Another landslide in the Stay Series!
Jonathan Lake, the sexy widower running for mayor of NYC, leapt of the pages of The Start of Something Good and now he’s running for Governor with his eye on his perfect First Lady! Alyssa and Jonathan were so vulnerable and perfect for each other that I could barely put the book down to go to work.
I adored the chemistry, emotion, and sense of family that have become the hallmarks of this series and absolutely canNOT wait for Chloe and Owen’s story!
This is such a great read. The plot flows perfectly. The writing hooks you from the very beginning. I adore the characters and how they connect with one another. This is not like the other office romances out there it’s got more emotion and depth. This is one book you need to get your hands on.
Something Just like This is a novella in the Stay series by the talented Jennifer Probst. I was excited when I heard Chloe’s dad was getting a story! I was intrigued by him in the series and Jennifer gave me what I didn’t even know I needed! Jonathan is the mayor of New York. He’s widowed and has his eye on the governor seat. He’s also wildly attracted to Alyssa, his assistant. That’s a very bad move in politics. But when he realizes she might have feelings for him as well, he goes all in. He wants a relationship with her. He’s ready and she’s the first woman in years to spark his interest. It’s been years in the making and now’s the time. He just has to convince her to jump with him. Will the spotlight be too much for Alyssa? Can they find happiness in the midst of the political arena? This story is fantastic! It’s short, sweet and hot. But it feels like a full length novel! And we get to see Chloe, Mia, Ethan, Harper, Aiden, Ophelia, Kyle and all the animals! It felt like coming home for family dinner and it really got me excited for Chloe’s story!
The last thing Jonathan Lake needs while trying to go from NYC Mayor to the state’s governor is for the feeling he has tried to hide to come front and center. Alyssa Block has been his assistant for years and he cannot even comprehend trying to win the Mayoral race without her. But when push comes to shove and passion between the two ignites can the race be saved? Or will the addition of a soulmate be just the thing to push his career further? I loved these two from the opening pages and it was great to revisit with characters from previous books. Family and love shine through in every part of the story. Once again, Jennifer Probst does not disappoint.
Jonathan and Alyssa’s story is a lovely addition to the Stay series. The story premise was intriguing and the characters compelling as they navigate through the growing attraction and personal fears a real relationship would no doubt force them to overcome. Jonathan is the politician everyone wants for their city and I loved the return to the Bishop farm with all the animals and characters I’ve grown to love through the series. A terrific and quick read just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday (or any time). I can’t wait for Chloe’s story.
Something Just Like This is Jennifer Probst’s latest book offering. Hei-Hei the crazy chicken is back, and the scene is absolutely hilarious! I loved returning to Bishop farm, where people and animal rescues live together in peace, harmony and fun. Many former characters from the STAY series make an appearance, and I could not be happier to spend some time with them once again in upstate New York. This novella may be enjoyed as a standalone.
Jonathan Lake is the mayor of New York City, and his trusty assistant, Alyssa Block, keeps him on task and well organized. Together, they run the city with the utmost care and benevolence. Johnathan is a widower with an adult daughter. Alyssa prefers to remain in the background, letting her amazing intelligence rule from the sidelines. Overtime, their working relationship has become a bit flirty, and lustful feelings are simmering. Thanksgiving brings them closer together, as they spend the holiday off the grid at Bishop farm. Jonathan wants Alyssa by his side, professionally and personally, as he campaigns for governor. Alyssa wants his campaign to be free of scandal and her reputation to remain intact. Luckily, Jonathan’s good friend and top-notch public relations guru, has it all under control. Love and happiness is the most important thing after all.
Jonathan and Alyssa are a fun couple. Their sexy times are as hot as the issues they have to deal with in the political arena. I can’t wait to read Chloe’s story (Johnathan’s daughter), from 1001 Dark Nights Press.

Something just like this is a novella about Jonathan Lake, mayor of NYC, and Chloe’s father. We met them in Jennifer’s Stay Series. Jonathan Lake is considering running for Governor of New York.
Alyssa Block is the Mayor’s executive assistant and right- hand person, the one who keeps his schedule, his calendar, his life organized, and chaos at a minimum. Well, that was until she admitted her feelings about her boss. Thanksgiving will never be the same for the Lake family. Plus we, get to revisit all the animals from the B&B, Hei-Hei, Captain Hoof, Phoenix. Oh, and all the characters from the Stay Series, what a wonderful way to catch up on all those that we have loved along the way. Jennifer Probst has a way of making her characters stick out, making her readers fall in love with them, and this allows us to catch up with what has been happening in upstate NY. I love this series!
