Review:
I have read this series from the very first book, and it is one of my favorite series. I love the characters, the setting and the mystery.
The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. Verity is one strong woman, she has to be to be able to deal with all of the things going on in her life. Frankie is one stubborn, gruff ghost but you can tell that he has a soft spot for Verity, but he would never admit it. And Lucy, the skunk, is one of my all time favorite cozy animals.
The writing style flows smoothly and the stories are an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the book right away. She is also very talented in creating suspense and tension with the written word.
This anniversary edition contains the first 2 books and a novella in the series. It also includes deleted scenes, which I found very interesting and had me wondering why they were deleted. There is also a little insight into a few of the characters, which I enjoyed. There were examples of illustrations of the book cover for first book and it was like I was getting a look at the process first hand, which was great.
I would highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a well written cozy series. This anniversary edition has enough special treats to make it worth your buying.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and provided my honest review.
Southern Ghost Hunter Series: 5th Anniversary Special Edition by Angie Fox features the first three novels in the series along with special bonus content. Southern Spirits, A Ghostly Gift and The Skeleton in the Closet are the three stories in this special edition. For newcomers to the series, this is your opportunity to get these three charming tales in one handy volume. For fans and neophytes alike, you will enjoy the special content which includes sketches (the layout of Verity’s house is one example). We also get a more in-depth look at the characters along with deleted scenes that feature our major players (Verity, Frankie, Ellis and Lucy). There is a juicy scene that did not make it into Southern Spirits will hopefully appear in an upcoming book. Frankie shocked Verity with some surprising information. There is a sweet deleted scene featuring the adorable Lucy. We also get a look at early book covers. I must say I liked the third rendition of Southern Spirits better than the final version. I especially appreciated the author’s insights. All three stories are delightfully entertaining. I laughed often while reading these paranormal whodunits (which is high praise from me). There is a preview of The Haunted Heist included at the end. I cannot wait for Southern Bred to come out this year. Southern Ghost Hunter Series: 5th Anniversary Special Edition has a gangster ghost, a dashing deputy, a malevolent mama, a sweet skunk, a rocky romance, and a feisty female protagonist.
I love the series. Verity and Frankie are fun to read about. The extras are really neat. You get to know some of the characters better and the deleted scenes are fun to read. I also liked the drawing of Verity ‘s house layout.
It is such a riot with Frankie and Verity. Also Love Verity’s skunk.
Love this series Great way to visit the Roaring 20’s spend time with the spirit of a dead gangster. If you love ghost stories This is the book for you to read fun and scary and brings you to the other side. Part of a series but a great stand alone read.
I love all of Angie Fox books. Always waiting for the next one to come out.
Nice easy read. Great for a relaxing read.
I’d forgotten how wonderful this story was! I’d read Southern Spirits just about four years ago and loved it and can’t figure out why I didn’t see when the other books had come out. This is a box set contains the first three stories in the series, plus some never before seen content like older covers, deleted scenes, and sneak peeks at the entire series and how it came about.
I definitely recommend this entire series if you’re a fan of cozy mysteries, spirits, cute pets, and slow burn romance.
Ms. Fox has done an outstanding job not only with the writing and characters, but the setting. It’s so beautifully described that I can actually picture myself walking in the town of Sugarland and seeing things like the town library with the cannonball in the wall, the resale shop where Verity helped a ghost find his lost love, and her ex’s house up on the hill looking down on everyone.
**I received an ARC of this story from NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review. After receiving this ARC from NetGalley, I purchased a copy from Amazon.
I enjoy all of the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries.
Enjoyed. Loved the ghost. Funny and a little scary.
An easy read with good character development.
Easy summer read
Charming, sweet and spooky!
Always a fun read
This whole series is terrific! I have read them all! The relationships are great! Very heart warming at times and scary at others! Well done and well written!
It leaves you with a smile.
Great summer beach and pool reads.
I love the entire series. What’s not to love about it? Snarky heroine, ghosts, a hunky cop, his hateful mother and a skunk. Captures my attention from the first page to the last, and I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series!
I enjoy the premise of the gangster ghost reluctantly helping to solve crimes in both the living and ghostly worlds. The overlapping planes are interesting, I am busy reading all of the books in this series.
The author is a wonderful story teller. The characters are quirky and funny. You get “lost” in the story.
