USA Today bestselling author Claudia Burgoa spins a new romantic comedy. This hot office rivalry romance will have you swooning and laughing your panties off!Between a troublesome client and my fake-girlfriend-for-my-sister’s-Cancun-wedding canceling at the last minute.
I’m having the day from hell.
Then I spot Claire. Sexy. Smart. Sassy.
So one of my superstar employees is boarding the same … superstar employees is boarding the same plane.
With her help, I could kill two problems with one tequila shot.
That thing about never mixing business with pleasure?
I should’ve remembered.
Now the hottest one-night stand I’ve ever had is my biggest business rival.
We’re after the same client.
I’m after her heart.
The trick is how to win one without losing the other.
Because when love has you by the balls, it’s time to play dirty.
It’s an enemies-to-lovers romance with just the right amount of heart and humor.
Something Like Hate is a full-length novel based on Miller and Claire’s short story, “The Accidental Hookup,” which was previously released in Spring Fling: A Romance Anthology.

When Miller needs a fake girlfriend to be his plus one at his sister’s wedding, he bargains with his employee Claire to fill the role. But what was supposed to be for appearances only goes beyond what either one of them expected with a true relationship blooming. Until everything crashes.
I liked seeing Miller and Claire interacting with friends and family, it really added to the story. And the long road from Cancun to the end of the story kept me riveted, wondering how they would get to their HEA.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review
Clarice and Hannibal OR Han Solo and The Princess~
When Miller asks his employee, Claire to be his plus one for his sister’s wedding, he has no idea what he’s getting into. These two cracked me up throughout the book. Their banter is hysterical and the nicknames depict the mood they are presently in. I love how they fight, make up and take life by the horns
Something Like Hate is my second novel by Claudia Burgoa and I think I loved this one more than Then He Happened, because Claire and Miller are two characters that I felt I had more in common with than the previous couple. The journey that these two take together is beautiful!
Again enemies-to-lovers is one my favorite troupe ever because of the emotions that it involves. I love the push and pull from any book that shows this relationship. I felt this one was so much more funny, fresh and will trap you from the first chapter till the very end.
This one had a heroine who was strong but not violently strong. She has a strong sense of herself which lead her to have a strong mind and emotional grip on reality which makes her so independent. She’s a quick thinker on her feet, so that of course extends to her workplace and of course to men. She won’t let anyone take her down even her boss.
Miller is a business man that doesn’t play fair. He sets his sights on something and achieves it, even if it means someone else gets hurts. But that doesn’t make him the type of alpha male that were used to. He’s not an over-the-top asshole, yes, he has flaws but I think they make him beautiful. But his growth in the book is phenomenal!
They have such amazing chemistry together. And while they may not know it but things might get a little tricky. I definitely suggest reading this book. It is for fans of two strong personalities that clash at first but gradually begin to see each other in a new light.
Playing Dirty Stars
Claudia Burgoa only fell on my radar in recent months, but I can’t get enough of her witty and fun romances. Something Like Hate is a blend of enemies to lovers, workplace, and fake romance, and it all combines to make one fun, fast-paced read. Claire and Miller have off the charts chemistry even when they’re slinging insults, so it’s impossible not to root for them. Things happen pretty quickly between them, and I’ll admit that I was a little worried about this one being overly angsty and maybe a little too drawn out, but that was certainly not the case. The angst comes from where I expected, miscommunication and their lack of faith in relationships, but the author handles it a little differently than the norm. It’s done in a way that makes it feel real. It’s not rushed, yet it’s also not drawn out with all the heartbreak. It’s hard to explain that without spoilers, but suffice it to say that I didn’t miss all the extra angst there could’ve been. Instead, I sat back and thoroughly enjoyed Claire’s snark and the witty banter between this couple. We also get some pretty entertaining secondary characters by way of the families on both sides. What it all boils down to is another great read from this author.
