It was supposed to be a new beginning — good job, good pay, and a lovely home in North Carolina.
But when Max Porter discovers his office is haunted by the ghost of a 1940s detective, he is thrust neck-deep into a world of old mysteries and dangerous enemies.
One in which ghosts, witches, curses, and spells exist. One in which a simple research job can turn deadly.
This is a really fun pulp fiction read. I expected to like the ghost best, but Max Porter, the detective, won me over. This is one of those reads that picks up steam and imaginative situations as it goes. The characters also grow through the book, and quickly, so you aren’t stuck wishing they’d get smarter. Max caught on fast to the new world …
I discovered Stuart Jaffe’s Paranormal-Mystery series just before book 6, Southern Curses was released. The main characters are husband and wife and a ghost detective who adds a Noir flavor to the stories. The characters may have some special abilities but Stuart does a great job of letting us experience their day to day lives and the interaction, …
Southern Bound by Stuart Jaffe is a delightful mix of mystery, history, and paranormal activity. I was drawn to the cover: Trenchcoat, Fedora, glowing eyeballs. It didn’t disappoint. A teacher, Max Porter, and his wife move south to start over after an error in judgment causes him to lose his job. He takes a research job that deals with local …
A fun paranormal, whodunit. I liked that it didn’t take long for the main characters to accept the paranormal events going on around them. This allowed the story to progress in a more interesting fashion, IMHO. This book was very enjoyable and kept me guessing.
I don’t usually read anything paranormal but this premise caught me from the start and I enjoyed every minute. It’s a bit noir, a bit romance, and a lot of mystery that keeps the reader guessing right up until the end. Max and Sandra leave Michigan for North Carolina where they meet a former detective who is now a ghost. There have been …
Look before you leap.
Max has a lot of things to worry about: powerful families, ghosts, witches all come together in this original, easy to read story, with interesting characters. Looking forward to more books in this series.
This was a fun book to enjoy. The title takes on new meanings after reading the book. A ghost story is combined with a mystery to challenge a young couple who relocated to the old south to flee from troubles in the North.
Great first book to a great series
Interesting story but not very well written.
