel, with a lot of development and a good set up for the next book without being too painful of a ending to have to wait on.
This book was amazing. She has once again shown me why she has become my favorite author. A. Cain has an ability to create this sci-fi world that makes you feel like your actually there. I didn’t think the story could get any better and it just did. I can’t wait for part three. Sovereign is my favorite brother and I love how much he loves and adores Sigil. This is an awesome read with awesome sex scenes and highly recommended.
The second version needed an updated review. Enjoy.
We continue after Book 1, just as Sigil awakens after 47 years of sleep. As she mourns a great loss, we learn about her new reality in the clutches of the brotherhood. We follow her to Irdesi Prime, the homeworld of the empire and on who’s moon Sigil and the brotherhood are born on. Sigil not only has to learn how to navigate in the empire but also how to handle her conflicted feeling and instincts to Sovereign and his brothers. It doesn’t help that they are trying to manipulate her so she will accept her role as the imperial consort and mother of the future children. They even went as far as obtaining the Tessan child she was trying to save on Pax. And trouble really start when the Soshiia shows up, a rebellious fraction of the converted humans, of which only Sigil can detect.
It was just as good and dark as the first version, and I have yet to be disappointed by Addison Cain. She writes in such an ensnaring way, that you can’t stop reading, even the horrifying cannibalistic scenes. As a warning the cannibalism is worse in this second installment, so if you have a weak stomach, don’t read.
I thought Sigil was my favorite read… until I read Sovereign. Addison spins a story so dark but so based in our most reckless and honest desires that it is difficult to separate yourself from the story. Sigil’s vulnerability is your own, our own, mine. This story captures the essence of the alpha female and exposes it. At the heart of every strong independent women is still.. a heart; a woman that must know what it is to give and receive love, a woman who is strong because she fears never having those experiences.
Sovereign picks up right where Sigil left off, never skipping about (though perhaps a few decades). Though resigned to a new life, a future she never asked for, Sigil does not wallow. She grieves, she mourns, she moves forward as best she can- still, every wary of the Brotherhood and its motivations. Sigil does what every woman faced with adversity has had to do; she pulls herself together and forges ahead renewed, changed, having grown from her understanding of sacrifice.
The way in which Addison has woven the Brotherhood into Sigil’s existence is done with prolific subtlety, developing each Brother enough to stand on his own but not to distract from Sigil’s story. She conveys adoration and affection without use of nauseating prose. The Brothers end up being stand alone characters, characters whose motives need little explanation.
This story was incredible to begin with but Addison has recently revisited both with rewrites. I was skeptical of any changes she might make, having loved the books so completely, however I can happily say that the rewrites provide improved clarity and a new perspective inside the characters that left me all the more eager for the third installment.
The author once prefaced Sigil’s newest adventure with “Welcome to the Empire” and it couldn’t have been more true. Sigil, bereft of her emotional anchor, is forced to rebuild herself in this new world and its key players while learning the more nuanced social mores of the time. For all the decades has lived and slept, her fumblings are believable and bewildering. It makes for an entertaining ride despite the warning of the series as a dark, erotic affair.
I appreciate the author’s fine crafting of all the male leads and how they interact and play in Sigil’s life. There was none of that annoying testosterone-fueled jostling for affection that would normally derail the main storyline. While each brother was distinct, I found myself not minding so much the end result as the long-term healing of complex Sigil. Addison Cain deftly moves the plot while adding unsavory elements to Sigil that would normally be disturbing but with the finest stroke of the pen, it all makes sense and becomes the driving force of Sigil and her actions; to clarify, I’m talking about her penchant for bipedal flesh and irreverent disregard for mass-scale destruction. Though she has been reforged, it’s nice to see she did not lose her wings and what makes her a compelling character. She kicks ass, takes names, and when the story concludes, there’s no magical ending where she’s completely healed and solved, but there is infinite hope. Sovereign, Kharl, and Tiburon also come into their own. In a terribly conflicting moment, I relished and found myself ecstatic when the titular character finally got his chance in the sun with Sigil. It took me a few evenings to process what all happened near the end and parse my feelings. I would say I am very satisfied with the turn of events and now more so than ever, look forward to what new stories the author creates in this world and others.
A MUST READ!! This is such an in-depth story. This is not a book that you can pick up and read if you haven’t read book 1. As a reader I find myself wanting to grab Sigil by the arms and shake some sense into her but then I remember she was so damaged as a child that probably wouldn’t work anyway! This story took a turn I didn’t see coming and during reading just one of the twists I found myself glued to my seat unable to walk away till it worked itself out. This book ranks at one of the tops of a favorite that does not match other stories out there.
The dark aspects of this story are no joke, if you’re even a little squeamish this story is not for you.
Sigil is swept away from the planet she has destroyed in her unbalanced rage, only to awaken decades later to her grief and despair. There is nothing the Emperor, Sovereign, won’t do for her to prove she is loved and adored by all the Brotherhood, but he keeps secrets he feels she is not ready to accept. His love is true but he hides so much behind a mask that he must wear for the good of the Empire.
The lies.
The truths.
The shocking reveals.
But I come away with a sense of urgency to know what the story has in store for us. There are still so many questions to be answered.
I’ll be honest, I don’t really like this female villain, she’s programmed to be a ruthless warrior. She’s too strong at times, others too weak, but it’s the dark and depraved behaviors that I would never attribute to a female that put me a little off, I suppose. Gives me the shivers!
Anyway, the enemy has fled beyond the Empire’s reach for now and Sovereign has proven once again his unwavering love as he acquiesces to Sigil’s heart shattering wishes. I’m very anxious to see what happens next.
Once again, Addison Cain has captivated her audience. In book 1, we were introduced to Sigil, who was created for a race of men who will do anything to claim her, chasing her through space and waiting lifetimes to find her. They are drawn to her and need her if their race is to continue. I’m not usually a sci-fi fan, but this dark, erotic book hooked me. In Sovereign (Irdesi Empire Book 2), we continue the story and learn more about Sigil, Sovereign and the group of men who love her. In most ways, Sigil is one of the most broken characters I’ve ever met in a story, but there is a strength to her that is addictive. I can’t wait for Ms. Cain to continue this saga.
Update: Ms. Cain has recently updated this book. Her characters have been given more depth, and she answered many questions that I had about the background story. I am anxiously awaiting book 3!
Book two follows Sigil as she is captured by Sovereign. Sigil finds herself reprogrammed and dealing with the loss of Que. Addison has done a good job of capturing the dark in dark romance with this reverse harem story. A cast of men completely devoted to Sigil, even as she fights off everyone and slaughters many? Well done and a fabulous setup for book 3.
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I was really looking forward to this book after having read the first book. I really wanted to know what happened to Sigil/Quinn, what her final fate would be. I was not disappointed at all. In this book, we get to learn more about the Irdesi Empire. You get a better picture of who they are and why they have conquered so many worlds. Also why it’s so imperative that they get Sigil/Quinn to return to them.
The only thing that did throw me off was I thought this book, being title as it is, was going to be from Sovereign’s POV. In a way, I am glad it wasn’t as there was still so much left unanswered from Sigil/Quinn’s POV.
Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and thought it was a good follow-up to the first. If you enjoy a dark romance, this is a good series to check out. However, if you are easily disturbed by darker themes, I would suggest you avoid.