Gosh, I loved this book. It was sweet, funny and sexy. It had its ups and won, just like Claire and Miller’s relationship. It started off cool as ice, the overheated with attraction and chemistry, the sassy banter and sexy scenes was fun to read. The push and pull in their ‘fake’ relationship was amusing to say the least.
Then came the bump in the road and Miller made me so mad at him.
Can Claire find it in her heart to let him back in?
One-Click this little gem and find out.
Anyone else think of that epic poem in 10 Things I Hate About you when they read this title? Just me…? Oh well!
Something Like Hate may sound a bit rough but it goes down smoother than Patron. I’m assuming Clase Azul level but I’ve never had it. #goals LOL.
I wasn’t sure what we were getting by the blurb. I was confused by the wording but make no mistake it means exactly what it says. This topsy turvy roller coaster of emotion, lust, and longing starts off easy. A quick fix proposition that spirals into chaos.
I was so startled by the reaction and my girl power flared into death to all men at the point “where they become enemies”. You see this is definitely not your average enemies to lovers. No, Claire and Miller only do things in intergalactic proportions.
The banter between these to will have you mesmerized. A virtual tennis match. I had the best time watching them volley. I may even have gotten whiplash. The nicknames are off the charts crazy and definitely amusing. Right, Clarice?
I genuinely had a blast reading this book. It was sexy and fun. It had me in tears and also smiling. I got violent and may have thrown punches (ok, well I wanted to!). I absolutely was heartbroken. I hurt and Claudia made me hurt for a long time so I suggest a medication of chocolate or wine to help you get through the painful parts!
Something Like Hate is absolutely a new favorite. I even had fun noticing honorable mentions throughout. Burgoa fans will smile at the references.
Something Like Hate had me decidedly unhateful towards it. Miller screwed up! (Its always the dude, right? LOL) But what you will learn about Miller Archer (aka E.P. and H.L.) is he always gets what he wants and isnt afraid to play the long game! (What an understatement!)
Enjoy it because I know hate will be the furthest word from your mind!
4.5* Feisty Stars
I got introduced to Miller and Claire when their novella was part of an Anthology. I loved their short story and hoped Claudia would bring us more about these two feisty love birds because they certainly had a story to tell. When my ARC arrived, I was beyond excited to be reunited with them.
This is a slow enemies to lovers romance that was heartfelt and real. Miller and Claire are so easy to fall in love with, their chemistry palpable and the banter between them witty. The secondary characters were a great addition the story and they were very lovable and fun.
I highly recommend this wonderful good feel read that will leaving you satisfied and smiling.
Something Like Hate will have you captivated from the very beginning. I felt every emotion going. Claudia Burgoa will pull on your heartstrings until the very end.
I loved everything about this!!
Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Highly recommended!
Claire and Miller
I loved that this book was not rushed but given the time to develop. Wonderful story about a couple that grew to understand and love each other. Their names for each other were priceless. Wish I could have given it 10 stars.
This might just be my absolute favorite book by one of my newest favorite authors! I loved Miller and Claire together. Even though it took them three long years to figure it out, they definitely balanced each other. What a great story!!
Five feisty stars! This book show me HATE can be beautiful…
Oh là là! What on earth did I read? Once again Claudia Burgoa ruined me by delivering a book that was really hard to put down. She penned an epic and sexy romance that mixes two of my favourite tropes. It started with a crazy arrangement, a fake relationship and then the transition to enemies to lovers all wrapped up to create an intense and captivating book. Something like Hate is a heart-breaking and a heat-warming romance that set firework of emotions inside my heart. I had an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.
This book is more than a simply romantic comedy tinted with an enemies to lovers romance / fake relationship. It is also a forbidden office romance with light shades of second chance and everything wrapped in the only way Claudia Burgoa can do. Her books always touch my heart and soul in a way that is impossible to compare to. I love her honest and flawless writing. She never holds back and always delivers sweet and angsty stories that are hard to resist and love. And Something like Hate isn’t the exception to her branded romances. So sexy, so brilliant and so swoon-worthy.
