When her … a highly inconvenient turn of events. When her longtime sweetheart jilts her at the altar Chloe’s belief in happy-ever-after disappears along with her groom. But this attitude has her business suffering as much as she is. In a final attempt to save ‘Something Borrowed’, Chloe is forced to swallow her pride and work with the enemy- infuriatingly hot, best man, and award-winning chef Vaughn.
Vaughn’s own attitude–he calls it spontaneous, his staff call it temperamental–has him in a spot of trouble. I just adored this story! The characters were so richly portrayed, the story was so alive, and the writing is superb. Loved the range of emotions conveyed, the unique voice of the author, and how much I just couldn’t stop turning the pages. Bought book 2 as soon as I’d turned the last page of this one (although they can stand alone).
I always get a bit irritated by predictability in a story but overall I enjoyed the book.
I really enjoyed the interaction between the sisters and their mother. Reminds us to watch the words that come out of our mouths!
Enjoyable and entertaining story.
Read this one straight through. Couldn’t put it down!
Entertaining and easy romantic read.
Lots of fun to read.
Interesting characters. Fun romance.
I liked the story line and the characters could have happened in real life and I like the family stick together theme.
This is a fantastic story. I loved it! I loved the characters and the story.
Feel good romance.
Chloe’s life is falling apart; jilted on her wedding day, bad press affecting her business and now having to deal with Vaughn Brooks. Vaughn was the bearer of the news that the groom would not be turning up and the man she assaulted and she hates him nearly as much as her ex! A fun story about the ups and downs of love and family, and finding a once in a lifetime love. Highly recommended.
I loved the characters and the UK setting. A lovely story about finding love.
This is an enemies-to-lovers jilted bride story with loveable characters and plenty of laughs. When Cassie is left at the altar, she shoots the messenger by attacking Vaughn Brooks, the best man who came to break the news that the groom had run off with her best friend. Not only does this break her heart and destroy two of her most important relationships, but Cassie’s epic humiliation-fueled tantrum practically destroys her popular wedding planning business. Before her almost-wedding, she’d been turning down jobs but now she hardly has any customers at all.
If it was just her, Cassie would simply get a job and go on with her life but her family’s livelihood depends on the business. Her widowed sister handles the floral arrangements and needs the flexible hours to look after her toddler, while their mother makes a living creating custom bridal gowns and clothes for the wedding parties so Cassie’s in no position to refuse working with Vaughn.
She loathes him almost as much as her cheating ex and the feeling is mutual, but soon the sparks fly. That should be a good thing but there are so many complications, not the least of which is that Cassie no longer believes in love and Vaughn promised his heart to his first love years ago.
I enjoyed Cassie and Vaughn immensely although I felt the ending was a tad rushed. There’s a fun supporting cast and I’m very interested in her sister’s story, but Cassie and Vaughn were certainly the stars of the show. This was a fun read and I highly recommend it.
While somewhat predictable, this book was a fun read with interesting characters.
Liked this book a lot! I loved the main character! Very funny at times!
Great book
Loved this book. great characters, fun, HEA
The main characters deal with personal, painful losses on their way to the happily ever after. They succeed. An engaging, romantic story.
Good story but it wasn’t a clean read as promised.
Something Borrowed, by Louisa George, became available at booksellers in July of 2016. It’s the first book in Ms Georges new Something Borrowed series. The title refers to a wedding planning business. Chloe Cassidy, the owner & chief wedding planner, was unfortunately jilted at the alter. Not a good look for someone in her business. She’s hurt, confused, wondering if it was her fault, and trying to keep the business afloat. We meet her 4 months after The Jilting episode and she’s still a hot mess, wallowing in her grief. She’s a nice enough character but you know from the first page that she needs to get things together before they get worse. Her life is complicated and it’s driving her round the bend.
Vaughn Brooks was the cousin and best man of the Jilter. Turns out he’s still nursing a romantic wound too. Chloe and Vaughn are thrown together by business needs and the attraction is quick and hot. Both are scaredy cats and it takes almost the entire book to get a HEA. They deserve it, both are nice people.
The worst part of the book, and why only 3 stars, are the unnecessary e-mails scattered through the story. They’re from sister Jenna and her soon-to-be beau, Nick. They’re in the next book, a mention of them was enough. Their e-mails invaded the story in a annoying way. I stopped reading them after the first 2. If that’s all I can say negative then the book is certainly worth a read.
