my favorite read of 2018. actually gave me palpatations while I was reading it. amazing debut novel
Great book, interesting story
Neither a talented or imaginative author. A stupid book about stupid, shallow people. It was hard to find value in these pages.
I really wanted to love this book. The premise was amazing! However, I found myself so annoyed by the main character (was she actually an adult woman?) that I found myself screaming at the book in frustration. I did finish, but nope, I still found her ridiculous.
I think the adjectives above speak for themselves. Pick up a copy at your nearest library, if you’re so inclined!
The first few chapters are slow moving, but please stay with it…you can feel the paranoia and suspense build until you absolutely can not put this book down. A most rewarding and satisfying read…5 Stars**
Something in the Water is far and away my favorite thrilling read of 2018 in the adult category. When Erin, a documentary filmmaker working on a project about three criminals’ release from prison, and her new husband Mark, a recently jobless investment banker, embark on their honeymoon in lush, remote Bora Bora, they find—you guessed it—something in the water that will forever alter their lives, leading the duo down a path of escalating bad decisions and thrilling twists and turns. Steadman’s debut stands out for the exquisite writing, fresh concept, and truly page-turning suspense.
I could not put this book down! It is a thriller which makes you wonder, what do you really know about people in your life. Who can you trust? A couple goes on a honeymoon and “Something in the Water” sends their lives in a whole new twist.
Great opening sentence. Makes you want to find out more. Leads you down a zig zag path. Suspenseful.
This book is about secrets, lies and questionable choices. It features documentary-maker, Erin, and her London banker husband Mark, and a discovery made on their honeymoon in Bora Bora that changes their lives forever. It grabs you from the beginning, has some very unexpected twists and, in a way, it’s sort of like watching a train wreck — you can’t turn away. from the story. The ending is fast-paced, and the premise of this book is quite original, making it a worthwhile read.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own.
The book had my attention right away as the protagonist digs a grave. From there it jumps back in time to the events leading up to that scene, including the couple on their honeymoon in Bora Bora, where what they find in the water will cause them to make the choices that keeps the suspense moving. Nicely narrated, most of the story good, but I expected a better wrap-up at the end.
Loved this book. I couldn’t put it down. The suspense and twists in the story kept me on the edge of my seat. What would you do for love or money? I think the author attempts to answer the question and throw a few hiccups in along the journey. The characters stick with you even after you are finished.
This is a psychological thriller. The characters are newlyweds who find their love, devotion, and honesty tested by a strange set of circumstances.
New author with a great first book!
This book was nothing like what I expected. I thought it would be predictable. I thought it was really good. The story line was different and engaging. It’s a very popular book right now and on a lot of reading lists. I can see why everyone is loving it!
I enjoyed reading this book , it had a few surprises which added to the suspense of the book, particularly the ending.
I really enjoyed this book. It was incredibly interesting and made me wonder what I would I would’ve done in this situation. Couldn’t stop reading, until I found out how it ended! Wow!
Something in the Water is a great thrilling ride! Would you do what Mark and Erin decide to do with all of their found treasure? What could it hurt? All of the owners of the treasure are deceased? Greatly crafted to keep you guessing until the last minute.
I personally did not enjoy this book. The beginning, all the way until the last few chapters, was pretty slow moving. This was not a page turner, so to speak. The characters were not anything out of the ordinary for suspenseful, crime book and the plot/scenes were some what predictable. No big wow factors or moments where you find yourself saying “I didn’t see that coming.” Bummed!
This was a page Turner. Not the type of book I normally read, but I liked it very much.
