Sorrow’s Queen was a novella, but it packs a punch. His job was to deliver Marcus King’s Queen. She is jail bait, but in six weeks she’ll be eighteen and married to the mobster. Queen is distraught that her parents arranged her marriage to a dirty old man. Sorrow finds the lines becoming blurred as he spends time with her. Will he be selfish and keep her or is he able to deliver Queen to Marcus King?
With each new book in the Cavalieri Della Morte series I have fallen for each assassin and didn’t think they could surprise me anymore until Tristan Sorrow. There was no preparing for the twists and turns Sorrow and Queen’s story would take me on. I laughed, rooted for them and shed a few tears along the way. The authors layered so much emotion in to this heartgripping read that I feel like I was put through the wringer. Heartbreaking, steamy and poignant Sorrow’s Queen packed quite the punch, took me by surprise and was a hauntingly beautiful way to end this series.
This series. I have said it on every review for this series – but they just get better and better. This book was done with 2 authors and it was amazing. You can always expect darkness with this series and it had it and so much more. It drags you into Tristan and Sophie’s story and keeps you until the last word. What a delicious tale of a man being forced to complete a task and a woman who knows it was coming but couldn’t prepare for it. This duo should work together more. Their book was a fantastic addition to an amazing series.
Tristan and Sophie are in quite the predicament. He has to complete a job and she is the job. The drama, darkness and overall situations will make you keep turning pages at lightning speed. Sorrow had tough decisions to make – and she makes it even harder to make the right decision.
Absolutely, jaw droppingly great book that makes you love the darkness and crave it!!
“Roses have thorns, and water can drown you. ”
I didn’t think there could be any more “OMG” moments in this series that I wasn’t prepared for.
Blood, violence, dub con – these are all things I expected. Sorrow and Queen though –
I was not prepared for their story.
When this journey started I contemplated all the ways I could make Sorrow pay. I’m serious. I get the whole alpha attitude, but Sophie was an innocent. Sure, she was a handful but let’s be honest she was only fighting against the tyranny and the extremely outdated belief that it was okay to use her as currency.
Man up Tristan!
I did question Arthur’s approval of Tristan’s assignment. Sophie isn’t quite 18 yet and she is not a willing participant to the original assignment.
I was not prepared for the twists in this story line. When our lovely author threw my emotions under the blade I felt every strike, deep. Even though this was a short story I was attached to the characters. Our anti-hero, what can I say he was salvageable.
For those who are looking at this series for the first time – it contains some OMYW , lots of violence, rivers of crimson and some dub as well as non , and a few other possible triggers.
Oh and most have some sort of Happy For Now.
(Yeah I am laughing with that part)
Sorrow’s Queen gives us Tristan and Sophie’s story.
This novella was heartbreaking at times. Sorrow’s job was simple. He had a job. Grab(Kidnap) “Queen” aka Sophie and deliver her to his boss. Only the kidnapper didn’t expect to develop feelings for the beautiful captive. There is more to the story and interwoven storyline. Yet it is intense, forbidden, steamy, poignant, heartbreaking , short but packed full of action and feels. Great addition to the Cavalieri Della Morte series.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *******
OMG! Such a sad and intense story. This book totally captivated me from the first page. Tristian and Sophie’s story is one that will break you. This book is everything and more. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

Sorrow’s Queen (Cavalieri Della Morte series) by Ashleigh Giannoccaro & Murphy Wallace. Tristan Sorrow’s job is to kidnap Sophie Queen and deliver her to Marcus King crime lord. Sophie’s parents promised their 18 year old virginal daughter to save their lifestyle. While driving from picking up Queen to deliver her, Sorrow discovers the parents have changed their mind. Now Sorrow and Queen have to hide out from not only the law but her betrothed enemies. As the trip progresses the tension between Sorrow and Queen grow. Once they cross that line things really become dangerous. The conclusion to their journey wasn’t what I expected. By the end I was an emotional wreck. Unfortunately this was the end of the Cavalieri Della Morte series. I have enjoyed every book some more than others. This book definitely tugged at my heart strings just like Martyris which just so happens to be mentioned in this book. 5 stars for me.
