The Muse…
Clara Becker is a supremely gifted composer — a talent of little to use to a woman in 1830s Europe. Her compositions only have worth when they are published under her brother’s name, yet this deception barely enables them to scrape out a living in the poorest quarter of London.
Meets the Master…
Darien Reynard, the most celebrated musician in Europe, pursues success with a … musician in Europe, pursues success with a single-minded intensity. This is the best romance novel I have read in a long time.
Passion of music threaded through the story was very enjoyable.
nice glimpse into mid 19th century
I thought it was well written, very descriptive and a wonderful story that was interesting from the first page to the end.
I especially liked that this book had an epilogue that let readers know what happened to the characters 10 years after the original story.
First of her books that I’ve read and I’ll definitely read more. I loved the premise of a talented female composer and the backdrop of the musical tour, as well as the insights into to composing process. Well-written, insightful & engaging.
An interesting read, you want to strangle the main male character until the end, and kick the 2nd male character in the butt most of the time. The female character is strong and gifted.
Interesting way in which the destitute musical family worked to keep their “secret” in order to deceive the master violinist as to who was the true composer. Loved the manner in which things worked out and how each party was introduced to another side of life.
Enjoyed reading about a woman with talent
I liked the book’s happy ending but it was a bit of a downer while reading it. There were few touches of humor to lighten it up a bit. I liked the music references at the end to show it was realistic for the time period.
Enjoyable read. As a musician could relate to the content and the descriptions of how music affects and moves the heart and soul. Reminder of how far society has indeed involved in regards to the accomplishments of women – in all fields. Hard to believe she could compose over night – but then Handel wrote the Messiah in 23 days – so could be …
As a musician, I enjoyed the way the story took place is all the European cities. Their method of transport made me appreciate what they endured. I knew that women were nothing but how men could think they were so stupid is beyond me. So few were allowed to be anything, much less composers.
Great short read. Loved the theme.
Great book
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Well written in a style I appreciated without author resorting to substandard or slang language.
Excellent
An interesting take on historical romance. I really enjoyed the banter between the romantic leads and the descriptions of the period music and musical performances.
Nice plot. Was a great read
I loved this novel. It was fun to read and the characters were true to period. The story is built around historical characters and locations.
A joyful and memorable read.
I enjoy scifi erotica. Very spicy!
