Hunted was a fun introduction to the world of Princess Charlotte after she discovers that not only does she have healing magic, but is also a mage. Hunted by one of the palace healers, Charlotte goes into hiding, then joins forces with several others who are also being hunted for unknown reasons. The story jumps around a little, beginning with a capture, then flashing back to what led to the capture, and finally arrives at the castle, with quite a few surprises at every point of the journey. Charlotte is the only character we learn much about in this installment, but seeing as how it was so brief, I expect the next books will flesh out some of the other characters for us. And strong-willed as she is, Charlotte is likable and shows the desire to learn and the will to lead well. I’m excited to see her grow into her role as monarch.
I received a free ARC from StoryOrigin and have reviewed it willingly.
ONE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE!!!
Awesome! Kate delivers this refreshing and uniquely composed treat, laying out one arresting storyline and engaging plot, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Dynamics and countenance in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. Sparks fly as drama, danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. Crashing the boundaries and pushing the limits, displaying the strengths and weaknesses being weighed and balanced, propelling this jewel forward without a hitch, launching it into a tailspin with a life-changing culmination. Surprising happenstance and unsettling mishaps, swirl with the formidable trials and challenging tribulations, spinning alongside the deadly twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, testing them in ways they could have never imagined. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuinely relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and depictions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Amazing job Kate, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
Charlotte discovered she was a mage after a devastating illness swept through her kingdom. Her parents, the King and Queen, fled when it struck and isolated Charlotte when she became sick. Now she’s recovered and being chased because she’s the first mage in 2,000 years. Charlotte has to learn how to use her new powers as well as figure out how to take back her country. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
“If today’s mission went well, we would not have to kill my parents.”
Great opening line, eh? An illness tears though a small island nation with shocking side effects, and a young princess learns more than she imagined possible about her country and parents. Featuring strong world building and compelling characters, this is an intriguing introduction to a series you won’t want to put down.
This is a very fast paced, short read that packs in a lot of world building and action. There are things I would have liked to see expanded more and characters I wanted to know more about but as this is episode 1 of 8, I will be patient. Based on the writing, the author has spend a lot of time developing her world and characters. They are very rich.
I don’t particularly care for stories that begin at the end and then go back to show you how they got there. It seems to be popular in both books and TV right now though, so perhaps I am in the minority.
I received this as a ARC and this is my honest review in my own words.
Another wonderful book from Kate Kennelly.
She has yet again taken us into a world of magic, with healers and now mages.
Those who survived the epidemic that tore the isles apart, have a new, or should I say additional magic from the stone.
This story follows the princess on her journey of self discovery and new found mage powers and group of friends who have sworn to protect her and help her from those who are hunting her.
Sorcery of Madness: A YA Fantasy Romance: Episode 1: Hunted, my first read from author Kate Kennelly caught my attention in the opening pages. I’d gotten this book earlier this month in anticipation of reading Sorcery of Madness: A YA Fantasy Romance: Episode 2: Unexpected and after reading this book I look forward to reading more in this series and from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
