If she could make it through her first semester without killing anyone…that’d be great.San Francisco Bay Coven has been torn apart and no one feels this more than Mika Marshall. Kenzie Kavanagh exposed her father and brother’s betrayal. So Mika is starting at the University of Morgana a semester late and praying to the Fates that she’ll be able to catch up and graduate with her class. But as a … her class. But as a witch with an undeclared specialty she’s trying not to bring too much attention to herself.
Because Mika has a secret and if she doesn’t learn to control her powers, people will die.
**This is a slow burn reverse harem academy series. All paranormal books by Emma Dean exist in the same world – the Council of Paranormals.

Another home-run by Dean!!! I admit that I missed Kenzie and her foxes so I was so excited that they pop up in this book as side characters. We meet Mika who has had one dizzy of a few years. Her family was involved in all the bad stuff and on top of that she was attacked. Add in her magic doing dangerous things and she has isolated herself. The ends when she goes to the Academy though. There she makes friends, learns some secrets, and starts dealing with stuff. Well written and the world really drags you in. I giggled too many times to count I must say. Total must read! I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Couldn’t put it down. A great book that keeps you turning pages. Can’t wait for the next in the series. Was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved this book and story line. Highly recommended for anyone who likes whitch/magical ‘real world’ stories
Mika is a fantastic character! I love Emma Dean’s world building, but this particular world is my favorite. All the characters have sass and heart and Mika is no different. Her dorm mate, Audrey, is equally amazing as are the hunky men introduced in this story. Ethan a powerful witch she can’t manage to stay away from, Malachi the captain of the magic dodgeball team, that she definitely finds attractive. Then there is Lucien, the sexy, mysterious Hunter that she spars with, both literally and verbally and manages to get under her skin.
The characters aren’t the only thing that’s amazing, the storyline is fantastic as well. It ties into all that happened and the fallout of everything from The Chaos of Foxes series (fantastic, action packed and sexy series you should definitely read). I definitely look forward to what Emma has in store for these characters in the next book, because that ending had me gasping in shock!
Everything it promised to be and more
Even though there were some time line issues for me there are still so many things to love.
1. The characters are absolutely amazing. I’m not even talking our FMC and her budding harem but actually talking about our supporting cast. Kenzie, her chaos of foxes, Audrey & Selene. Our resident godfather demon. All of these characters create a promise of an excellent story to come.
2.Mika is pretty damn bad ass. Defensive magic? Hunter ability? Bad ass blood magic that is super rare? Seriously. Bad. Ass.
3. She has herself a very pretty Harem. Well a budding one but still. I cannot wait to see what the boys have in store for us.
4. A new and interesting way to look at witches, their covens and how they make things work. I really enjoyed it.
5.Even though Mika has been through a boat load of trauma she still perseveres. She took a while to get there but she is triumphing.
A great start to what I’m sure will be an epic series. Can’t wait to carry on.
This was the first book by Emma Dean I had listened to, and I definately want more! it was an interesting story that sucked me in from the beginning and kept me hanging on for more, full of intrigue and suspense and exciting characters. Mika makes a great heroine, determined to keep her distance from everyone to ‘protect her secret’, but the friends she unintentially makes are irresistable along with the amazing array of romantic interests, ‘why choose’ indeed! This was a great first instalment, I’m hooked and can’t wait to start the next book.
I just love watching the character grow into what she was always meant to be and never thought she should.
Wow! This was my first book by Emma Dean and color me impressed. This story has mystery, suspense, and drama throughout it. It keeps you guessing and gives so much more. It is breathtakingly beautifully developed and doesn’t lag. It has you involved with the characters and makes you feel like you are part of the story. It does end in a cliffhanger but it absolutely worth getting there. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
5 stars for Something Wicked by Emma Dean. This is book one in the University of Morgana:Academy of Enchantment and Witchcraft series. This is what I would consider a slow burn reverse harem. I am loving the concept and the world that Emma Dean has created. All of her books are a part of the same world and that to be makes it even more enjoyable. We get to see the characters we loved from other books and we get a peak of what is going on in their lives. I love Audrey who is Mika’s roommate. She is an amazing side character. The different in this book from other reverse harems is that the potential mates for Mika are not friends prior to this. I am enjoying seeing how their relationships are building at the same time each of them is building a relationship with Mika. I can not wait to see how everything advances for them in future books.
I want to read more of your work
In this book we met Mika who was childhood friends with Selena from For Fox’s Sake and follow her journey as she goes to the University of Morgana. We learn slowly about her past, her family, and why she is almost powerless while meeting a ton of new characters along the way as well as some beloved characters from past series in the same world. New friends, potential love, witchcraft, and mysteries. This gives us a whole new view of the Council of Paranormals witch side than For Fox’s Sake, we get to see the intricacies of the politics and different types of magic. We also get to see Eisheth!, if you haven’t read the other books set in this world they are a definite must.
Here we go again another great read from Emma dean! After completing kenzie’s story we jump into the university of morgana and Mika’s story. Mika is a traumatized young witch who is dealing with the betrayal of her make relatives and her family disintegrating around her. Along the way she finds three guys to help her and a best friend add she navigates learning about jet powers and what they mean.
A new series from Emma Dean, this story takes place in the Council of Paranormals universe. The CoP is a mixture of series and standalone books that can all be read together, or they can all be read independently. You don’t have to read any of the standalones to understand the series, and vice versa. If you’re looking for a timeline, though, Something Wicked falls after the events of The Chaos of Foxes series. If you’re familiar with Chaos of Foxes, Kenzie, her foxes, and Selene all make appearances in this book and reading it will help you understand the back story more fully, but, again, you don’t have to read it. That said, it’s an awesome series, too, so you should definitely read it, but I digress.
Mika is a different kind of female main character than we’ve seen in this literary universe. Emma Dean’s heroines in CoP all have a commonality in that they are all unabashedly themselves; they are who they are, and they accept themselves for who they are. Mika is darker. She’s been through a lot, and it’s changed her. Rather than lament that she’s not the old Mika anymore, she accepts that she is a product of what the circumstances created. Yeah, the circumstances were awful, and she’s not Mary Sunshine anymore, but that’s okay. Some people might say that she’s a bit angsty. Personally, I don’t think so. Without giving anything away, she’s been through a lot, without any familial support at a very young age. She’s definitely anxious, and the author does a brilliant job of putting you in Mika shoes and conveying what she’s experiencing. What I also love about Mika is that, despite everything, she’s not afraid of being b!t
I am absolutely in love with Mika. I love this world that Emma has created, and enjoy seeing the damage to Brad and the gang that Kenzie and her foxes did from an outsiders perspective. From someone who was a victim of both acts, Brad and those exposed by the controversy.
Mika is so strong, but she is a damn ostrich with its head in the sand hoping everything will go away if she ignores it long enough. She has realized that won’t work and you have the foxes that can help her. Plus her magic is gonna be wicked awesome.
I have never fallen so hard for a character. She is amazing. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that she is trying soooo hard to give off stay back vibes, and everyone is like no you’re adorable I’m forcing my way in, except her sister. Her sister is being just as bad as Mika and ignoring everything. However, she is ignoring everything in favor of herself, and then for the rest of her family. I am so excited to read more about Mika. And since this book ends only 1 or 2 weeks into the new semester there are plenty of books to come.
