“One of those rare stories that just seem to grab your interest and make you part of the story, not just a reader. The combination of history, intrigue, drama and romance, not to mention TIME TRAVEL….AWESOME!!.” – Raewynn OsborneMusic is not bound by time. And Adeena Stuart is not bound by anything that will stop her from saving the man she’s fallen in love with, even though he’s been dead for … he’s been dead for almost three hundred years.
In Book II of the Song for a Lost Kingdom trilogy, her music provides the portal to to James Drummond who is fighting along side Prince Charles Edward Stuart in the 1746 Jacobite uprising. Though their cause is doomed, and James is destined to die shortly after the Battle of Culloden, Adeena’s determination never wavers.
Left behind in the present, Adeena’s friends and families are equally determined to return her to 2019 before the expanding growth in her head becomes fatal and they lose her forever.
Throughout it all, the music sweeps across those in both the past and present in this novel of history, fantasy, romance and science fiction.
Love never surrenders.
“This story grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go!” – Marti Panikkar
“Adeena undergoes what seems more like a genuine experience. It takes medical and psychological impact into consideration. Anyone can have an idea, but in the hands of a superior writer, a concept can be explored more completely with greater depth. That’s what you have done.” – Sarita Talmidah
“The relationships between the characters are getting so intense! I found myself mentally yelling at William and Jackie -NO! DON”T DO IT! I know that Adeena (love her resolve) and James are the lead characters, but you’re making the supporting cast so interesting that towards the end of the book I wasn’t sure whether I liked being in the 18th or the 21st century as both story line were engrossing.” – Diane Craig
“So, I’m back from my long weekend (went and got in some screen-free backpacking time!) and throughout the duration of the trip, my mind kept wondering back to this narrative. It’s captured my imagination!” – Emily Knott
“Addictive and brilliant! I was pulled into the lives of these complex characters and by the end became fully invested in their plights. I absolutely loved the ending and can not wait to see how this new situation progresses.” – Nevine Ramirez

Music and love come together to transcend time.
I haven’t read the first book in this series but I wish I had because I absolutely loved this story! This is the first audiobook I’ve listened to that had more than one narrator and I think that really added a lot to my listening enjoyment. Music, too! I could easily imagine this story on a movie screen with its larger than life characters, and a great soundtrack, of course.
The story pulled me in right away and I listened to it in just a few sessions, in spite of its length. It is nearly fifteen hours. It packs a lot into that time. There’s adventure, intrigue, time travel, love, war and magical music.
If you enjoyed the series “Outlander” you’re sure to like this book.
Rich with history. Wonderful characters. Interesting plot. Vivid descriptions. I felt every emotion. Simply a GREAT read!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I loved Song for a Lost Kingdom (book 1), but it ended on a cliffhanger. I’ve been dying to know what happened, and I was pumped when the opportunity to read Book 2 presented itself. I had so many questions and couldn’t wait to dive in.
Book 2 answered my questions but gave me more to ponder. It starts off immediately where book 1 left off. Adeena has been brought out of her coma. The time travel in this novel is really compelling. It’s clear Steve Moreitti did his research and that really helped this feel authentic. I did miss music being more center stage in this novel because I think that was one of the compelling aspects of book 1.
I think the returning characters are growing, which is always wonderful to see in book 2. Adeena grew on me as her character gained more insight and depth.
The ending irked me a little. Another cliffhanger and unfortunately, I think this book falls pray to the middle book syndrome a bit. On the plus side, the cliffhanger does make me want to read book 3, and I have a feeling that will be another awesomely researched novel. I recommend checking this series out.

After the cliffhanger ending of Song for a Lost Kingdom (Book 1), I was more than ready to read Song for a Lost Kingdom (Book 2). I had so many questions that stemmed from book one that I was hoping would be answered in book 2. I am happy to say that book 2 of Song for a Lost King answered all my questions. But more were raised that I hope to get answered in the next book.
Song for a Lost Kingdom takes place immediately after the events of book 1. Adeena had been brought out of her coma and is desperate to get back to the 18th century. Guilting Tara into allowing her to play the Duncan cello, Adeena is soon back in the 18th century with the love of her life, James. But living in the 18th century isn’t easy, and it is harder for a Jacobite. Meanwhile, back in present-day Ottawa, Adeena’s parents are trying to bring her back. Lang is also back, and he has plans. What will he do? Will Adeena stay in the 18th century? Or will she be brought back again?
