Opening a Jennifer Probst read is like getting a glimpse into her heart. The ricochet effect will have you feeling the love almost as quickly as it takes to turn the page. Something Just Like This is no exception. Despite the characters being more mature, the emotions are just as valid. Jonathan finds himself at a crossroads between career and love. Will he take the risk of exposing his heart or dedicate his life to following his dream? For Alyssa and Jonathan love is a temptation that refuses to be denied. It will take a ton of sacrifice and maybe more than a little faith to make their relationship work. More sweet than sexy, but isn’t that what the heart is all about.
Jonathan and Alyssa’s feelings stemmed from friendship, trust and realizing that they couldn’t live without each other. They finish each other’s sentences and she organizes his world while Jonathan yearns to be part of hers. He desperately wanted to know more about her. Alyssa seems calm and rarely gets flustered except when she is with Jonathan late at night, going over his schedule. Jonathan loves the way she smells and when he closes his eyes, he envisions them together. Jonathan was finding it hard to control his emotions around her and he didn’t know if Alyssa felt the same way about him. But she did, and they were both afraid of crossing the line from business into pleasure. Jonathan didn’t want to scare Alyssa with his declaration of love, and push her away. Alyssa would never jeopardize her job or Jonathan’s career and she was afraid if she did, she would have to quit.
Jonathan and Alyssa were a team in politics, life and in love. He was mesmerized by Alyssa’s beauty and her mind. Nothing or no one could possibly stop their love from blossoming and becoming real. I smiled throughout the entire book as their passionate feelings grew stronger and stronger, as if they were adrift in a magical world of love. I could only sigh when they finally professed their love for one another. Everything about their story was utterly romantic, enchanting and hopeful. Jonathan never thought he would find true love again, and Alyssa made him happy, challenged him and was his perfect match. Alyssa was always afraid to admit her feelings but once she did, she realized that Jonathan was her soulmate and held the key to her heart.
I can’t get enough of this series. A reunion of family and friends.
Something Just Like This is a novella but packs it all in, has all the feels – laughter, love, turmoil – Jennifer Probst writes descriptively and sensually.
Alyssa Block is focused, smart, behind the scenes, no nonsense assistant to widowed public figure NYC mayor Jonathan Lake for 2 years. Alyssa keeps The Mayor on track and every minute is accounted for.
Jonathan has been widowed for 5 years and is seeking a run for NY governor.
Hidden glances with interesting fact tidbits from Dr.Seuss and Plato makes for a charged, challenging environment. As realizations emerge challenges arise – ones worthiness and the public eye.
Being on display is daunting but the rewards might make it worthy as choices are to be made.
I love all of Jennifer’s books, but this book is so good. I love a vulnerable and sexy hero, and match him with a strong, smart
M and independent woman and it grabs me.
Jonathan Lake was a favorite of mine from the beginning in Mia’s story, his widowed status, active politician, dealing with a good but troubled daughter just made him so relatable. A dysfunctional hero who finds his weakness and overcomes it and in the process wins the election and his daughter back……what more could you want from a hero.
Alyssa Block has been the perfect assistant since she started working for Jonathan, she’s efficient, smart, organized. Everything Jonathan needs in his professional life to succeed. But the long nights of working with each other and complimenting/balancing out each other’s work lives, slowly leads to admiration, then attracts action, then affection
I loved how this story was spun together, making the hero vulnerable to the woman he has fallen for but leaving it in her hands to move the relationship forward.
As always, there’s a happy ending, there are updates from all of the previous characters in the Bishop family and there is a great epilogue taking you into the future…..
Something Just Like This
Stay # 3
Jennifer Probst
God I hate politics, but I loved this story with everything I had. You know a great book when life gets in the way of finishing it. Jonathan and Alyssa were the perfect non perfect couple, but in close confines their attraction was bound to show eventually. Jonathan is sexy personified, his looks, his speech, hello his job as NYC Mayor, but that name – Jonathan Lake sucked me right in.
Alyssa Block came from a strange background, she is smart, sexy, awkward, has the ability to let out some crazy facts, and so very good at her job… But secretly lusting after her boss wasn’t a plan she intended to pursue, her job is life, so hidden is where her feelings for Jonathan will stay. One thing never changes is loneliness, what would she give to have that lover, that man at her side…. she’s about to find out.
When Jonathan has the opportunity to run for Governor, everything he’s worked for is becoming clear. Getting over the death of his wife five years ago still haunts him, but a certain executive assistant, helps and of course his daughter, Chloe. Working closely to win the Governor job, sees the working relationship blur as Jonathan tells Alyssa he wants her. Jumping off the cliff is scary, but winning the end prize is everything.
