Three dangerously hot rock star shifters branded by a demon. Not exactly what curvy songwriter Jude was looking for when she accepted the gig offered to her by Rock Magazine. The job was supposed to be simple: Attend Rock Fest, meet the members of the band and write an honest column. Get in, get out, cash that much-needed check. Except as Jude’s luck would have it, she finds herself caught in … would have it, she finds herself caught in a dangerous game when she hears a haunting warning hidden within the melody. It’s as though someone is trying to send her a message through the music.
But who? And more importantly, why her?
Things are about to go from bad to worse when Jude discovers that the three men she is falling in love with might not be what they seem at all.

Songs of Sorrow is the first book in the Crows of Carnage series. It takes you on quite the journey, and from the very first page, Kate Nova introduces you to who the Crows of Carnage, Alex, Owen, and Gunner, have become in both the rock and supernatural worlds. Each one of the Crows becomes someone form whom you develop some type of feeling. Enter Jude, who is not all that she seems to be on the surface. As the series goes on, we will find out exactly who or what Jude is.
The story is full of supernatural adventure and the development of an intense romance. The relationship that develops is of the reverse harem why choose type. This one works and seems just right for everyone involved. Some exciting twists in this story will keep you reading. It is a page-turner, and the ending has me reaching for the next book in the series!

Wow! This was an original, intriguing and captivating read. And that ending, argh!! i need more!
What happens when you make a deal with a demon and try to rescind it? That’s what the guys from Crows of Carnage, Alex, Gunner, Owen and Blaze tried and 3 of them are now cursed to be Sarzeleth messengers by shifting into crows when summoned, while Blaze was cursed be living throught the group music.
Jude is a freelance music journalist that was offered to write about Crows of Carnage. While listening to their music during their show, Jude can ear a voice behind the bands music. When the guys find out about it they will ask her help in exchange of letting her write about them.
I won’t say anything more just that you need to grab this gem and dive into a fantastic story with great characters that will keep you glued to the story till the end.
This book was freaking fantastic! I loved how Songs of Sorrow was more adultish and mixed with the music background it was practically sinful! I love a good RH and this one definitely fit the bill and with a shifter I have never read before either, just amazing! There is a cliff hanger…so…BOO…BUT the book was so good, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next and find out who Jude is.

Bad boy rockers, a lost heroine, a wicked demon and soul consuming bargains make this intriguing RH PNR a devilish, thrilling story!
I was hooked from the very beginning. The characters are fantastic and well written, the storyline and plot are crafted so beautifully, I lost myself in the story and the world building is a perfect fit for such a story, you can’t help but finish this book in one sitting. I can’t wait for the next installment!

Enjoyable read but really hoping the story fleshes out more regarding each Crow versus just Jude. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
An interesting book about a journalist and three rock stars who made a deal with someone that had some unexpected consequences. The story follows Jude as she navigates her way through magical elements, demonic transactions and three dudes with their own backstories.
ONE INCREDIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!
Rocking on! Kate doesn’t miss a beat delivering this incredible approach for this enthralling storyline and engaging plot, welding this gem together sleek, shiny and tight. Anarchy, escapades and havoc run amuck, kicking this bad boy into a raging tempest, blasting it into a tailspin with a life-altering finale. Twixt, twinned and interwoven, exposing the heart pounding ups and gut wretching downs, grounding in it’s strength and awe inspiring in it’s depth. Toss in drama, intrigue, mounting suspense and precarious situations along with a boatload of trouble, you have one mind-blowing masterpiece. Exhilaration rocks this jewel, bringing it home with such intensity and precision, riding roughshod and delivering one block busting delight. Heating up the chemistry, elevating the attraction, witnessing the sizzle flowing through the pages, alluring and mesmerizing, binding them to one another beautifully. The dynamics and countenance in layer upon layer that you peel back with each page your drawn into this web so deep until everything else ceases to exist. The realism and authenticity of the characters as their on point personalities blend and connect along with the graphically detailed scenes, paint an epic backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Fantastic job Kate, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
You had me at CROWS.
The boys of Crows of Carnage have made some bad choices. Alex is a sarcastic, dark, dreamboat with a sharp tongue. Gunnar is a drummer, who would rather not be in the spotlight be he’s putting out Alex’s fires left and right. Then there is emo, Gerard Way-ish Owen, who is scarred and delicate, vulnerable in a way that begs a fixing. I desperately want to band-aid this character together because Kate Nova invoked the name of MCR. And Blaze, who has up and disappeared in a demon pact gone sideways.
Yes–a demon pact. The Crows sold their souls for fame and are now minions of a demon who controls them like the soldiers they are. But lovely, Gerard Way-ish Owen has seen their salvation, a red-headed woman who will reach down into hell and set them free.
Songs of Sorrow is a very slow burn Reverse Harem Romance. Jude is an engaging heroine; I enjoyed the fact she wasn’t a drama-llama regarding rocker stuff and demon stuff–but I was aggrieved with the amount of ‘all-about-me’ rallied regarding a relationship that wasn’t acknowledged by anyone outside her head.
Not to mention Jude is supposed to be a journalist. She has this cushy assignment with this ridiculous pay-per-word. Kate Nova wasted this chance to use this to her reader’s benefit. Jude told us tons about Jude and not a great deal about the Crows, which would be an excellent show-not-tell vehicle for getting to know more about the history of who the boys are. Depth would have enriched this book.
The opposite is true; Alex pushes so many of Jude’s buttons. There was lost opportunity after lost opportunity here for filling out the story on Jude’s part, so her sections aren’t walls of exposition from her head. Her thoughts are insufferable at times. Her story is more palatable when someone else is interpreting it than it is when she is ‘woe-is-me’-ing over her songs, her heart, and her lost dreams.
At the end of the day, though, I want to know what will happen next with my Crows. MY CROWS. Take that, Jude. Especially my Gerard Way-ish Owen.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.

