I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Rose O’Conner a Confederate spy meets Yankee Captain Grant Franks after the war is over and he lets her know he knows who she is. This is a short well-written story of 26 pages, I liked reading it
The story takes place just after the civil war. Our lovely spy has been caught by the Yankee captain. Will she swing from an end of a rope or will fate have other plans? This book is pretty much just a scene in the life of Rose and Grant a lot of heat, but not much more. When I read about the book description gave me the idea that it more of a story then there was. The scene was well-developed, but I am afraid I wanted more story. It is only a 4 star for me I liked the writing. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was a nice quick read. I would have liked more details on how Grant and Rose met but all in all a good read.
3.5 stars
This was a very short read for me, and it was pretty good. I would’ve liked to have a little more story to it. The story line is that she’s a spy during the war, and she gets found out by a captain. the story talks about how these two met each other a year ago, however that’s all that’s said.
it was still a good read, just wished it was longer.
This is a short novella story by Lily Bly. This is a love story between Rose a southern spy and Grant a Captain in the Union army. They have a past. Rant has been looking for her and she didn’t even know it. I give it a 4 because i would have liked it to be a little bit longer. Give us a bit more information. It didn’t disappoint in the love scene.
Quick sexy time piece read. The history shows in the way they talk and the way they are dressed. It was steamy and short. Didn’t need much more to get the plot across
This quick read novella is sweet and spicy! Rose and Grant have had circumstances in the way due to civil war. What will happen now that it is over?
Short, sweet and steamy. I loved every minute of this book even though I read it in less than 30 minutes is was amazing. I love books that get to the point and also includes a lot steam between the main characters. Highly recommended and a fantastic read.
Quick short story that captured your imagination between a spy and soldier. Loved the development of the characters and the fast paced page turner.
This was a cute little short story of a Southern spy who is caught by a Yankee Captain at the end of the war. She doesn’t know what he has planned but he definitely has plans for her. This is full of steamy hot sexy scenes.
Rose O’Connor just wants to go home but has one last job as a spy for the South. Yet when Captain of the Union, Grant Franks steals not only her heart but her freedom, maybe Rose doesn’t want to leave. A good yet very short story that will leave the reader wanting for more. Check it out and her other works.
Short, sexy read about a soldier and a spy. The writing is done well and keeps your attention. The only downside of this story for me was the lack of background information about the characters. The story just starts off quickly and I’d like to have known more about them.
Southern Rose
By Lily Bly
This was a very intense short erotic novella. It had suspense and heat within its story. The characters were pretty fleshed out for such a short story. I really like how it all turned out. It was a pretty fast page tuner which is a good thing for erotica.
We learn that Rose is a Confederate spy after the civil war. Someone is on to her, he knows who she is. After a hot scene, questions are asked. How will it turn out? Well, you will need to read it to find out.
I would give this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I do think that there are some things that could be a little better explained.

This short and sexy story about a Yankee officer and a Confederate spy is set at the end of the American Civil War. It is perfect if you’re looking for a quick shot of sensual, romantic, happiness to keep you going during a busy day.
Focusing on such an intriguing topic as espionage, readers go into Southern Rose by Lily Bly believing there will be an equally intriguing plot and set of characters. In reality, both are lacking.
First off, the length of the novel is much to short to even consider it so. It’s more of a short story, which, if I had gone into the story knowing that is what it was, I wouldn’t be as confused or critical of some aspects that are more for novels than short stories. The plot is rushed, everything happening bam bam without any second to spare savoring any of it. And that’s the problem. The story is super sweet and romantic, but the reader misses much of it because it passes by as if they are in a train looking out as the scenery zooms by. It leaves you feeling winded and unsatisfied, which is NOT what the author was probably going for. Also, the shortness of it also means that not a lot happens. Literally, there are only about four different scenes, most of which they don’t spend more than two minutes in. The last one they stay in for most of the duration of the story, and it is here the reader gets the meat of what is going on. Even that scene gives a sense of unfulfillment, as it leave the reader wishing the story could have started at an earlier point to give them the joy of experiencing the story along with the characters when it happened instead of just merely hearing about it after the fact. This brings us to the characters, or lack thereof. Usually, a character-driven plot shows developement of its characters through plot, but the point at which Bly has decided to begin inables the reader to see the characters truly have growth. They have to make a choice, but the choice should have been the climax and the events leading up to it rising actions. By eliminating this, it takes away from the characters struggle between loyalty and love. Though it did not hurt the plot or its effectiveness, only having two characters does make the story a little less colorful and diverse. Nonetheless, in the end I really did enjoy the characters it did have. I would have enjoyed the story much more if the reader could get to know the characters a little more. I’ve rated it a three and would tentatively recommend It.
