Survival. Who would have known it would be so hard?I went into my senior year thinking I had the world at my feet. I was going to graduate top of my combat class, just like my daddy did. I was going to kick all the vampire ass I could get my hands on and I was going to defy all the odds.I was going to be the designated queen of The Guard Academy.I was such a delusional fool.My world went up in … a delusional fool.
My world went up in flames the second my scorching hot combat instructor stepped into my life. Rylan Neill is a God in the eyes of The Guard and instantly had me feeling things a student should never feel for her teacher.
He’s forbidden, but what does it matter? He hates me. I see it in his gold-speckled eyes. He thinks I’m weak. He thinks I don’t have what it takes to make it in a world dominated by men, but I’ll show him.
When horrors of my past come back to haunt me, I find that maybe I’m not as strong as I always thought I was. Surviving was once about making it to the end of my senior year, but it turns out that survival is a much bigger game, one I’m not sure I’m cut out to play.
What I do know is that training to becoming a killer has never been so much fun.
Dive into the world of The Guard Academy and kick back for an action-packed adventure that will have you laughing out loud, throwing your kindle across the room, scooting to the edge of your seat, and falling deeply in love with every last character.

This book sucked me in right from the start. What an amazing read. While reading, I found that Soul and Disaster has a medley of buffy the vampire slayer, The Vampire Academy series and a bit of the Hives Trilogy books that i love.
Bianca wants to become a guardian but needs to prove herself to all the boys being the only girl in her final year in combat class. Between her full schedule of combat training and school, falling for her teacher, her shenanigans with her BFF Lucy and friends Trey and Daniel, you can’t help to fall in love with this story and all these wonderful characters like i did. Grab this gem, sit back and enjoy your read!

Predictable plot and ending
When I first started reading this book, I expected much more from the author. She gave a good introduction to the character, Bianca, but within 3 chapters, I could predict how the book would end. If I were a tween or teenage, I might like the book, especially if I had a crush on one of my teachers. There was little character growth, and the story emphasized how teenagers let their emotions control their lives, giving them taciturn approval that breaking rules is OK. After the 10th chapter, I had to force myself to finish the book in order to give it a full review, but came away even more disappointed.
Unless the author can do something to help the characters in the book mature, I wouldn’t waste my time reading the next one in the series.

Book review of Soul and Disaster: Slayer Academy (Book 1) by Cassidy Summers
Just WOW!
It was a slow start getting into this book but once I was in … I was IN! Bianca is a dynamic character with lofty goals & a whole LOT of sassitude. She does not that sh!t from anyone and she is finally where she has always dreamed of being … Senior Year @ The Guard Academy! Oh & she got her specialization … Combat Training! She has been working towards this for at least 9 years! With her best friends Jacinta, Trey & Daniel by her side she thinks the world is her oyster.
Daniel springs that he has real feelings outside of friendship on her after she has started developing feelings for someone she shouldn’t even be thinking about!
There were more than a few times I teared up while reading this book. It is well written with engaging enough characters that I actually felt the sadness, fury, rage, panic & pain right along with the character! I can’t wait for the next book!
I received this as an Advance reader copy with the hopes I would read it & review it.
I have to say that while the first book in this series took me a little while to get into this one jus grabbed me by the hand and made me run with it. While the book did not really meet up with the description that was given when I was looking at the book it was worth the read. Bianca’s character has really come a long way through the series and I am looking forward to where it is going to go in the next book.

Bianca is my favorite kind of heroine. She’s funny, sassy and can totally kick butt but she’s also vulnerable when she needs to be. Rylan is your typical bloody and moody guy but I can tell there’s more underneath it all. I’m excited to see where this goes.
This story is for the YA readers. We have some drama, with some heartache. It’s senior year at the academy, and Bianca, Jacinta, Daniel, and Trey are still best of friends. Ryan is a new instructor that Bianca can not take her eyes off of, but of course the first time they meet she spills coffee on him. There’s heart ache that comes back to haunt her and plus anew heartache her mother kept from her. What will she do with her feelings for Ryan? Why does he come off as a jerk? What will she do now that her past is coming back to haunt her? What is she going to do with the feelings Daniel has for her? Can they still be friends? Can she pass her test on her eighteens birthday?