Another great read by this author! This one takes you behind the scenes of a band that is different, they once made a deal that has changed them in more ways than one. When Jude asks to write about them they weren’t going to agree but she’s different. As the band’s tour continues, they all find more than they hoped or wanted. So much is going on in this story that you don’t want to and really can’t put it down until you reach the end. I can’t wait for more about them and hopefully it won’t be that long of a wait!
*Spoiler Alert*
Music journalist Jude (FMC) has to get the story of her life (all the secrets) to get a feature that will pay enough money to help her out. So when she gets to on tour with Crow of Carnage – Owen, Gunner and Alex she tries to find out she can about them but everything is not all it seems. Each have their own back stories especially Alex who makes it clear from the beginning that he doesnt like her and wants her gone. Slowly throughout the book Jude gets to know them and what theyre hiding. Its a flaming great secret thats for sure. With a creepy ex-boyfriend Jude gets envolved in much more than she bargained for. Bloody hell that cliffhanger ending was killer. I cant wait for book 2 because this one was a damn fine read
Wonderful story. Great premise. Intriguing. Can’t wait for the next installment.
Crows of Carnage made a deal with a demon to fast track their rock music career. But in giving up part of their soul they also became crow shifters and had to go on assignments for the demon. Messengers to people who had reneged on their deals with the demon. But when their singer Blaze wants out and confronts the demon he disappears, and now the band has to continue without a signer and their leader. But Owen has visions of a redheaded woman who can help them get Blaze back and get their freedom from the demon. His visions have always come true and when he sees Jude, a music journalist at their concert he can’t wait to talk to her. But she astounds them with what she tells them about their music. Blaze is sending messages through their music and only she can hear it. Now they need to get her to tell them what she hears in their music without reveling why and what they really are. Then they learn she is in danger from her ex and the demon. If they let her go back to her life she is in danger and if she stays with them on tour she is in danger. Jude is a fan of dark, heavy metal music, and a former music journalist. She’s barely making it when she gets an offer from an online magazine to attend a music festival and write a The Crows of Carnage story about an up and coming metal band called the Crows of Carnage. The Crows of Carnage were desperate to become rock gods, but their success has cost them dearly.
I’m hooked! I think these characters are well written and absolutely fascinating. Jude’s unique ability to hear a hidden message in their songs brings her into a world the men of the band want to protect her from, but Jude is just as determined to protect the men she has come to love. Action, magic and music with some surprising, and unexpected twists that kept me guessing. Fantastic book.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
I find this to be a very interesting and entertaining read. Plenty of intrigue and action and of course steamy romance to keep you hook from beginning to end definitely not your typical PNR. I’m so looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series. Overall a enjoyable read and a great start for a new series.