With high profile jobs, someone always out to get them, US politics, and their own chemistry it all creates a fabulous book you’ll seriously want to read as soon as it’s released. I only wish that this was a full novel I adored Jonathan, Alyssa and Chloe, but the addition of previous Jennifer Probst characters making an appearance was the proverbial icing on the cake.
Not your normal political romance, thank God, he’s so much more. I can’t wait for Chloe’s Story.
Jennifer Probst has a way of bringing her characters to life. You start reading and get so engrossed, next thing you know the book is over and you want more. This book is exactly like that. You get to the end and it’s like, yes the story is over, but I’m not ready to leave this world. Then you just go back and do a reread.
I loved Jonathan and Alyssa. Their chemistry jumped off the page. I kept waiting on baited breath to see what would happen next.
This is a great story to read by itself or as part of the series. You get to see a glimpse at what happened to other characters in the series, but you don’t have to have read the other books for this one to make sense.
I loved this book and I can’t wait to see more books from this world.
OMG what a great addition to this series! I adore this novella. Jonathan Lake is everything!! I love his character so much and to watch him fall in love again after knowing of the tragedy of losing his wife five years earlier is just so beautiful. He is such a good man and father to his daughter Chloe. As Mayor of New York City, he has done so much good for the city, so much so that he is now slated to run for Governor. His assistant Alyssa is his right hand woman and he doesn’t know what he would do without her. She is sweet and smart and keeps him on track. Only now he is starting to have feelings for her (well he is starting to admit to them anyway) and he doesn’t want to mess things up but he also does not want to deny what he is feeling and risk not being able to be happy in a relationship again. Does she feel the same? She is reserved and rather shy and his life as a public servant is in your face. Can they find a way to face their feelings and make something wonderful happen despite the circumstances? You really need to read it and find out what happens. And as a bonus, there are some scenes with that beloved crazy chicken Hei Hei to add humor to this amazing novella.
I loved everything about this sweet novella. We meet Jonathan Lake, he is the Great Mayor of New York City, he also is an awesome dad, has been widowed for the past five years but what he also has is an absolute attraction to his assistant Alyssa Block.
Alyssa is basically a workaholic, loves her books and her alone time she basically is a nerd but what she can’t seem to help is her feelings for the Mayor.
Once they realize that the feelings for each other are mutual, the question becomes can they be together or risk everything that they both tirelessly have worked for. You will see how they struggle with so many what if’s but what do they do walk away or follow their hearts and take the chance and hopefully find the HEA that they could have with each other.
Never fails to captivate the reader
Jennifer Probst never fails to write a great story! i loved reading Johnathan Lakes story! Hes a NYC mayor who lost his wife 5 years ago and its only him and his daughter Chloe. Hes always submerged in his work and doesnt do the dating thing but has an assistant he finally wants to date! Alyssa is smart witty and thats what he loves about her. The cons of being in the public eye take a toll on both of them as Alyssa decides whether or not to get into a relationship. Definately recommend if you love office romance!
I am so happy that I got to read this book, it’s such a good one!
No feeling is left unfelt in this amazing story. From the suspense of what’s going to happen next to those swoony moments where chemistry, sparks and love pour out of the pages as Jonathan and Alyssa realize the truth about their feelings for each other. As they struggled to figure out what to do with those feelings, deal with his public image, and overcome the reality of public opinion, it becomes evident how much they care for each other and you can’t help but root for them.
So sweet.
What a fantastic addition to the Stay series, absolutely loved this novella. It was the perfect length and was definitely a sweet and sexy book that will leave you feeling warm and tinglyinside. Loved the characters and the fact that we got to revisit with the other characters from the previous books.
There are some authors that you’re just drawn to because of the way they write. Their stories are always upbeat, even when there’s trials and tribulations. You know you’ll get that happily ever after even if you have to go through a little bit of stuff to get there.
I especially enjoy the Stay series because of the great connection in love between the characters. I am always waiting with anticipation for the next story.
This novella is a beautiful addition to the series. It’s long enough that we get to know the characters. It’s long enough to add a bit of drama and to engage in that beautifully fierce family connection. It’s also long enough to come out on the happy side with the love we want to see, along with all of the feels.
Jennifer Propst has a beautiful knack of writing compelling stories that are rich with steamy emotion and dripping with heart. It’s no wonder that she has me addicted to her books. I can never get enough.
If you haven’t read the Stay series, what are you waiting for?

Jonathan and Alyssa were beautiful characters. It was great to see Jonathan’s story from his eyes after we met him earlier in the series. He is such a great guy who wants to love again but will his new attraction return his interest?
Alyssa is no-nonsense and the perfect assistant to the mayor-running-for-governor. She’s slowly coming to terms with being attracted to her boss but doesn’t know where it came from! How will she handle it when Jonathan makes his move? And perhaps more importantly, can they handle the world knowing? After all, nothing is private in the life of a public figure.