Bianca is a senior at The Guard Academy with her 3 best friends–Jacinta, Trey & Daniel. The first day of classes she forgets her phone in her room & rushing to get there she literally runs in to a solid wall, or rather what turns out to be solid muscle of hotness. Her final class of the day is combat training & she’s the only girl with nine boys. Four of those boys are Trey, Daniel, her ex-boyfriend & his best friend. The two teachers come in & she knows the female, Tessa, who used to be her dad’s partner in the Guard. The other one is the man that she spilled coffee all over that very morning, Rylan. Daniel has feelings for Bianca, but she doesn’t feel it for him as she has a crush on Rylan. Her attraction to Rylan increases every day, and he always seems to be around when she gets in trouble or causes trouble. When she finds out that her father had an affair with his partner, she finally lets her anger get the better of her & slaps her across the face. When she turns 18, she’s supposed to have a Navigation test where she has 48 hours where she has to spend it with Tessa. When she shows up the morning she’s to leave for the test, she finds Rylan waiting on her & will be who takes her out to supervise the Navigation test. During the test, they both give in to their attraction with a super steamy kiss. It’s absolutely forbidden for them to be together as student & teacher.
As a child, Biance witnessed her father’s murder at the hands of a vampire. She keeps hearing stories about a vampire who forces children to watch the murder of their parent(s). Bianca knows it has to be the same one, and on an outing with her classmates, they hear noises & she knows it’s the vampire who killed her father so they run in.
I love academy stories & this one didn’t disappoint me. I loved all of the characters. Some of the story is more focused on classes & Biana’s obsession with Rylan, but I didn’t think it took away too much from the story. I can’t wait for book 2 to be release.
New and exciting series where you are training to become one of the Guard. Odds are not in Bianca’s favor, as a girl, but she can hold her own. This story just flew off the pages as I sank deeper into the characters’ lives. The love hate relationship between Rylan and Bianca had me gritting my teeth and rushing thru to the end where we get a HFN ending. Looking forward to seeing where this series takes off from here.

This book was amazing! It pulled me in and I felt like I could relate to the main character on many on the parts. Too bad we can’t all kick butt like her. The boy dilemma is funny and had me frustrated at parts too. It was well written and I’m excited to read what will happen next!
This book was a gripping read with phenomenal characters and an action packed storyline. I could not put this book down!
Bianca had lots of dreams for her senior year at Slayer Academy. Her goal was to become designated queen of The Guard Academy. She was ready! But unfortunately, being female, she must first prove herself to the boys. And when she falls for her teacher, Rylan Neill, who doesn’t seem to like her and thinks she’s weak, things might just be more difficult. With a full schedule of combat training and classes, falling for a hostile teacher, and the adventures she gets into with her friends, you’ll laugh out loud and love every minute of her story. She still thinks, by the way, that training to be the ultimate killer is still the best fun she’s had! That should tell you something!
This was a fun story that is a pleasure to read. The characters are wonderful and likable, the pacing is good, and there is so much to draw the reader in! Grab your copy and have fun with this one!
I honestly didn’t expect this book to capture my heart as much as it did! It was freaking amazing!!
Bianca is a feisty girl training in her last year to become a soldier in the fight against supernaturals. She has a temper that gets her into trouble. A heart that causes her to hide a terrible secret so the ones she loves can cope with the loss of her father without worrying about her. Her friends Jacinta, Trey, and Daniel are as loyal as friends can be and try to reel her in so she doesn’t get into too much trouble. Being 18 comes with a whole lot of drama. Boys, drama, graduating. Not to mention a good looking combat instructor that is strictly off limits.
This book literally had me laughing out loud so much, but also I cried a little towards the end. There’s also adventure and battles. And so much more.
I definitely recommend this story and can’t wait for the second one to come out!! A must read.
Cassidy Summers has done an amazing job with this book.
I fell in love with the characters and the detailed descriptions of the environment made me feel like I was there watching everything going on.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
