Miss Rose Skylark eagerly awaits her debut into society, where she hopes to find a worthy suitor. When her mother informs her that she will be staying with her aunt at Scarlett Hall, Rose is excited to visit the place of which her mother has spoken often.
Holden Smith is horrified to learn that his father has given him an ultimatum – find a bride quickly or the man will secure one for him. To … one for him. To give up his life of hunting and late night parties devastates Holden and he seeks to delay the inevitable. That is until he meets a woman who catches his eye and has him reconsider his father’s request…
Although Rose is first intrigued by Holden, his selfish and arrogant ways emerge, causing her to doubt her feelings for him. Worst of all, he places her in a compromising position, and a fake engagement is her only means of escape.
What began as a ruse becomes real, and Holden seeks to earn Rose’s favor and will do anything to win both her heart and hand.
All the while, a long-buried secret emerges that not only threatens Rose’s position in society, but also cause her to question who she really is.
Songs of Yesterday is the fifth book in the Secrets of Scarlett Hall series. It can be read as a stand-alone novel but is best enjoyed when read within the series. Filled with romance, adventure, and a dash of mystery, this book promises to be a page-turner.

This is an intriguing tale of mystery and romance that had captivated and turning the pages from the very beginning. A historical romance with a bit of suspense and mystery is the best kind! This is one story that doesn’t allow you time to be bored. The storyline was full of emotion and Rose and Holden were wonderful together. Ms. Monroe did a wonderful job of making the story come alive. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series. A definite must read!

After the first book in this series, I could not wait to see what would happen next! Oh yes just as exciting with Lady Eleanor Lambert of Scarlett Hall pulling out some more secrets! This time she is hosting Rose, the daughter of her friend Rachel who comes to stay while seeking a husband. But secrets start coming up and Rose begins to question her own paternity and mother’s past. She meets Holden who tries to become her suitor, but he is all about himself, although he knows he has to marry of his father will set him up with one he chose! It does not take Rose long to see he is just not what she wants, but fate, in the form of a friend of Holden’s steps in and the journey begins.
Secrets, lies, betrayal and everything needed to make this a must read! Cannot wait for the next!
OH EM GEE, What a story. I first read the prequel “A Lady’s Promise” before I read this book. I have not read the previous books in this series but now that I have read “Songs of Yesterday” I definitely am reading them. This plays out like a soap opera drama except more sophisticated and realistic. The characters are truly believable. I was able to identify with their feelings of sadness, trepidation, fear, anger, joy, happiness and love. Real love, true and unabated love. This book was about Rose and Holden. Amazing characters with great personalities. Their story ended happily but for Lady Eleanor Lambert of Scarlett Hall another evil wicked storm is brewing and headed her way. Will Eleanor ever have any peace? I hope so. I look forward to the next book. I highly recommend this book.
Can’t get enough of this series. Lady Eleanor is a strong woman and has so much love and generosity. Rose comes to Scarlett Hall to stay with her “Aunt Eleanor”, a longtime friend of her mother Lady Prescott. But as always with Eleanor’s deceased, mean, despicable husband, Eleanor has to deal with the people he hurt in the past. Lady Prescott is ill and will not live long so her friend Eleanor agrees to bring Rose to Scarlett Hall and sponsor her. But while there Rose discovers secrets regarding her mother’s past and questions her paternity the father she never knew. Was Michael Skylark her father or possibly several other gentlemen? And her suitor, Holden Brandshaw, is a pompous, entitled, rich, braggart, and after several meetings she never wants to see him again. But then Holden’s angry friend plays a trick on her and Holden. Holden’s desire to make his father happy conspires against her and she has to pretend they are courting. He says he has changed but has he really? Rose never thought finding a husband would bring such turmoil, angst, and possible heartbreak. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Book five in the Secrets of Scarlett Hall series, a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is Miss Rose Skylark and Holden Bradshaw’s story, there is drama, betrayal, lies, secrets, and romance. What trouble is coming to Scarlett Hall next? I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Lie, betrayal, and secrets at Scarlett Hall.
In this one, you meet Holden Smith a young man that has a lot of growing up to do. His father wants him to marry and do it quickly or dear old dad may just take care of it. Then he meets Rose well here is a lady he might take as a wife. Now Rose attracted to him starts to have doubts and then good old fate steps in. The piece starts off with a mystery-great beginning and builds from there. The piece was really good and I enjoyed it. I liked the characters and what Holden did at the end of the book. Yet this book does leave the reader with a cliff hanger I am looking forward to the next book. The book is well-written and I enjoyed it and would recommend it to my friends. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
