She’s far from normal… an in-depth knowledge of the supernatural world. That’ll happen when your dad’s a vampire and step-mother’s an angel.
When Evergreen Park calls her in a way that’s far from normal—supernatural even—she fights it, trying to keep her human roots, but the call is powerful and driving her nuts.
Even armed with willpower of steel, she can’t stay away…even when she finds a dead body next to the swing set.
Aron, the Angel of Death, has been watching Lily from afar. There’s something about her that brings warmth to his heart, but their worlds are too different for anything more than his admiration of this human. When he goes to Evergreen Park to claim a murder victim’s soul and finds Lily leaning over the dead body, he struggles to keep his distance.
But when Lily looks up at him with her sweet, teary eyes, he can’t help but step into her world and officially introduce himself.
Only Lily knew the soul he came to claim, and there is a clear connection between her and the victim. A connection that puts Lily’s life at risk. Even being the Angel of Death, Aron can’t allow this beautiful woman’s perfectly normal life to end.
You’ll love this romantic paranormal mystery because it takes a look at the expression, “love conquers all.”

The Angels of Sojourn is a fab series and this third book is a fab addition to it! Well written, fast paced with a great storyline this one is about Lily and Aron and it is just great and very addictive!
This is the final book in a three novel, four novella series about angels and the other creatures that live in shadows. Though you don’t have to read the rest to read this one, you’d enjoy it more as many of the previous books characters show up or are mentioned. Also, they’re just fun.
Souls and Shadows follows Aron and Lily and their unique romance that crops up during an investigation that spans both of their worlds. Aron is an Angel of death, tasked primarily with guiding new angels to their next path, but also with transporting souls to their next stage. Lily is the daughter of Fin, the half-angel half-vampire we meet in book 1. The investigation is regarding several bizarre seemingly unconnected murders and a spirit that refuses to leave the world of the living.
It’s a fun story with a very interesting take on the angel of death and the afterlife both. I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and this finale did it justice. I loved both Aron and Lily to pieces and was quite happy to see them get their happy ending. I would like to know more about the Unfortunate as he intrigued me greatly. If you enjoy some darkness with your light and a sweet romance paired with a murder investigation, give this book a go!
Also, it’s a clean romance, in case anyone needs that info. The whole series is.
Souls & Shadows: Angels of Sojourn, Book Three by Joynell Schultz is an amazing story that I have read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I loved reading and I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about vampiers and angels.

Lily has a vampire for a father, a fallen angel for a stepmom, a room full of second graders that she loves and a new ability that she does not understand. Any wonder that Lily is a little stressed out. Can she find someone who understands her? Is there anyone on the earth that she can rely on besides her father and stepmother. This story will change everything for Lily and propel her into situations that will test her. A very well written story that keeps you interested and turning pages long after bedtime. Highly recommend to all cozy paranormal story lovers.
Joynell Schultz has a wonderfully light take on vampires, angels – fallen and unfallen, and werewolves – why should that be any different for the angel of death? Traditionally, the angel of angel is the quiet, angst-filled dark badass who never feels emotion. Who expected her to bring Joe Black (from the 1998 movie ‘Meet Joe Black’ to life?

Lily O’Brian was always late for her dates. She promised James that this time she would show up on time. But a meeting with a parent was very important to her, especially since her student, Ben Thomas, had changed from a bright second grade student to one fell asleep or stared out the window, assuming he even made it to class at all. His father ignored all attempts to meet. His mother finally agreed but had not shown up despite several phone calls which went unanswered. Lily waited 47 minutes before she gave up. As she got up, Mrs. Thomas arrived, almost completely disinterested in what Lily had to say. Lily texted James she was on her way, but he was not happy at being put at the bottom of her list of what was important.