Part of the Cavalieri Della Morte Series, Tristian Sorrow is one of Arthur Calthorpe’s Assassins. Tristian is hunting a girl, Sophie “Queenie”, for Marcus King. He thinks it an easy job until he meets this Queenie. Can he do his job or will everything change when he catches this feisty girl? This is a short novella but still an enjoyable read and as all the books in this series just as steamy. A little different from the others but I won’t ruin anything for you. Told in dual POV
This novella was a quick read that packs a punch! The title is so fitting to the story and I loved Tristan and Sophie.
I really loved this one, Tristian Sorrow has one huge assignment deliver the girl Sophie who is one feisty girl and digs her way inside Sorrows very dark empty soul. It is a terrifying situation as now the hunt is on. The feelings these characters give us is beyond beautiful and so perfect and gut wrenching all at the same time I don’t think I would ever get enough they are so good together my heart actually hurts. The development and descriptions are perfection and just flows from one page to the other and I loved it.
This book destroyed me; it ripped my heart out, stomped on my soul and left me in awe. In essence, it is an absolute must read on emotional impact alone.
The character development was solid. I would have wished for a little more but it was strong enough between the two main characters that I felt a genuine connection, especially as the book progressed. The world building was intricate. I loved the details the authors put into it.
The storyline is hard to rate. On one hand, it felt rather rushed and I would have preferred more depth. However, there can be no denying that by the end I was reaching for the tissues, cursing the authors, and staring off into space after the last word.
Emotionally, this book is a 6 star read. On the more technical side, I would rate it a solid 4 stars.
4.5 stars overall for a deadly emotional read!
It’s no surprise that I’m loving the Cavalieri Della Morte series, and Sorrow’s Queen was a perfect addition. This book is beautiful as much as it is gut wrenching. These talented authors will take you on an emotional journey that is Tristan and Sophie. Be warned, this book is sure to break your heart
Sorrows Queen by Ashleigh Giannoccaro & Murphy Wallace is the final book in the Cavalieri Della Morte series! I must say I was a little upset that this book and Inexorable switched places, I still feel that Arthur’s book should have been the final book, it doesn’t make sense for the leader of the Cavalieri to not close out the series. But, either way, now we have Tristan and Sophie’s story. This one is a little different from the rest of the series. Once you read it, you’ll understand why. Told in dual POV Sorrow’s Queen can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading them in order. Although they are separate stories, they are all interconnected.
“She has walked into my heart like she has always belonged there, taken down the walls and set my soul on fire just by taking a single kiss from me.”
Tristan Sorrow, another one of Arthur Calthorpe’s loyal assassins is sent on what he thinks will be an easy job, go pick up Marcus King’s young fiance.
But once Sorrow meets the young bride to be, he knows this job will be anything but easy. Sophie is being used as a pawn. Her parents promised her to a man that they knew would surely ruin her, all in the hopes of raising their social status.
“I bleed emotions I didn’t know were inside me, letting them crawl into the small space between us and glue our jagged edges together.”
When things don’t go quite as Sorrow planned and he’s forced to spend a whole lot more time with Sophie then he had originally thought, feelings and emotions that he’s never felt before are caught in the mix until Sorrow is left with a choice to make.
A choice that could change everything.
Keep the mob kings betrothed and surely end up dying along with her, or turn over the girl he’s fallen in love with to a man who will ruin her.
Either way, it’s a lose-lose decision but one that has to be made…
“The universe just showed me love and grief all in the same moment. As I celebrate the love I feel for Sophie I already begin mourning the inevitable loss of it too. She doesn’t understand it yet, but we will both end up dying for this love.”