This was one great read. Loved the story line, characters.
They want each other, but they hiding their attraction.
They have to trust each other, that this love is enough to survive everything they against to.
Enjoyed this story a lot.
What an absolute beauty!
This book was so, so good! Not too short, not too long, the perfect fix for everything you need a romance to be: heat all the way, building up with each chapter, wonderful characters so easy to relate to and so hard not to like. And the animals! There is no such thing as a Jennifer Probst book if it doesn’t warm your heart and lightens up your smile and the animals with their antiques always have a part in this.
What I totally adored about this book was the delicacy of the writing and the maturity of the characters. The story unfolds beautifully, gradually, so effortlessly, though there are times your heart aches for Jonathan and Alyssa. There is so much empathy and maturity in the way they handle the way of their hearts, their reputation and their careers, so attentive to each of these aspects and to each other. I am grateful for this advanced copy, more than the story itself, the writing and the way the emotions were portrait and navigated was so inspiring and such overall, this was a pure a touch of beauty!
4.5 Stars!
Jonathan Lake is a widowed single man, with a grown daughter he adores. He’s also considered the most eligible bachelor in New York. He is the mayor of NYC, and a politician the press loves. As a workaholic, it’s been a long time since he was truly interested in a woman, but lately he’d started to think of his assistant as more than just his employee.
Alyssa Block is an organized, brilliant executive assistant and advisor. Jonathan has worked with her for two years, and their relationship has been strictly business with no entanglements. She runs his office, his schedule, and his entire life like a well oiled machine. He found her fierce, intelligent, and endlessly fascinating. She was irreplaceable, and challenged him in every way. They spent hours together and made the perfect team, but somewhere along the way, feelings developed. He’d been fighting temptation for too long, and lately felt his last ounce of self control shattering. He decides he will regret it if he doesn’t at least try, and he wants a chance to show her how good they’d be together.
Alyssa loves her job, but lately her attraction to her gorgeous, charming boss feels consuming. They’ve always been careful not to cross that line, and she’s kept her crush a secret. They shared a mutual respect, but lately she craved more. When they take a trip together to a secluded horse farm upstate, she finally surrenders to the connection they share, but the pressure is on when they learn Jonathan is a front runner for governor. With too much to lose, will they risk it all for love, or get caught up in scandal?
Something Just Like This (A Stay Novella) by Jennifer Probst is a 1001 Dark Nights standalone story. It’s a sexy office romance with a second chance at love. I was excited to get a story for Jonathan, and had no clue he was so delicious! I really loved this book. Super steamy, and a wonderful read! I look forward to Chloe and Owen’s story next!
This is my second book in this series and I am loving it! I like how Jennifer brings back the characters from the previous books. This is a beautiful story of two people who try to ignore their feelings for each other but at the end, can’t fight it anymore. Alyssa is serious, efficient, organized and smart. She keeps Jonathan life well organized, as well as makes him laugh, when she comes out with facts when you least expect it. I enjoy reading Jennifer’s books because she makes me feel like I’m right there feeling what the characters are feeling. Great work, Jennifer! Can’t wait for the next installment to this series. I voluntary reviewed an advanced reader’s copy.
Something Just Like This is a delightful and sexy office romance. Jonathan is the mayor of New York City and maybe the next governor. He’s handsome, sexy, charming, ethical, and dedicated. He’s devoted his life to being a great father to his now adult daughter and public service. Alyssa is the ever-efficient and uber competent assistant who keeps Jonathan’s world running like a well-oiled machine. She’s smart, confident, nerdy, and gives as good as she gets. While both have felt the attraction, they are unsure about pursuing anything. They are really well matched and complement each other. With banter, anticipation, family, friendship, and conflict, Jennifer Probst delivers a story you won’t want to put down.
I just love this series by Jennifer, and I loved being back on the Bishop ranch with all the gang! 5 stars for this one, grab it asap!