This was a great novella for the series, and we did get to see the previous characters and I always love the little updates into their lives. This is a great story and you don’t need to have read the others for this to work.
Current beloved NYC mayor Jonathan Lake and his exceptional assistant Alyssa Block are a force to be reckoned with, handling the mayoral responsibilities like a well-oiled machine. On the recommendation of the current governor, who has decided not to seek another term, Jonathan has agreed to run for that office. There’s only one problem – he can’t get his mind off his uber efficient assistant.
So begins the journey of the heart for these two people who on the surface may seem mismatched, the proverbial odd couple. Jonathan, widowed for five years is the darling and beloved eligible bachelor who dwells in the public eye while straight-laced Alyssa seeks to be behind the scenes. Her unwavering support and loyalty, uncanny ability to read and handle situations and advise Jonathan on a myriad issues makes her invaluable to him.
As Jonathan fights his attraction to her and the heat that consumes him, he mentally battles himself trying to ascertain whether there’s a chance Alyssa harbors any feelings of her own. She has no idea how her “librarian” image and cool demeanor drives him crazy.
Alyssa is fighting her own attraction and would never do anything to jeopardize his run for office. Jonathan has made a positive impact on NYC and could do great things for the state. She loves her job, excels at it and leads a very solitary life outside of the office. She is very protective of Jonathan and his daughter Chloe, whom she has grown very close to.
Feelings are seldom denied and once these two dynamic people admit them to each other, decisions need to be made. Do they try to have an open relationship while trying to keep ahead of the gossip mongers, attempt to keep it a secret or merely walk away?
There are reasons to choose any one of these options and you can feel the push and pull as they navigate the murky waters of this emotional coaster. The respect they have for each other and willingness to do what they feel is right, putting the others best interest first is both heart warming and frustrating to witness.
Both characters are strong, determined workaholics who have been harboring feelings in private. Everything comes to a head over Thanksgiving holiday in upstate NY at the rescue horse farm with PR superstar Mia and family.
Emotional, sweet and full of heart with likeable characters that you cheer for on their way to their happily ever after! Five stars.
This is the newest addition to this series. We met Chloe, Jonathan’s daughter, in an earlier book. He’s the mayor of New York City and has just been asked to run for governor of New York. He’s a good, caring politician who works constantly trying to help people. Alyssa is his very competent assistant who keeps him on schedule along with other duties. She’s a very smart person but not very outgoing. Finally, they begin to admit their feelings for each other but she doesn’t feel she’s the right match for him. He does think she’s the right one and he hasn’t had any other relationships since his wife passed away five years earlier. They go to the rescue horse farm upstate New York where Chloe did her community service for Thanksgiving. While there, Alyssa begins to realize that she can be the right person for Jonathan. I love this series and can’t wait for the next book which will be Chloe’s story. I was provided an ARC early for my honest review and also have received my own ordered book.
Just was just crazy good and I read it in one sitting or should I say before I could go to sleep and then added this to my dreams! Jonathan and Alyssa were perfect! He is the mayor of NYC and being groomed to run for governor but after just one term he is not sure he is ready. Alyssa is his buttoned-up assistant who is as dry and straight-laced and organized as can be and would never flirt with him which is what he considered to be priority…or did he…After two years together they both are looking at each other differently but trying not to let the other know. Crazy! and what is crazier is a weekend in upper NY could result in scandal if they let their passions loose…or could it. This was just perfect! Definitely just right and I highly recommend. This could be read as a standalone.
I have absolutely loved this series from the start and this one didn’t disappoint. As always from page one I was hooked. I loved the dynamic between Jonathan and Alyssa. This is a friends to lovers romance that sweeps you off your feet. Their chemistry is smokin hot. Love that Jennifer’s books are so family based, it keeps me coming back for more. You will go through all the feels. This is a must read.
I was intrigued by Chloe’s father from the beginning and loved that he finally got his own book. It was great to finally really get to know him, what makes him tick, what drives him and reconnecting with old favorites (Ethan, Mia, Ophelia, Hei-Hei, and all of others we have come to know and love). That Jonathan was hiding his feelings for Alyssa for so long and was so afraid that if she knew she would leave pulled at my heartstrings. Such a great story!!! Would have given it 5 stars if it were longer lol
Alyssa is the assistant to the mayor of New York. They have worked together for almost three years and she runs his life like she runs his office. Jonathan is a widower, a father, and the mayor. His wife passed away five years ago and has been working on his career too busy with his love life. Now they are wanting him to run for governor and he’s about to be thrusted into the spotlight even more. When they confess their feelings, Alyssa is not sure if she wants all the attention of being the mayor’s girlfriend. She’ll have to choose love or being alone.
Great short story with romance and a little sex. The characters from the Stay series make an appearance along with a jealous socialite.
