From Million-Selling Author Robert J. Crane…A demon hunter without a home. A cop without a cause. A seemingly unstoppable evil rising in a small town…WARNING: Due to disturbing content, this series is intended for MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY. Called: Archibald “Arch” Stan was a local cop in Midian, Tennessee that was good at his job. Lafayette Hendricks is a drifter, a broken-down hitchhiker blown … Lafayette Hendricks is a drifter, a broken-down hitchhiker blown through Midian on the prevailing winds. When Arch catches him in a fight on the town square, though, things start to get weird, fast, because the guy he’s fighting doesn’t die when he gets shot.
Pretty soon, Arch’s whole life is turned upside down by Hendricks’s revelation that there’s a secret world operating under the one he’s been living in his whole life – one filled with demons, chaos, and unspeakable evils.
Depths:
When a string of savage and horrific murders committed by demons shocks the town, the unsuspecting Sheriff’s Department scrambles to track down the culprit. Their investigation leads them on a twisting path that sends them up against the forces of hell and may even cost them their lives. Because a new demon has come to Midian, one that has a taste for death…and he may not leave the town standing when he’s done.
Corrupted:
A carnival comes to Midian in the wake of the ever-deepening apocalypse, leaving Arch Stan and Lafayette Hendricks with another problem – a demon that intends to leave the town in ashes.
If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Stephen King, Michael Anderle, Shayne Silvers, Shannon Mayer, or J.R. Rain, you will LOVE the first installment of the Southern Watch series.more
Well. After reading and loving The Girl In/Out of the Box series (up to a point where real life went to sh*t for me, and I really didn’t have any headspace left to read), I thought I had a handle on some of the dark nooks and crannies of RJC’s mind. Boy, was I naive. There were many, many more, and much deeper and darker than I could possibly have dreamed. This man’s imagination is depraved, f*cked-up genius; and I LOVED EVERY WORD!!! I’m so happy I got this 3 book set, as I was able to gobble them up, one after the other, without faffing about with returning then borrowing from KU (much as I love it, that bit IS a pain in my larger-than-it-should-be-but-hey-3-lockdowns arse). Bravo, Mr. Crane! Imma crack on with number 4 now, so stfu until I finish, ‘kay?
I had to read this whole series and am anxiously awaiting the next book.
Interesting to read
Didn’t like it.
Very good storyline! Have purchased several in the series… getting too expensive to go on 3 or 4 dollars is doable though
The storytline and characters we intwresting and the story moved at a good pace. Thoroughly enjoyable read.
Somewhat formulaic, but fast moving
Take a big dose of Harry Dresden, add a handful of Jack Reacher, a couple of cases of assorted demons, a sniper with a big gun, lots of sex (demonic and human), and the bicycle peloton mountain stage from hell, and you have Robert J. Crane’s Southern Watch Series Books 1-3.
This fast paced, non-stop, balls-to-the-wall fight for survival had me cringing on the edge my seat and hiding in the depths of my hammock. Southern Watch is a blast to read, and I haven’t found a read that’s been this much fun, in a long time!
This was my first Robert J. Crane reading experience, and it’s going to cost me a lot of money to read him through.
I was engaged enough with the storyline to read through all three books.
I’m not into Demon books but this set is an awesome read!
This book was painfully slow for me. The characters and plots was interesting enough, but the amount of time dedicated to description really dragged it down. I rarely stop reading a book but couldn’t take this. Total Jim Butcher fan and had hopes but not for me.
Couldn’t make it through the first part of the first book in this collection.
I was happily surprised that this series was a page turner. I read all 3 in one fell swoop. I’m an avid reader, at least 200 pages a day, and am always on the lookout for something that grabs my imagination and keeps it engaged. These books did that no problem!
I’m on the third book of this trilogy. I like the premise of these books – demons, demon hunter, demon “police” sent to prevent the demons from wiping out the entire town, local police clueless except for two officers who stumble on to the secret. What I don’t like is the very bad or complete lack of editing. Takes me right out of the story trying to figure what the author meant to write. And all three books are like this. A good editor could also improve the pace by cutting down the boring bits, giving all the characters a bit more personality, jack up the action some to make three so-so books into one pretty decent read. The author might want to read Richard Kadrey’s Sandman Slim books to see how it’s done.
It COULD have been a good story line, however it was degeneratively vulgar, pornographic, and so below literary intelligence that I couldn’t continue into the 2nd book. I can only imagine the author whacking off as he’s writing his trash works with his “jizz” all over the keyboard.
Great read
An African American wandering the land dressed as a cowboy and carrying a sword. Please.
The series started out looking like a good fantasy series but it declined into nothing but porn with a little supernatural action thrown in. The further into the series the more unreadable it became. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
Entertaining to a point. After the 1st book it became all about sex. I felt as if I was watching a bunch of rabbits go at it. The story itself was pretty good – I wish the author had stuck more to that than the gratuitous sex that everyone associated with demons seems to need.
I enjoyed this series. The characters stand out. The areas are rural American and some times feel like home.