The story told in the pages of this book pulled the right strings of my heart. The storyline is refreshing and very captivating. I was hooked up instantly. All the feels flew wildly and captured my soul in a whirlwind of feels and emotions. I laughed, I cried, I loved and I hated. The plot twists and turns had me at the edge of my seat all the time. I adored the characters she created for this story.
Miller is such an enigmatic guy, rude, career oriented, controlling who cares for himself and his company and Claire is a great asset for his advertising agency team. Despite Claire working for Emperor Palpatine, they rarely crossed paths. However lady fate had other funny and angsty plans for them. Thighs got more interested when Miller proposed Claire to fake a relationship in front of his family at his sister’s wedding in Cancun, place where Claire was traveling for vacation. Then some dramatic turn of events set them apart. After that, a heartbroken Claire carried on her shoulders anger while working in a male dominating environment. She broke all stereotypes and achieved many things that some only dare to dream about. While Miller worked hard to be the man Claire deserved.
Claire and Miller’s story is very special. They make a wonderful couple. Their chemistry is ridiculously hot. They complete each other. As characters, they developed and matured throughout the story. I was proud how Claire manage the attraction she felt towards Miller the second time. I wanted to punch Miller for being so fool to let her go the first time but it warmed my heart how he won back Claire’s trust and heart. His gestures spoke louder than any words.
I undoubtedly recommend this book for those who love real and unique romances that are unputdownable and keep you glued to your e-reader. Something like Hate is explosively enticing that will leave you wanting more. (Between us, I loved the Star-Wars references so much. I want a Han Solo as dominating as Miller).
Received in exchange for a honest review.
So when you start the book Milo isn’t exactly a character you like. He is nice but you can see that all he is in his business for is the bottom line. He is arrogant when getting on the plane and just acts like he is better than others. Then he gets his scheme with Claire. And he is transformed. He falls in love and doesn’t expect it. Only some events occur and Claire gets hurt. And bam things are no longer the same.
Claire is a harder person and Milo wallows. But his time in the scheme with Claire has changed him. He wants to do thngs the way she dreams. He wants to change for her. He wants to become what she would want. Years later Claire is back and he wants her more than ever only she doesn’t like him actually she despises him it seems. And when she is back they are competing for the same account and this is where the fun begins. It is so entertaining to see them compete against each other especially since he is smitten with her.
The sexual tension is there and so is the attraction but like no. His company is now extremely successful. He is well liked now by his employees. But still Claire isn’t buying into it. So he is set out to change her mind.
Milo once he changed is awesome. He is fun, sweet, kind, adorable and just amazing. He still is being freaky with his mom but you can see why. She kind of deserves what he does to her his mom. She is overbearing. But he is great. The tables turn and Claire is a wee bit aggravating. she is hard and uncaring. I mean you can understand but give the man a bone.
Claire is great overall. Funny, quirky, smart, loves what she does and has a vision. She is a wee bit anal to me though. I do love how she believes in her team and supports them but also worries about them as well. I love how she tries to resist Milo and keeps him on the leash after everything. I love how Milo gets her back as well. These two are great together and so is their story.
The story is funny and quirky. Sweet and sexy. Entertaining and alluring. You can’t put it down for it is filled with snarky, fun banter and great times. We get tension in so many ways, a guy trying to win over the girl and see him change even though she isn’t around anymore in the hopes that one day she may be. He changes for the better and you fall in love with him. A great story of changing and finding love. OF second chances and forgiveness. A truly wonderfully entertaining tale that has you smile from beginning to end.
I absolutely loved this book! Claire and Miller were hot! In the beginning I was so mad at Miller but he proved himself and I’m so glad Claire has a solid backbone and doesn’t take crap from anyone. Claudia Burgoa is a really great writer and the story flowed so well. Loved it from the first chapter and it ended with a really great HEA! I didn’t want it to end!
Miller and Claire run into each other at the airport. Miller’s fake girlfriend for his sister’s wedding has cancelled when he spots his star employee. After negotiations for an all expense paid vacation Claire agrees to play the part. Can one hot weekend ever be more than a fling?