For weeks, Lily had been getting strange sensations: gut twisting, chest tingling, heart thumping, and an uneasiness crawling through her skin, making the hair on her arms stand on end. It happened again while she was driving. She had dreamed about a park every night for over a month, and she was drawn to that park now. She saw nothing strange, so she went to the coffee shop to meet James. With her being an hour late, James had finally left.
Aron, an Angel of Death, stood before the Underworld’s gate with the silver strands of his latest capture’s soul wrapped around his fist to deliver to Darron the Gatekeeper. He had done this job for 50 years, but he still hated the trips to the Underworld. While he and Darron were talking, he got a vision of a woman he had to “collect”.
Lily had two lattes, then drove toward home. But again the park called to her. She moved toward the trees and found the body of a woman on her side. The woman had a pool of blood beneath her and held something that looked like a medieval dagger in her hand.
Hidden in the shadows of Sojourn, Aron stood over the woman’s body and waited for her life to drain away before he took her soul. He heard a woman’s voice and Lily ran up to the victim! Aron had been watching Lily from afar for six months, since he had first seen her at a wedding he had supervised between a fallen angel and a vampire – Lily’s father. Lily was destined to be an angel after she died. She had special blood, inherited from her biological mother, which she was unaware of and which made her not quite human. But something about her warms his heart. She was kind and loving to children. He tried to keep his distance from her because of his feelings for her. Lily started CPR and didn’t see Aron wrap the silver strings of her soul around his hand. A tear went down her cheek and her heart went out to Mrs. Thomas’ son, Ben, who just lost his mother.
Because Lily had a connection with the victim, her life is now at risk. Aron cannot interfere with a death. Who murdered Mrs. Thomas? What secret is Lily unaware of that puts her in danger? Will Lily lose her life? Will Aron find a way to intervene? This was a terrific book and very well written. The characters are presented so well that they take on a life of their own for the reader. The scenes are so well described that they feel real! Grab your copy of this excellent book and solve the mystery – but hurry before Lily runs out of time!
Souls and Shadows by Joynell Schultz is the third book in the Angels of Sojourn series but can be read as a stand alone book. This book focuses on the relationship of Lily O’Brian and Aron the Angel of Death. This story was so entrancing that I was hooked within the first two chapters. The characters Lily and Aron were so aptly portrayed throughout this book they read like real people. The story was very engaging and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what happens next. This book has a little bit of everything so this makes it a great story for anyone who loves a well written romantic paranormal tale set in an interesting and unusual paranormal world. Souls and Shadows is an amazingly exciting paranormal tale!
Aron is an Angel of Death – one whose main purpose is to retrieve either souls for the Fortunate, the Unfortunate, or other special cases. He first met Lily at the wedding between her father – a vampire/angel hybrid who is an ER physician, and her step-mother Ava – a fallen angel.
Her biological mother died during childbirth, making the first 20-odd years of her life a dad and Lily show, with lingering pain and loneliness for both Lily and her dad – and a great deal of caution, for fear he might be hunted by other vampires.
Apparently Lily also has sort sort of special blood/gifts from her mother, which her father never told her.
Too bad – as a school teacher she could have used extra powers and strengths.
Aron is smitten with Lily, and this seems to be no end of complications for them. He sometimes gathers souls for the unfortunate, sometimes for the fortunate – and he is forbidden to interfere with the deaths.
Lily seems to be drawn to areas where there might be a powerful dark force, much like her grandmother.
She could be useful to Aron as he tries to retrieve a slippery soul with unfinished business, that does not care whom she hurts while trying to keep her ill husband alive.
A tricky and dangerous path for these two and their extended family and friends circle.
Lily has a chance to discover hidden strengths – is she can stay alive – and more, if she trusts herself, her feelings and her Angel Aron.
a realm transcending KU story of many kinds of love – some with darker, some possibly more on the side of light.

