Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

In addition to reading steamy romcoms and romantic suspense, I LOVE psychological thrillers like Gone Girl. Sometimes I Lie was SO good and twisty! The ending will make your jaw drop! Highly recommend!
Amber wakes up in a hospital with no idea how she got there, she can’t move, but she can hear everything going on around her and smell trouble in the air. As things play out she begins to gather suspicions about how she landed in her current predicament, and who maybe at fault…but sometimes things aren’t quite what they seem!!
Sometimes I Lie is riveting tale riddled with twists and turns that you will never see coming, in other-wards be prepared to have your world turned upside down!! The moment you crack the cover on this one it will completely consume you, the world around you will disappear and every time you think you have things figured out, the proverbial rug will be pulled out from under you. It will play games with your thoughts, keep you on the edge of your seat, and leave you completely jarred!! I highly recommend you get your hands on this book, it’s a thrilling tale that should not be missed!!
This book will have you turning the pages. You will come up for air because you think you have an answer only to be dragged back in by another twist. Sometimes I Lie is a different psychological fiction because you keep going back and forth from the past to the present and each trip back and forth in the years brings another question. The book starts off with a name and three things you should know about the person the last being 3. Sometimes I Lie. Saying this book has twists and turns is an understatement and I can’t say one thing about the story without giving away another. I enjoyed this book and at the end there is still three things with number the three being, Sometimes I Lie.
What a wonderfully twisted story!! I don’t want to give anything away, so I will just say that you should really read this one. I couldn’t put it down!
I was shocked during the entire book. It has a clever plot that just seems to go on and on with more excitement. It is hard to keep track of what is going on but you will discover so much evil that has taken place. It has a great twist at the end too! I was entertained!!
Absolutely fantastic book! Alice Feeney is an incredible writer! “Sometimes I Lie” is one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read. The twists are jaw-dropping and completely unexpected. I can’t wait to read whatever Alice Feeney writes next- I am now a huge fan!
While this debut novel did have potential, it felt a bit like the author was trying too hard for that something that makes a memorable psychological thriller. The twists abound, but there were so many and they became so outrageous that the belief factor just flew out the window. In addition to chapters alternating between then and now, plus before, after, and later, we have characters that are called one name them and another now, characters that may or may not be real, and no one among them all that made me want to root for them. Despite the many attempts, I didn’t find anything to give the story that edge of your seat, heart-racing feeling that should come with a thriller, and what started with such great potential quickly became convoluted and disappointing.
Not the type of book I usually read, but saw some really great reviews and thought I’d give it a try. I’m glad I did, this was a great book. The characters are interesting, not always likable mind you, but definitely interesting. The story is compelling, the plot superb, filled with twists and turns. The story is narrated by Amber Reynolds, who lies in a hospital bed in a coma. She is aware and can hear all that is going on around her, but she can’t talk, move or remember exactly how she came to be in a coma. As she tries to unravel the mystery of what happened, her story and thoughts shifts between Then (what led up to the accident), Before (her life as a child) and Now. We get to know her husband, sister and co-workers through her eyes and from the conversations that she can hear going on around her. And just when you get comfortable and think you have it all figured out, the story will turn in a direction you never expected! I don’t want to say too much and give away any spoilers so I’ll conclude by saying, just remember the title of the book is, Sometimes I Lie!
This book was a total page turner. I was engaged the entire time then WHAM, a completely unpredicted ending. I will admit, the author lost me a bit because it didn’t seem to deliver the “promise” of the book. The ploy used to “fool” me was age old but I didn’t see it coming. Not sure I appreciated it either, but that being said, a really fascinating book. When you’re done, you think, “I would never!” But it’s intriguing to spend however many hours reading about someone you’d NEVER want to be. I recommend Sometimes I Lie to lovers of good books and thrillers.
I feel like there is so much to say about this book and yet, I can’t find any words that quite do it justice. I’m afraid even the smallest thing I say might give away one of the many twists and turns. Each time I thought i had it figured out, I turned another page only to realize I’d been down a dead end road and have to circle back to what I know. The thing about it is, there’s not much that you truly know until the very end. Just know that nothing is what it seems and brace yourself for the wild ride.
An amazingly twisty thriller! I read it quickly, because I just couldn’t stop. I needed to know what would happen next.
The plot as we know it going in:
There are three things you should know about me:
1. I’m in a coma.
2. My husband doesn’t love me any more.
3. Sometimes I lie.
That’s really all I needed to suck me in. And it’s all I’ll tell you, so you can enjoy the story for yourself without any pre-knowledge. I thought it was well-written, and well done.
There are three things you need to know about Sometimes I Lie:
1.Nothing and no one in this book is what they seem.
2.Once you start reading it, you won’t be able to put it down.
3. This book will mess with your head.
So grab your copy, clear your diary (you don’t want to be interrupted while reading it) and enjoy the ride (you might get dizzy from all the crazy twists though).
Things are not what you think they are. Definitely a must read.
Definitely intriguing . Sometimes the plot twists made it hard to follow, but toward the middle of the book I couldn’t put it down. I’m still pondering the ending and can’t quite wrap my head around it. I don’t know if that’s what the author intended, but it definitely left me thinking.
Excellent use of a non-linear construction with an original plot that was well-developed and exceptionally well written. I would highly recommend this as pure entertainment.
I’m not sure where to start with this review. I guess, first and foremost, I want to say this was a freaking bizarre book. VERY BIZARRE!!! I guess if I could have given it 2.5stars, I would have but I’m not feeling generous enough to round up to 3stars.
The first half of the book was actually kind of boring as “Amber” (who’s in a coma) begins to tell her story. It isn’t until around the 60% point, that the author begins to reveal tidbits and details of the real story and characters. It’s in the last 20% that the bizarre story explodes in totally freaky fashion.
The end is a flaming hot mess and the two main characters, “Amber” and her “sister” “Claire” are both bonkers and absolute sociopathic freaks.
OMG! What did I just read??? Talk about a thriller! I’m actually so confused right now about it all I feel like I need to go back and read it again. This author, Alice Feeney, has the ability to have you thinking one thing and then WHAM….. what the heck? Wait a minute. Wasn’t that Amber? No, wait! Was it Clair? No, Taylor? Like I said, I’m very confused but completely entertained!!
This is what I like from reading a good psychological thriller. You never see the twist coming!
The plot is really interesting where the readers get to read this from Amber’s POV-the girl who stuck in a coma. There are three timelines in this story; the time before Amber got into a coma, the time Amber is in a coma and a diary of a little girl from over 20 years ago.
I think the plot is well crafted, I don’t have any trouble about the writing style and the pacing also goes smoothly.
Although, I felt a bit confuse sometimes with so many different timelines there are a lot of things going on. More secrets to keep track of and questioning whether the narrator in this story is really reliable or not which somehow makes this story more complicated than it already is.
And that ending! I have to be honest, it really shock me because I didn’t see it coming at all. It was unexpected, I thought I already saw the twist but the last chapter is a great surprise.
Overall, for a debut novel this is a really good psychological thriller. I really enjoy my time reading this while creating theories to guess who did it. Highly recommended!
I couldn’t keep up with the twists!
Listened to it on audio. Was very gripping at first and I couldn’t stop listening to it, but 3/4 of the way through, I just wanted it to be over.