Unlike book 1, music was not a focal point of book 2. Instead, the focal point was the events leading up to the Battle of Culloden. I enjoyed it. I liked seeing how 18th century Scotland life was.
I wasn’t a fan of Adeena when the book started. Despite everything that her parents and friends did to bring her back to the present, she wanted to go back to the 18th century. She guilted Tara into letting her play the Duncan cello to go back. I was so mad at her. But, her character grew as the book progressed. I was able to see a side of her that I didn’t see in book 1.
The storyline with Adeena’s parents broke my heart. The stress of caring for a sick child can crack even a stable relationship. The author captured that perfectly.
Let’s talk about Lang for a minute. Am I the only one who saw through his “goodness” for what it was? I wasn’t surprised when he resorted to blackmailing Walter to get what he wanted. I also wasn’t surprised when he did what he did.
The research of the book amazed me. The author stayed true to the historical events, which I liked.
The time travel angle of the book was interesting. But, what happened at the end of the book was something else. I wasn’t not expecting that to happen!!
The book ended on another cliffhanger. I wanted to bang my head off of something hard when I read that. Why did it have to end that way!!!! Two back to back cliffhangers are almost too much for me to handle. I need to read book three now!!
Set aside a weekend for this well-written romance with heart-stopping twists which shifts between 1745 and 2019. I read an ARC and this voluntary review is my own opinion.
This is a sad but beautiful and tragic story about the Scottish uprising under Bonnie Prince Charles and its unfortunate ending. How this civil war influenced families with sons at both sides. But it’s also about love and music. I have to read part 3 as soon as it’s out because I want to know how it all ends. In which century will she choose to live, can she even choose ?
What an awesome storyline! This book has romance, history, mystery, love of country and of a special music! I think many of us have had dreams of a love like this…
Thank you Mr. Steve Moretti for sharing your story!
One of the best time travel books I’ve read in a while. This is the continuing story of Adeena and her adventures in the 18th century along with the stories of her family and friends in the 21st century who are desperately trying to get her back. The author has done his homework both on the history between Scotland and England in the 18th century and on medical procedures and it shows in his writing. The story and lead characters are captivating, the world building is excellent and the supporting characters, Adeena’s friends and family, add so much to the story. I strongly recommend this book.
I was given a copy of this script for review and I am so glad I am a member of the ARC team.
Steve Moretti has a fascinating concept with this story. Giving a review that doesn’t give away the story is almost impossible, but, here goes… it’s fascinating, the characters are so real, you feel their joy, love, panic, sorrow…the premise is handled so well, the story flows easily from time to time, character to character. I definitely recommend.
Wonderful 18th century period story with a romantic time travel twist. Modern day musician Adeena falls into a coma and wakes up as Katharine, a woman embroiled in a war between Britain and Scotland. Katherine/Adeena is struggling to save her true love from death in the coming slaughter of the Battle of Culloden. Can Katharine alter history? Can the neurosurgeons save Adeena?
This story grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go! I received an eARC with no strings attached.
Okay, so you will have to bear with me for a moment because I read book 1 and 2 back to back. So this is going to be a fairly quick overview. This is a historical fantasy with romance that takes place in both 1745/46 and 2018/19. Adeena in the present day is a Cellist / Katharine (1745) is a Cellist and a Composer and is in the middle of the Jacobite rebellion with a brother on each side. Katharine’s heart belongs to James Drummond a Jacobite who is leading an army for the Prince to take back Scottland. In Present-day Adeena is in a coma with growth in her brain that began happening when she started traveling back in time.
Let me start by saying that this is a very well researched book. As someone who loves history I appreciate how much research has to have gone into it. In this book you will be submerged into the rebellion of 1745/46. I enjoyed the writing of the book I feel the writing style was perfect for the subject matter.
The time travel element was interestingly done Adenna does not physically go back in time. Her consciousness is what travels through time and into Katharine Carnegie. However there were times that I found the change of POV jarring because you are also changing time periods to. I’m not saying it was done badly I just learned that I did not like it.
One thing that really bothered me is that the names Adenna and Katharine were interchanged in the 1745 timeline I know they are the same person but it gave me pause more than once because at that time she is supposed to be Katharine. So when a section stated out as Adenna I thought we were going to move back to present day.
I know I have said this before, I am not a fan of cliffhangers. Yes I have a few exceptions to this but as a general rule I don’t like them. Reading books 1 and 2 back to back wasn’t bad but then this ends in one too.
All in all this is a good book if you like time travel and books focused around war/rebellion.
