Really fun read!!
I HOPE YOU CARRY DUCT TAPE!!!
Ok guys, are you ready for me. I think not, but I’m here to stay. So pull up a seat and sit a while. You know me well enough by now to know I love jumping in head first. Lets keep the fun going shall we. This one hit the ground running. You have a whirlwind of destruction coming and not sure if you can keep the loss to a minimum. You have a multitude of drama, deceit, lies and betrayal with a gut wretching realisation that there is no safe haven. The world as you knew it is crumbling at your feet with no idea who to trust and allies are growing thin. The characters and scenes were realistic, intriguing and complex with an undeniable connection. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it was so life like and real that you felt you could reach out and touch it. With danger and suspense dogging your every step, you make every move count. Twists, turns and unexpected surprises that kept me captivated from the start. Following the characters along as their personalities blossomed and grew to become a force to be reckoned with. A strong storyline that moves smoothly as the plot thickens. Flowers did a remarkable job bringing this read to life. Great job Flowers and thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
This made for a very fun way to spend an afternoon, as I got lost in a very intriguing world. I particularly liked the take on a lot of topics in this one, such as souls, gods and more along those lines, as it made me think quite a bit. It’s also a beautiful, magical world that I felt would be amazing to watch on the screen. Would make a fun couple of movies or miniseries, I expect.
Plan to read on in the series.
4 stars.
Note:
I listened to the audiobook—what a stellar performance! Am now a fan of this narrator.
5-star performance.
Soul Bound by A.J. Flowers is the first in the Dwellers series.
This is also a first from this Author for me. I found the story concept very intriguing and enjoyed the characters. Great world building and kept me interested from start to finish. Looking forward to more in this series!
I offered to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, I can be critical of narrators. Especially when books have a single narrator required to speak with different voices for multiple characters. Most cannot do it without having some errors where they use the wrong ‘voice’ for the wrong character. I am a true believer in the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great book and have turned away several books with good ratings because of just that. The narrator in this book did a great job, so I was able to listen to the book without issue.
Next is the story. I am not one to give a lot of specific story details since I feel you should read the story for that, and in this case, you won’t be disappointed. This is book 1 in a paranormal series, which has great characters and an interesting storyline with lots of intrigue and suspense and will keep you listening until the story ends, or at least book 1 of the story. Trust me, if you are into paranormal suspense books, you definitely won’t be disappointed!
I received a free review copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thought this book is good I had a hard time following at times. The switch between worlds was hard to keep up with where I was and I’m not sure if it was the narration that was making it difficult though. Overall I think if I was able to give this book my complete focus it would have been better for me but with audiobooks I like to multi task so that was not the case.
Thane one of the main characters melds his soul with Jacob a young human man in order to save the gods. Thane and Jacob become nearly one over the years as their souls mesh. It turns out Jacob’s soul is ancient and somehow the savior that Thane is seeking to save the god’s. I enjoyed how Thane and Jacob meshed together. The author did a fantastic job with their characters and dropping enough clues to understand how they are one body and two souls.
I was a bit confused with the ather and how that worked. I love the idea of it but wish the author had given more information on that earlier in the story. Overall, it’s an epic journey embarked on by Jacob and Thane. They meet some interesting creatures with plenty of action and adventure. I think the narrator’s pacing and voice do the story justice.
Soooo weeeird. But I like weird.
I wanted to like this book. I really did. The world-building and concepts are both unusual and very good. It’s refreshing to read something other than those boring elves.
Unfortunately, despite the claims of the author in the acknowledgements, it’s hard to believe that this book ever saw a beta-reader, a critique group, or an editor. There was literally an error on every page. Every single page. Errors in grammar, errors in word usage, errors in missing words, errors in spelling, errors in vocabulary. Every page. It kept throwing me out of the story.
If the author works with a real editor, or even takes advantage of both spell-check and grammar-check in her writing program, her future books will be better. The foundation is there.
Interesting spin… I liked very much.
You’d never have to hit me over the head with a bottle to read the second book in this series!!! Such awesome worldbuilding and what a unique story premise. I def recommend!