Souls & Shadows #3 – Another hard to put down story from a good author. We have met Lily from Blood & Holy Water and Aron from Fur & Feathers and some minor characters, too. Well written with a fast pace and an imaginative approach to this common genre. The descriptions still pull the reader into the story, along with realistic dialog and mature behavior; none of that stupidity formulas that is so common nowadays. Although not necessary, I recommend reading all the Angels of Sojourn books in order. This is one of the better series available. It’s hard to give a review on this series without wanting to give spoilers. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 5*
Angels of Sojourn Series:
Burnt & Broken – I had to read all the Angels of Sojourn books that I had. Ms. Schultz just has a way about her: her writing style; her realistic characters; her understated sexual tension between characters; and her infrequent use of vulgar language. This is a well written story complete with a well thought out plot and believable dialog that moves at a fast pace. I appreciate that while the angels once were human, they don’t behave as humans; sex, vulgar language and all the other stupidity. Her angels behave as angels, even the “tainted” or fallen angels are good, they’re just in a gray area. Their mistakes were actually to help someone in need or pain. There is plenty of suspense and intrigue in this short story. 5*
Blood & Holy Water #1 – I couldn’t put this book down without a fight. Another well written, well thought out story concerning an unusual vampire (I like what was done with this character) and a wingless angel. Enemies with the same goal, but different results gained, work together to solve the deaths of potential angels and murdered vampires, and the ties between the two groups. The characters are realistic and both have morals and ethics. The angel goes a little gray, but there’s so much involved in her decisions in trying to help the humans and potential angels. There’s intrigue and suspense, and the book moves at a fast pace. There’s sexual tension, but no sex – thank goodness this author treats angels as angels not sex starved humans without morals – and very infrequent vulgar language. 5*
Fangs & Fairy Dust #1.25- I enjoy Ms. Schultz’s stories, which I discovered in Hexes and Ohs, and was happy to find this collection. This is a well written and believable novella introducing the Angels of Sojourn Series, of which Blood & Holy Water is the first book. The main characters, a male vampire and a female human and her mother, are interesting and believable, along with action and dialog. It is fast paced and contains vivid descriptions making everything easy to visualize. Fortunately, it is not a cliffhanger. 4*
Fur & Feathers #2 – Read Blood & Holy Water and Bitten first before reading this book since the characters continue with their lives in this story. The Angels of Sojourn has been an interesting series of books. Well written with interesting storylines and characters woven with a vivid imagination to keep the reader immersed in the pages. I was not lucky enough to read these books in sequence, but I still enjoyed all the stories. Each adds to a wonderful, intriguing and mesmerizing world that runs the gamut of emotions, and actions and consequences, complete with a constantly moving pace. I contacted the author to review her books and have purchased her books, too. 5*
Flame & Fortune #2.5 – Another good addition to the Angels of Sojourn Series. Different from the other books in this series, this one is about embezzlement and second chances. She’s sent to earth to distract a human without knowing why. The story is fast paced, with good characters and dialog, and good storylines. There is emotion ranging from grief to happiness. I’ve read this series out of order and never felt lost or had spoilers ruining the other books. I contacted the author to review her books. 4*
Angels of Sojourn Series end.
Tales of Fairy Godmothers Series:
Trapped #2- Another lovely, heartwarming novella about trust, love and kindness, and loneliness. Almost dead when saved by one boy after his brother captured the fairy in a vent less jar while hunting for bugs. Cared for by the human until she returns to her fairy world, she returns every year on her birthday seeking the human boy. Their friendship grows and they learn of each other and their worlds. On her second to last trip back, their friendship is shaken. Making her last wish to encompass four days in his world, they sort, work and love their friendship back. There’s humor and sadness, but also joy in this well written, full of vivid descriptions novella. I contacted the author to review her books and received this through Booksprout. 5*
Hidden #1- A lovely, heartwarming novella about discovery, love and kindness, and loneliness. Searching for her baby’s father leads a pregnant fairy to new adventures and learning experiences, and a vast change to her life, while she shares her godmother skills without her magic. There’s plenty of humor and danger included in this sweet story. 5*