Mayor Jonathan Lake decides to run for Governor of NY, and he needs his assistant Alyssa right by his side through it. Only problem is, he’s having feelings, more than assistant/boss feelings. Does she feel the same? Can he risk their friendship and work relationship and take a chance at love once again? You need to read and find out! And yes Hei Hei makes his appearance in this one as well!
This series has been on my radar for a while and altho my initial intent was to binge read it for this release, that was a bit of a stretch for me lol However, I have started the series so there’s that LOL But I digress. I say this to you, so you know that if you’re like me, and have not read this series yet, there’s nothing wrong with picking up this story and reading it now. I was fine with it and I’m picky as hell!
Sweet and engaging and full of heart. I loved the glimpse into the characters I haven’t read yet. I really like Jennifer’s style of storytelling. It’s emotional without being gut-wrenching and always full of heart!
Now, I’m not sure why I didn’t realize this book was part of the Stay series, could have been the whole lack of sleep and on a plane thing, but when Hei Hei and Captain Hoof made their appearance, all gloves were off with laughing hysterically in mid flight above the USA! I adore this author and this series. Loved Jonathan and Alyssa in this book, they came together rather quickly, but it just worked. Loved their chemistry, hate politics and the press, but Mia took care of that one, and Whitney was a big ol’ B. The gang is all there once they get to the Farm for Thanksgiving, but that’s where the fun really starts! Loved that I was able to connect with Alyssa and her books. When she said that if she truly loves a book, they she always purchases the paperback for her personal library, my mouth dropped when I read that, I totally do that! Overall a great book to add to the series. Well written, quick read, ready for the next one!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book
This is another great addition to this series. I enjoyed seeing this character find his happily ever after.
I definitely recommend this book, this author and this series.
I love, love, love the Stay series, and this novella is a stellar (5-star, to be exact) addition. I fell in love with Jonathan Lake when he was introduced early in the Stay series, but in Something Just Like This, we go behind the scenes and meet the man behind the public persona of widowed mayor, darling of the press, to see the real man, moving through his grief at the loss of his wife and finding someone to love- Alyssa Block, his irreplaceable assistant and friend.
The struggle as Jonathan and Alyssa open up to each other and try to find their way through the lens of public image, public and petty personal politics and opinions, as well as their own fears to see if they are willing to make happiness their own will keep you involved until the final sentence of the last page.
This novella is a beautiful addition to the rich tapestry of the Stay series, and while I think it can be read as a stand-alone, it is vastly richer when enjoyed as part of the entire series.
I received an ARC in return for my honest review.

Loved every page of this book! Jonathan and Alyssa’s journey wasn’t an easy one and I loved how their relationship developed over time. I really enjoyed getting to re visit Mia and how can we foeget about Hei Hei! As always another great book from this amazing author!
I loved this novella & the characters. Jonathon has been a mayor in New York for a few years now & Alyssa has been his assistant. Jonathon & Alyssa’s relationship has always been professional even though both were attracted to each other for some time but never acted on it. Alyssa has always done her best to stay out of the spotlight, she prefers to be on her own instead of surrounded by people. I loved how Jonathon takes his responsibilities to his citizens seriously. I also enjoyed how both Jonathon & Alyssa had to lower their guards to get to their HEA.
Can a public figure find love again in the public eye? Jonathan Lake lost his wife 5yrs ago. His relationship with his daughter is back on track and moving forward. Jonnathan is also the Mayor of NYC and is planning to run for Governor of New York State. Alyssa Block has been the assistant to the Mayor of NYC for the last 2 years. During this time, Alyssa has been slowly falling in love with Jonathan. Will her fear of being in the public eye if she were to become involved with Jonathan? The chemistry between Alyssa and Jonathan is through the roof. Our hero and heroine are work colleagues, friends, and very much want more from each other. Alyssa ends up spending Thanksgiving with Jonathan and his daughter, Chloe at The Robin’s Nest B&B. We get to visit with the Bishop Family and their band of quirky and hilarious group of pets. Hei Hei and Captain Hoof make a quick visit, so fun. I found myself hoping that Alyssa would find her inner strength to take her place in Jonathan’s life. Will she do it? If you enjoy families who love deeply and laugh often then you will enjoy Something Just Like This by Jennifer Probst. The characters are real, family oriented, and most of all strengths of character. This is my first book to officially review but not read. I have read several books by Jennifer Probst and have enjoyed them all. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I can easily give this book 5 stars.******