I read the original novella in the Spring Fling anthology and love that we get a deeper story with Something Like Hate. This book made me laugh and want to strangle Miller all at the same time. This was a fun, easy read. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
This started with Miller needing a fake girlfriend for his sister’s wedding. At the last minute he was lucky enough to talk Claire, who works at his ad agency, into going along with his planned deception. The two start connecting so deeply with each other and find themselves falling in love. Then, Miller gets a call from his partner in Denver saying that poop is hitting the fan and they are in jeopardy of losing a client because Claire never sent the files that she was supposed to. Miller runs home immediately leaving Claire thinking that he doesn’t care for her. She returns home to find her well deserved promotion given to a weasel who secretly sabotaged her. Instead of believing her, Miller believes the weasel. That’s the last straw for her. She quits and moves to NYC. Fast forward to a couple of years later. She moves back to Denver for her new company. Miller begins his quest to make Claire see the new man he is today because of her. She’s not going for it because she is still so hurt and pissed off at him. I can understand that she was so pissed off, but at times I feel like she just carried it a bit far. The man pretty much did everything but give her a kidney, and he would have done that as well. I really did love their whole journey. It was full of plenty of heat, humor, and a bit of heartache.
Something Like Hate by Claudia Burgoa is an enemies to lovers romance that I LOVED!!! I love that genre and Claudia pulled all the punches and gave us this sparking gem!
I couldn’t get enough of Claire and Miller. These two started off well on not on the best of terms, but ended up going to a tropical paradise together. Their attraction and chemistry are off the charts! Definitely sizzling! And I absolutely couldn’t get enough of their quick witted bantering. I highly recommend it!
There were so many things that I loved about this story! My favorite thing was the chemistry and quick-witted banter between Miller and Claire. I found myself with an almost constant grin on my face as I was reading, and even chuckled out loud a few times. Claire’s vengeful visions of Miller’s demise were just as amusing and honestly, something that I could totally relate to
I also really loved their families, especially Claire’s brother Thomas! He made we wish that I had a big brother of my own, one who would always have my back and who would be willing to beat the crap out of anyone who hurt me. I would love to see Thomas get a story of his own.
This was my first read from Claudia Burgoa and I truly enjoyed it. I like her writing style and loved the characters that she introduced me to. I am looking forward to reading more of her stories
Highly recommended!
Enemies to lovers and fake girlfriend combine to tell the story of Miller and Claire. Miller is one of Claire’s bosses and not a very good one at that. She knows she can do better and the work environment is not the best, but she also knows that she can do her finest work and showcase her talents with this company. She’s not content to be there, however, and needs a change, if only for awhile. She plans a getaway to the Bahamas with her best friends and is looking forward to leaving reality for paradise. On the same flight, Miller is traveling to his sister’s wedding, but isn’t looking forward to it at all. His ever-interfering mother is going to ask him about his dating situation and work diligently to find him a woman. He intends to take care of that problem by hiring a fake date to attend with him, but that falls apart at the last minute. When he sees Claire on the plane, he thinks his problem is solved, but Claire doesn’t make it easy for him. Once they start to act like a couple, they become a couple and decide to date. But all isn’t well back home, Both Claire and Miller, unbeknownst to each other, are trying to lure the same client and someone interferes in the offie. After recriminations and hateful accusations, Claire and Miller are through. A few years later, they meet again. They still have feelings for one another, but they both have changed and they may have moved past any chance of a reconciliation. I don’t know if I could personally forgive Miller for how childishly he handled things. Can he prove to her that he’s grown up and isn’t the same man who feared his mother? This is a cleverly and well-written story with characters who are flawed and complex and a storyline that is complete!
I loved Miller and Claire!!!! Something Like Hate is a wonderfully written book from Claudia Y. Burgoa, a brilliant author!!!! It was a pleasure to sit and read this book!!!