I really HATE having to say this but this was my least favored book in this series and honestly, if I hadn’t already read every single book in this series and wanted to see it through, I probably would not have finished it and that is a rarity for me.
Sorrow’s Queen had the makeup of being a fantastic read, but the storyline fell pretty short. There just wasn’t enough character depth, nor depth to the story period. It all just felt so rushed. There really wasn’t even a dialogue, besides their thoughts, that drew you in between the main characters which left me reading characters I just could not connect with at all, unfortunately.
Another downfall for me was, having read the rest of this series, the men of the Cavalieri are not good guys BUT, usually the things they do are to HELP the innocent and defenseless, so kidnapping a GIRL who is not even 18 years old to turn her over so she can marry a monster that she doesn’t want to be with? Yeaaa that just doesn’t make ANY sense to me.
I was considering less than 3 stars but after reading the ending, that most definitely helped raise my rating. Some of it I had predicted, but the end… I did not predict that. So because of the shock value, I gave this one 3 stars.
I’m not familiar with either of these authors and I feel absolutely horrible, I usually don’t leave bad reviews, I just choose not to review period but I’ve reviewed this whole series and I couldn’t just not review after I signed up. I apologize to the authors and I’m hoping that maybe this one was just a fluke and I will still check their other work out one day.
All in all, I would still recommend reading the Cavalieri Della Morte series, this one just fell flat for me.
“When she’s near, the sadness lifts. It’s as if she’s the sun burning away the mist of my sorrows.”
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
The blurb was NOT the book I read. Other than the names I don’t find anything to link the two. For instance –
He came in in the dead of night to steal me, to take me home.
No he kidnaps her off the street on her way home from school to take her to a mob boss she has been ‘promised’ to.
I’m sorry but Sophie/Queen isn’t even 18 and much as I love dubious and non consent I also like my heroine to be an adult. It wasn’t even necessary for the plot. It’s not the first book I’ve read where the heroine has been kept virginal for an arranged marriage. In those the heroine has been older and the story was still believable. As someone who works with teenagers of this age it turned my stomach – especially when Sorrow made her strip in front of him.
It’s also very much a case of instalove. You have to work hard to have me believe that two characters who know nothing about each other are in love and not just lust. Sadly I didn’t feel any significant connection between the characters to convince me of it. If you’re a fan of instalove then you won’t find it a problem. It’s one of those personal preference things.
Having read the rest of this series I also didn’t feel that kidnapping an underage schoolgirl fitted with the Cavalieri ethos. These are assassins not sex slave traffickers. It wasn’t the only hole for me in a plot that sailed so far from the shores of believability that it became but a distant memory.
Plot aside the actual writing flowed really well and was easy to read. The world building was good too. The author(s) also wrote a very unpleasant character in Sorrow, adding a very dark edge to the story. It was pacey, gritty and had some wonderful banter and dialogue.
I’m saddened I can’t be more positive but her age proved a big ‘yuk – just no’ trigger factor to me and the story was too short (both in time span and physical length) to change my mind.
Damn… I didn’t see that ending coming. It will tear your dark heart on up. The story line flowed and the characters were complex and not one dimensional in anyway. I feel like I need to go back and take a further look at other men in the brotherhood. Sorrow’s Queen is an amazing title. It fits the story beautifully. If you don’t understand why, you just have to read and find out for yourself.
Intense and Heartbreaking!
This story is a fantastic, action packed, suspenseful and intense read. It is fast-paced and very steamy. The story had me hooked to the end.
Sorrow is a very lonely, damaged soul and Sophie is a very feisty young woman who knows just how to make Sorrow snap out of his melancholy. Together they make an amazing pair who can get past anything put before them. Their interactions are intense and very heartbreaking. With each chapter we fall deeper in love with both characters and want to cheer them on.
These two authors really know how to get you to love certain characters, loath others and gut you when you are least expecting it! Fantastic writing. Loved this story.
